I'm pretty sure this is actually 100% illegal. Did you contact MLG before doing this? Yes, you still get ads on the free stream, but if you restream, MLG is no longer making money from those ads. They make money for their ads based on how many viewers they get, and if 1,000 people are watching via your stream, they only get 1 viewer... And i'm sure you're going to say "Well people who watched my stream probably couldnt watch the MLG stream, so they didn't lose any money" But i'm pretty sure they won't look at it that way. What if a)Someone COULD of watched the MLG stream, but it was just easier to pull it up on justin.tv? b)What if someone thought MLG was corrupt/immoral/whatever for making money off of starcraft 2, and decided to deprive them of that money by watching your stream? In reality, would a lot of people have done that? No probably not. Is there enough for a lawyer to make a case here if they really wanted to? Maybe. You REALLY need to check into this kind of stuff before you stream someone elses content. I hope for your sake MLG doesn't pursue this

MLG probably copyrighted their broadcast If you can show me a link that says it is illegal to re-stream their Free Public Stream. I will take this down right away. I am not looking to do anything illegal just looking to help out the Starcraft 2 & Team Liquid community.

I couldn't find a "legal" page or "terms & conditions" page on the MLG site, but i would contact MLG and ask. It's the right thing to do. More work for you, i know, and that's probably not what you wanted to hear. If they say that restreaming like this is not legal, then they should probably make that more obvious on their future events.

Section 5. Your Conduct (E) The Website contains copyrighted material, trademarks and other proprietary information, including, but not limited to, text, software, photos, video, graphics, music and sound. The entire contents of the Website are copyrighted as a collective work under the United States copyright laws. MLG owns a copyright in the selection, coordination, arrangement and enhancement of such content, as well as in the content original to it. You may not modify, publish, transmit, participate in the transfer or sale, create derivative works, or in any way exploit, any of the content, in whole or in part. Except as otherwise expressly permitted under copyright law, no copying, redistribution, retransmission, publication or commercial or non-commercial exploitation of material on the Website will be permitted without the express permission of MLG and the copyright owner. In the event of any permitted copying, redistribution or publication of copyrighted material, no changes in or deletion of author attribution, trademark legend or copyright notice shall be made. You acknowledge that you do not acquire any ownership rights by accessing or otherwise using copyrighted material. Emphasis is mine. In short, re-transmitting is a violation of copyright law. It doesn't matter that it's their free stream, or that you aren't making money from it. Not that what you are doing is some morally evil thing, but it's good to understand how copyright law in the US actually works and there is no doubt that re-transmitting recordings from the free stream violates MLG's copyrights on that material, and it does also potentially cost them some amount of lost ad revenue as well, which is enough of a reason not to do it, imo.
