365 days ago it was the 27th of July 2010... what happened that day you may ask? Starcraft 2 was officially released!
A year of great things. Did anybody think SC2 would be as succesful as it currently is 365 days ago? Did anyone see the skill level rise as much as it has? Hopefully, next year we will be looking at 2011 and looking how bad it actually was!
Nice to see happy birthday on the front of tl on my birthday Starcraft was the best birthday gift (me to me) ever...
I think it's been a good year, with more evolution than I anticipated. I did not expect to stay hooked so severely for this long, I was just hoping to get a decent couple of months worth of entertainment... Guess I was wrong

Also, very lucky birthday because you will never forget the anniversary. Happy B-Day to you as well!
Man, to think... just a year ago, there was no NesTea or oGsMC, Fruitdealer never had his miracle run through the GSL, Jinro never showed the Koreans that foreigners can beat them, HuK never mothership rushed at MLG, MMA never had the two clutchest GSTL wins ever, qxc never all-killed IM, and IdrA... well, IdrA was still IdrA, I guess.

IdrA never left a game that could only be trumped by Elky's fuck up? :D
Wow, that gave me serious nerd chills. I'm so happy that I had watched all of those highlighted videos before. Here's to another great year, liquidians! For Starcraft, for E-Sports! :D
Happy Birthday~~~!(To SC2 And anyone who's birthday it is)
I remember those long nights that I didn't have beta to play, counting down the days before SC2 release.
I also remember how I got pissed off that my DL was going so slowly that I went to the Gamestop Party to buy a copy of SC2:CE just because online DLing was so slow that night.... Not one second of buyers remorse
I picked up my pre_order a year ago, including a Kerrigan T-shirt, clocked SP during the first 24 hours with the shirt on, of course. I gave up multiplayers 6 months ago as practice time was a luxury for me, but still have been following the ever growing esport scene.
Happy birth day Starcraft II !!!
btw, I bought a birthday cake for SCII and my housemates laughed their asses off as they thought it was nerdy -_-;.
Happy Birthday Indeed. Love it so much <3. Thanks Blizz, and all pro gamers for making SC2 fun to watch. Also thank You TL, and all of You posting on this forum for Your contribution to e-sports. Starcraft fan & spectator since 1998.
This is so great. The last year has been one of the greatest - I'm a papa and the game I was waiting for for so many years (I had no idea there was a BW scene :-( ) turned out to be awesome! Now my daughter is walking and high-level play is becoming a reality. Here's to my little one getting out of diapers and the arrival of the first SC2 Bonjwa!
A year before, I remembered I was replaying the Starcraft 2 trailer - Ghost of the Past before I made my purchase. Reckoned the great times of imagining how great the game will be.
Could someone with access to the TL event tracker make a SUM() of the cashprize from all events this year on SC2, I bet it's in the range of 2 or 3 million dollars.
When my brother called me and told me he bought the game (I was away from home), I told him he was an idiot and that the game was going to suck, and he should have just bought me more playtime for WoW. Now, however, I love the game, and it's a huge part of my life. I never thought I could get this into a video game, but once I saw pro casts and how dynamic the game actually is, I fell in love.
Happy birthday StarCraft 2, and here's to another 10.

Happy Birthday SC2! <3 you oh so much :D 365 days ago I didn't even know if it would be worth buying you, but now, my day is not complete without you. Hahahahha!
To the guy asking, in the blizzards blog post they said nearly $2,000,000 of prize money has been awarded to players over various tournaments thus far!
Happy Birthday, SC2! That was such an awesome night. Watching Day[9]'s countdown until it was finally time to run to GameStop to pick up my copy. Then I played for the next 7 hours straight. lol
On July 27, 2010 we launched StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty. We sent Blizzard developers to major launch events in locations spanning the globe including London, Berlin, Paris, Stockholm, Moscow, Fountain Valley (near Blizzard HQ), Singapore, Taipei, Mexico, Brazil and Australia. We were grateful for a chance to celebrate the launch with gamers all over the world, but we weren’t out of the woods yet. We watched and worried for the next few days. Was the game good enough to be worthy of the StarCraft name? Would the players like it?
Within the first 48 hours, the game sold over 1.5 million copies, making it the fastest-selling strategy game of all time. Within a week, we finally breathed a sigh of relief, believing that maybe we had created a game that could stand on its own, a game strong enough to carry the StarCraft legacy onward for years to come.
Even after the launch we had no idea what would happen. Would the balance hold up to the demands of the eSports community? Would the professional players want to play? With the first season of GomTVs Global StarCraft II League and the addition of StarCraft II to Major League Gaming, those fears were put to rest. From legendary Brood War heroes to relative newcomers, these players displayed incredible skills in head-to-head competition. Since then, more tournaments have sprung up to make StarCraft II a truly global phenomenon, including hundreds of local and regional tournaments, as well as the North American Star League, IEM, Dreamhack, and TSL tournament series, and to date nearly $2,000,000 has been awarded to these truly exceptional players.
These tournaments have left us with electrifying memories: FruitDealer’s triumph in GSL season one. HuK’s epic victory at DreamHack Summer. NaNiWa’s legendary streak at MLG Dallas. MarineKing showing us what it takes to dodge banelings. NesTea teaching us how to crack a protoss wall-in. We’ve witnessed many great moments in StarCraft II competition in such a short time, and we’re barely scratching the surface. The amazing games and incredible plays we have seen in this first year are too numerous to list and have left us eager to see what happens next.
Of course, eSports is only part of the picture. The StarCraft story continued to unfold as players fought desperate battles in the Wings of Liberty campaign. We watched as a whole new generation took up the challenge of proving their skills as StarCraft II players. We witnessed millions of ladder matches and team games played on Battle.net over two seasons of ferocious ladder competition, and we’re getting ready for a third. We derive our greatest sense of fulfillment from watching as players around the world enjoy the game.
The mapmaking community did its part too. With tens of thousands of custom maps uploaded to Battle.Net and hundreds of amazing custom games to play, we have all marveled at the technical, artistic, and creative skill of the StarCraft II mod community. Desert Strike, Storm of the Imperial Sanctum, City of Tempest, The Star Strikers, Smashcraft, Star Battle and, of course, Nexus Wars have shown us an entertaining glimpse of what the talented StarCraft II community is capable of creating. We couldn’t resist throwing our hat into the ring and hope that players have enjoyed Aiur Chef, StarJeweled, and Left 2 Die.
StarCraft is more than just StarCraft II, it is a culture that has been with us for over a decade. It’s a game and a world that we are honored to be part of. We’ve been hard at work making sure that the sequel holds up to the high standard of excellence we’ve set for ourselves. We released 14 patches since the game’s launch, including many small balance adjustments and a ton of improvements too. We’ve added brand-new Battle.net features like the Master and Grandmaster Leagues, custom game improvements, chat channels and more, and we remain hard at work on further improvements.
We’re not even close to resting on our laurels and we remain just as fiercely dedicated to StarCraft II today as we were the day it launched. Today we have a Blizzard DoTA playtest. Tomorrow we are going to play the first part of the Heart of the Swarm campaign (complete with cutscenes!). We continue to work on expanding multiplayer and improving Battle.Net. We can’t wait for BlizzCon this year: not only will we get to meet with players from all over the world and make some exciting announcements, but we’ll also get a chance to watch some of StarCraft II’s best players go head to head live in both the Global Battle.net Invitational and the GSL Finals.
So, we wish you a happy birthday, StarCraft II. You had an amazing first year, and we’ll do our best to make sure that you’ll have many more great years to come.

I remember that day so well. It was a terrible day for me. I was stuck at work in horrible meetings for soo long and had come down with an illness. But in the end I finally managed to get to the store and pick up the game. So a terrible day ended gloriously.
Happy birthday, StarCraft 2. You've impacted me and my life more than I'd ever expect, even though I've known you for much shorter time. I met some really awesome people because of you, they know who they are and had some awesome moments throughout the time with you.
I hope the community will grow even further in the upcoming year. Muuuch love, SC2 <3
Happy birthday SC2. I remember the first time I played Starcraft 2. I just had surgery on my ass, and I was in my hospital room. I got my mom to bring my laptop, and due to the medicine fucking up my sleep schedule, it was like 2 in the morning playing the campaign.
365 days and starcraft went from being that game I sometimes heard of over that new game mlg picked up to my favorite game that I spent a shit lot of time on. Happy Bday SC2, I hope the 2nd year will be even sicker, Anaheim this weekend and the GSl finals sure is a great way to kick the 2nd year of.

Happy Birthday, Can't believe it's been an entire year. Some great memories, some sad ones, And a lot of frustrating agonizing painful memories. Lets hope for 10 + more
happy birthday sc2! unfortunately i missed ur birth becuase i was in the field and i am once again in the field for your 1st birthday! ahhh hopefully i will be able to play you on your second birthday cause i miss you so
Over the course of a year, the total prizepool of all the major recurring tournaments (GSL, GSTL, MLG, DreamHack, IEM, and IPL) has totaled around $1,646,508. I think this is pretty cool, especially since these tournaments keep going, and the prize pools are only going to keep growing ^_^
It's hard to bring up everything that has happened for Starcraft 2 in terms of community and competition. Hope the next year brings more of such developments.
