The unknown Moon "MMA" Sung Won, a 22-year old Korean, shocked the scene when he gave Starcraft2 legends such as the likes of MC and July the coup de grace to win the Most Valued Player Award not once, but twice in the GSTL. He then went on a rampage at MLG Columbus 2011 remaining undefeated in the group stage and dropping only three maps in the entire competition. The world watched in awe as his multi-tasking skills and aggressive play style just confirmed what even legendary Boxer had known when he picked up the young Korean for Team Slayers, that this young boy was destined for success. So much so that Boxer's little protégé has now earned himself the nicknames "Little Emperor" and "Son of Boxer".
However, the Emperor is still watching over him and MMA's respect for the legend that has helped put his career on track is abundantly clear. "Boxer has always helped me to focus on the game; he's there to remind me of my mistakes," said MMA. "He has played more competitive matches than most of the gamers who are currently active so he knows exactly how I feel after I compete. It's probably the biggest help I could ever ask for as a gamer." MMA's runaway success is now letting him step out from beneath the towering shadow of his mentor and there is no better time than the present to learn more about the "The Legend Killer".
It's more like a biography. Thanks for sharing, but I don't think you're allowed to have link-threads, maybe you should write some more, give a small summary.
Doesn't Alicia or another player already have the name legend killer? Also, behind all the hype MMA did not go and crush competition in MLG. He BARELY held on against Sjow.
MMA was training to be an airborne soldier, shifted to actually fighting MMA (guess it should be obvious, but I thought he picked it because it was short and "cool") and has stand-up comedy as a fall back from SC2? Wow, lol.
Just nickname SlayerS Legend Killers rofl they kill everyone :D
The whole army/mma thing is interesting. I wonder if the injury was permanent, or if he feels he's done with the army thing. He passed the basic training so doesn't that mean he served for at least a little bit, even if nothing "major" really happened (war). A bit confused about this part.
He should show us his MMA skills sometime :D that would be epic
haha so Idra IS the ultimate troll, he puts on BM personality but really he's a cool, reserved dude :D

sorry man but he went 18-3 in that tournament, that is crushing anyway you look at it.
Legend killer is not his nickname, it is a title given to someone who was relatively unknown who comes out and beats legendary players. Bisu earned it when he destroyed the great Savior when he was at his finest. there has been more than one "legend killer"
this dude wanted to be in the army and was training to be an MMA fighter?? thats awesome! i always thought he picked MMA coz it was short and sounded cool lol
Artosis starting calling him "legend killer" btw. Besides Jaedong has more intimidating nicknames like "the Tyrant" and he's now a legend anyway. My favorite part of the article was about his work ethic and also that he considers martial arts something he'd never want to use to harm another person.
Since MMA was relieved from the military due to a knee injury, I guess he won't have to go back? It would suck if it's in the middle of pro gaming peak, altho I guess u can put it off pretty long (e.g. Nada, (not evil but genius)).
Hm legend killer, I like how he thinks but hes gonna need a lot of work to make that nickname his own and take it from JD.
Pretty cool that hes actually trained in mma and went to the army before becoming a progamer, as that usually signifies the end of a players career rather than its begining.
He's a mixed martial artist specializing in Brazilian Jiujitsu, completed army training specializing in paratrooper training (which explains his penchant for medivac marine harass), an aspiring comedian (Jessica did mention something about this, but also said that MMA started getting quieter when he had those string of losses), and a chick magnet.
That's a great list.
Anyhows, MMA's chances at winning MLG Anaheim are very slim now with guys like DongRaeGu and Mvp joining through the open bracket tournament, but I still hope he can miraculously pull out a win, get into Code S and avenge his extremely one-sided loss to Polt.
I thought he used MMA because he needed a longer name on bnet? Well, MMA happens to be my favorite sport, and I even train mma when I can, especially jiu jitsu. I love you MMA :D. Pretty annoying that he gets knocked out of code A first round to one of the two finalist and potential winner of the tournament.

lol, very slim?
ok you like Mvp, the guy also arguably in a slump and DRG who plays well in GSTL. But in all seriousness "slim" is a word best describing the NA players chances in MLG, hardly MMA.
its not like you expect him to finish last in his group and the being knocked out immidiately.
i'd say his chances to make it to top 4 and even winning is still high.

*does not notice my sig, nor the fact that I'm in the SlayerSMMA fanclub*
I'm just being realistic here. MMA got kicked out of Code A by Puzzle in his weakest match-up and ended up losing brutally to DongRaeGu in his best match-up. Mvp is currently in a slump, but he retained his Code S position by thoroughly dismantling a beast in sCfOu (while sCfOu will end up having to defend his Code S spot in the up-and-downs) in a match-up that showed why Mvp is the only player that NesTea is scared of facing.
MMA is known for being weak in TvP, and will probably face quite a few Protoss players in Anaheim. He also showed that he's vulnerable to very aggressive mass-marauder play, as shown by Polt. Add that to the fact that it's hard for Terran to defend mass Muta + ling/bling, even moreso from smart players like DRG, and the fact that people that are really good at negating drops can shut out MMA's specialty, and you'll be a very worried MMA fan.
I don't just blindly follow MMA. I study his play-style (being a fellow Terran player) and look at his performances objectively, looking at things he could improve upon, and hope that he himself notices his shortcomings in terms of gameplay and manages to tighten up his weaknesses and comes back to win this MLG.
i remember watching the columbus stream and i noticed mma's keyboard looked like a no name brand's. i think i wouldve recognized a razer / steelseries /logitech product if i saw it
I really love the SlayerS clan, they seem to be a awesome bunch, not to mention BoxeR... that guy is such a hero. Love him, his results are not in games but his legacy and ability to help his fellow gamers... Love him.

Well I can summarise what you are trying to say. However, I don't think it's a slump. It is just people figuring out MMA. MMA is not the best early to mid game. Puzzle, Polt and even DRG has exploited this very fact. Puzzle (well you saw what he did), Polt (yep, early MM timing push, DRG (2 base attack). It doesn't take a genius to figure out, you should not go late game with MMA. MMA is just like another progamer (or maybe slightly weaker) in early and mid game. I hope for his sake he figures out how to defend against early aggression more effectively.

I believe I have not mentioned at all that MMA is in a slump. I just pointed out that he has flaws that have been exposed by Protoss players like HuK and Puzzle, DongRaeGu for Zerg and Polt Bomber and MarineKing for Terran, which brought about his losses (with Polt and MarineKing, MMA was on both times almost successful in his quick ghost early game sniping push, but completely forgot about the fact that he needed engineering bays back at home to prevent banshee counters... Once MMA remembers that, his early ghost rush can counter a LOT of early game to mid game cheese patterns on TvT due to his great unit control, and he could actually use it effectively for other matchups, similar to IMYoDa's cloaked ghost mineral line harass and broodlord counter snipe).
TSLPuMa had MMA as a practice partner recently too iirc. That would be a very valuable learning experience.
How was MMA an unknown? I couldn't have been the only person who thought it was all but fact that MMA was going to play either Losira or MC in the finals and win. Kind of reminds me of when PuMa won NASL and everyone was surprised but anyone who had been following the Korean scene for the past few months knew PuMa was destroying it.
Wonderful player to watch but still a ways to go before he can share a nickname with Lee Jae Dong; look forward to seeing him return to MLG, hopefully with the same vein of form.
Well done to MMA I guess, he most definitely is a very talented and inspiring player. But although he may seem so great, the fact still remains that he got 4-0'd by the absolutely awesome PoltPrime.WE!
