Artosis, HuK (who paid Boxer's deposit for S1), WeMadeFox, etc could all attest to the fact that we have and will pay our deposits back. That's not what I'm asking. I'm asking: do Korean teams simply not have the cash to pay their new security deposits? Because considering the $2000 you're offering for travel costs, it seems like that is the true hang up to their participation. In that case I believe an exception should be made for the Koreans and their security deposits, since they had an exemplary record of playing all games on time in Season 1. No. In that case they should've withdrawn several weeks ago already. There are several NA and EU players who showed up to all their games, what if they want an exception too?
Sure why not? After all, they've earned it for participating fully in the league in Season 1.

Im not tuning into watch Mc vs Catz because I already know what is going to happen. I will tune into watch Nestea vs Mc because it will be top level all around.
Also the finals that made Nasl good was complete bullshit. Watching guys like Ret and Boxer get knocked out of the tournament instantly was terrible. Not to mention they had Dustin Browder balancing the sound.

It's okay. Koreans can still qualify through the super tournament. :O

Ret literally lost in like 10 minutes with no shot at redemption and he was number 1 seed...

No Asian Starcraft League?
I'm glad I decided to purchase a GSL season ticket rather than a NASL season ticket. Don't worry though I'll still tune in to the free stream every night, I actually like Gretorp. Who knows things might actually work out better this way.

Think twice please. Foreigners got SEEDED into Code A.
ALL foreigners (and koreans) that participated in NASL S1 got SEEDED.
And yes, the NASL finals were good. Guess why?

I can also attest to how awesome Mr Chae is and how hard he works for e-sports.
This is SC2CON.

I offered the Korean teams to talk to me personally if the deposits were a problem and we could work something out, but I heard no responses other than the same repeated ultimatum.
Seems like it's a communication problem then. I hope that you continue to try to pursue as many channels as possible to communicate with the teams, because I really hope Korean participation in the league can be salvaged. :/

Could people stop comparing SC2con and Kespa, or saying stuff like "Kespa-esque"? Kespa build the strong corporation-based organization of Broodwar. Broodwar teams wouldn't have this problems because they have contracts, salaries, money for trips, huge sponsors, a clear system for professional licenses, rules. Broodwar has everything SC2 needs in Korea. I wish they had a KEspa instead of an amateurish SC2con.
Viva le Kespa!

i wonder if the korean players actually care at all, or if they're pissed about missing the opportunity.
|
It's decisions like this that are going to make more players like Puma, Hero, and Rain join American teams, I really hope the people at SC2Con and the Korean team managers realize this.
From what i can tell, and what I've heard from the commentators/people involved, the Koreans love the American fans and the atmosphere here in the states.
I expect more Koreans to defect to American teams in the future if more decisions like this keep coming out of Korea.
And the effect on NASL viewership may not be as substantial as 90%, but the fact that it will no longer be a tournament involving the full gamut of the best players in the world will definitely make it take a hit in viewers/subscribers.

This is really bizarre. If their demand was travel expenses and no security deposit, and the $1000 travel expenses + guaranteed $1000 even if they lost in the first round covered travel expenses, the security deposit seems to be the only issue left.
Are we sure there isn't just some kind of misunderstanding or maybe translations giving off the wrong tone?

I am kind of happy honestly, I mean it's the North American Star League. The GSL doesn't let you play online all the way to the grand finals, and then they def don't pay your way to korea. Ridiculous demands, are ridiculous. I applaud the NASL for really trying with the budget thing, but honestly i am kind of happy.
|
Im quite happy that the koreans have pulled out, if they cant afford to send theyre players to a tournments with prize pools that big so be it, some money in foreigner pockets is okay by me, besides, puma hero rain and the FXO guys will probably be up there if they can take the places.
|
i think offering them 2,000 was MORE than fair.. why wouldnt the accept :/ the trip would cost them very little, they have the chance of making more money.. making a name, glory AND making their sponsors happy with hundreds of thousands of views..
|
This is the same exact thing the World Baseball League is having trouble with, they are having trouble getting Japan to participate unless they give them more money.
You know what they say, no money no skill.
NASL needs to give much more money to attract the Koreans.

Yet they still get $1,000 for the one bad series. This has nothing to do with format and everything to do with money. Do you think that they would still be in NASL if players played a minimum of two series instead of one? I certainly dont.

so it's ok for you that #1 seed can get knocked out of the tournament in half an hour, after 2 months hard work getting to that #1 seed, traveling across the ocean to play in the finals?
format is bad, it should be double elimination, and open tourney player shouldn't be seeded as last, because skill-wise he obviously won't be.

I may get chewed out and laughed at for this, but I'm actually indifferent by this. It is the north american star league after all, and personally I would almost like to see it as only north american players, or all foreign players. To be perfectly honest I'm getting kind of sick just watching koreans absolutely destroy foreigners. Its getting to the point in most tournaments where it's not worth my time to watch before the top 8 because It's just blow-outs. Then in the top 8 its just koreans v koreans. I already have the gsl for that.
When koreans started playing in more tournaments such as the nasl, or the exchange with mlg I was pumped. But now its starting to become lame and I kind of want the older more exciting matches back.
