I'm scratching my head on this logic, as there are plenty of sports that pay far more than poker and players don't have to buy in. Golf, Tennis, and then of course the team sports.

But don't forget the amount of people who are in huge debt because of poker... All of their money has to go somewhere.

He was addressing the logic of the statement. The logic was flawed, and he correctly pointed out that flaw. Saying "you'll never make that much from SC because you put your own money at risk in poker" directly implies that the reason you can't make money from SC is because you don't put your own money at risk. That was his logic in its entirety. It is flawed because plenty of people compete in sports, without risking their own money, and make more. Obviously, it isn't viable for all professional SC2 players to make that kind of money because, as you said, it is not established enough yet to draw those audiences and sponsorships, but that's stating the obvious (everyone already knows that). Simply put: Cassel's logic is flawed. There are plenty of reasons SC2 does/may never pay out that much, but betting your own money isn't really a factor worth considering. Yes, it is a reason why poker pays out so much, but plenty (read: nearly all) sports pay out huge amounts to competitors for putting no money in. Sponsorships, yadda yadda.

Hm, if SC2 makes it into the mainstream I can see where you might be right, but when you compare two things similar in popularity (SC2 and poker) there's a clear advantage in the one where you risk your own money. My logic is not flawed, it's a slippery slope argument to mention mainstream sports when SC2 and poker are far from the mainstream.

I don't know where you came up with that opinion, because the majority of poker players are losing players.
