EG is my favorite team, so in one sense I am really happy about this. However, something about a Korean player being basically being bought out by a foreign team is unsettling to me. Of course this is bound to happen when any competitive sport gets big, like someone else said, it's the "yankees effect", and that's fine. But I don't think I like it because I don't think the foreign scene is necessarily ready to have the Koreans come live over here and compete amongst us.
I know that sounds bad, and I have nothing against Koreans! Trust me lol. It's just that PuMa is setting a precedent for other Koreans to come over to foreign teams and make more money, and if more Korean players start coming over then next thing you know they are dominating the foreign scene AND the Korean scene, taking all of the money from foreign players, and effectively making it harder to support yourself as a pro gamer in the west. So I guess what I am saying is that I feel like this might discourage some foreign players from pursuing a career in SC2, which is not good for the foreign scene overall.
I don't know if this is how it will work out or not, but I think it is a possibility. Hopefully I am wrong and there is room for both foreign and Korean players in the west, and I really hope that this will encourage foreign players to dig in and practice harder and match the Korean players. In the end, I do want an integrated scene where the best of the best are competing, both Korean and foreign. I just worry that a Korean invasion of foreign teams and tournaments could prevent that ultimate goal from happening by stifling the foreign scene.
Either way... go EG! Although I would like to know more about the process they went through to pick PuMa up... It's hard to decide whether TSL should be legitimately mad or if they are just upset because all of their best players have been leaving them

It's also the middle of the night in the United States. I'm sure there'll be a press release tomorrow.

Just another reason for me to dislike EG.
P.S. They did need a terran.

i believe the system hes looking for is called a contract.

Why must everyone betray Coach Lee (((((((((((

I love the high-horse mentality everyone I'm sure exhibits in their day to day lives. This is a business, and in businesses you must compete to win. I don't see why the Korean attitude towards how players should be handled is necessarily the correct one. Sure TSL has invested time and effort into making Puma a skilled player but apparently he didn't feel compensated enough for his efforts. Looks like Korean teams and foreign players are gonna have to step it up. Its not like EG kidnapped Puma until he signed.

Obviously things aren't great at the TSL house. They lose Rain, FD, Trickster, and Puma all in what, like a month?

Too many people are given the illusion that professional players do it strictly for their fans and because they love it. Money talks, kids.

All you have done this whole thread is flame EG and give absolutely no growth to the thread.

Why must people like you have such a biased opinion. To be completely honest I don't know how I feel about it, but you are clearly siding against EG. It was also Puma's choice, and TSL did not accommodate him. You can't just blame EG as if they forced Puma.

That being said, it is absolutely awesome that a player as good as PUMA is joining a foreigner team! Not only EG will benefit from it, but it also opens doors to a more dynamic trade of players between korea and abroad could you explain to me why he is a little bit of a bad person, have you met him personally and he kicked your dog or something?

Looking forward to seeing Demuslim's TvT in 4-5 months as well as idra's ZvT. This is good news, imo. yeah, it was a bit of a dick move from EG but hey - these are things that happen in real sports as well (although no one will let you out of your contract like that). Maybe EG should have paid TSL some cash and make it an official, real transfer? If they are willing to let him go like that, I'm sure they wouldn't have opposed a "real" player transfer like that.

Why do people think Puma will start sucking? There is no confirmation if he is moving to the U.S. or not. If he stays in Korea, he can still have skilled practice partners. If you read interviews from Korean players, they give thanks to players OUTSIDE his team sometimes.
|
I don't blame Puma at all. Did he even receive a reasonable salary on TSL (or any salary at all)? The Korean SC scene was always a terrible deal for the players financially, with only the best of the best getting paid reasonably or at all.
Anyway, JP's line in the last SOTG is coming to mind here with EG being the Yankees of SC2.

Well done EG, foreigners - STEP UP YOU'RE GAME
how do you even know they dont have a binding contract? do you have any idea what you're talking about?

Whatever happened to building teamwork.or wanting to have the highest tier of practice partners? I'll be rooting against him in every tourney he plays in.. Work 12+ hours plus per day, Be among the best in the world at what you do, Get paid next to nothing for it. In what twisted reality does this make sense? I would have done exactly the same as what Puma did. I'm on the fence about whether it was a dick move from EG or not but you can't blame Puma in the slightest.
Who says TSL was paying Puma next to nothing? Just because Artosis said some Korean players don't get paid at all, DOES NOT MEAN TSL DOESN'T PAY THEIR PLAYERS WELL. It's been known forever that TSL was the first team in Korea to give salaries to their players.
This simply seems like EG has more money, gave Puma a bigger contract, Puma forced Lee's hand, and Lee terminated Puma's contract so that he could leave. If this was truly TSL "owning" a player, Lee could have just ignored Puma's wishes and kept him under his current contract.

The "Korean" arms race is on for the foreign teams :
FXO SK Gaming TL ( oh wait, thats HuK, should he count? jk ) now EG...
Can't blame those who choose to go West though, Way more opportunities to make money compared to GSL. And the foreign teams will benefit from their experience in the Korean way of training.
Therefore I expect some more Korean to either switch to a foreign team or see more agreements like the one SK did.

why not at least talk to the coach who put so much effort into training/caring for his players? yeah i guess it wouldn't work out as if he did but pretty much a dick move by EG if this is true.

You never go talk to the management in pro sports you talk to the agent. I was beginning to wonder if agents would ever be involved in e-sports. You people need to stop being butt hurt over something that's not a big deal. If Puma left to join EG it's probably because they're going to accommodate him better than TSL is. Which is what he deserves for being a great player.
So now you guys don't care that it's better for the individuals training if it's worse for a team? lulz. You see, the coach IS the agent.
Does a coach get money for signing the player to another team ? no. The coach is the manager, far different from an agent.
