Startale announced July 11th that FruitDealer and Tester have joined the team.
After FruitDealer and Tester left TSL, Startale showed interest in the players and after meeting with the players a few times, they've reached an agreement with TSL and the players and they have joined the team.
StarTale's Manager Won Jong Wook remarked that "I want to first thank FruitDealer and Tester for accepting our suggestion to join the team. They were players that were like brothers to me, and now that they're on the same team, I'm really happy. Because FruitDealer and Tester are both recognized as some of the best players, they will help strengthen our team. I will do my best in the sidelines publicly and privately so that both of the players will be able to show their full potential."

Argh I'm so confused. I thought FD and Tester originally left oGs and joined TSL because they didn't want such strict practice regimens. So why switch from TSL to ST? I can't imagine guys like July and Bomber doing anything other than taking their practice 100% seriously.

Maybe they let players do whatever they want, so some practice while FD drinks and tester slacks around. Sound like their treat,

Quite the pick-up for startale. Poor TSL I guess.
Good news for the players though, seems they will still be competetive.

They got tired of losing and are making a serious attempt to get back up the rankings.

Fallen? I dunno man, at least FD has been placing consistently. By no means one of the best but its not like he dropped to Code C. Same with trickster, I think Only rainbow is the one who had a big drop.

This leaves me with a conflict of interest between Startale and TSL.
My two favorite players on a new team or the team I have grown to love because of my two favorite players...

the next article will be Trickster and Fruitdealer leaves Startales.... I suspect that their goal is not GSL title but to join and quit all the teams.

Yeah i have been watching his stream and he looks quite sharp. Hopefully he can regain some momentum
|
Maybe FD will have a better showing in the GSL. I hope so!
|
Yup, kinda expected this to happen. Weeks ago, there were reports regarding Tester switching to ST, as well as sightings of a "STTrickster". With Trickster and FruitDealer being roommates, I saw this coming a mile away.
Still, good news. Maybe they'll get some of their old flair back?
|
is FD and Tester still serious competitors? I get the feeling that they arent taking it seriously as the rest.
|
July and FD on the same team? Awww yeaaaaa.
|
Its still early days and player transfers are a healthy thing but I think players and teams need to have set times that they can change teams or at least be up for drafting in between seasons. FD and SSKS leaving mid season was pretty bad for gstl and its fans.
|
Muahahah, I picked ST as my Team for Fantasy GSTL.

Startale OP
Congrats to Startale for getting 2 amazing players and congrats to the 2 players for getting an amazing team
|
While I dont think FD & Trickster have a chance of winning a GSL anytime soon people need to keep in mind that they both have been Code S for a very long time. And Code S means top32 Korea. It's just not possible that every team only has top8 Koreans as players. And teams need depth for trainingpartners / team leagues.
So I'd say it's a good decision for StarTale at least.
|

Hopefully July learns ZvZ from FD and FD learns to be awesome again. He's just one of those players you love to see win -_-
|
Both of these players kinda went flip flopping between teams. I feel they both should have stayed with oGs. I think teseter would have been really strengthened both MC and HuK's play with his life-time game experience, and i'm sure the trade would have gone both ways. Fruitdealer though wins the jackpot with July to practice with. I really hope both of these older players come back and compete against the newer kids in the scene. Kind of sad, oGs is really lacking any phenominal zergs (zenio exception) and they would have benefited from keeping fruitdealer.
|
On July 11 2011 10:25 zarepath wrote:Muahahah, I picked ST as my Team for Fantasy GSTL.
TBH unless FD and Trickster suddenly reawaken as really improved players I don't really see them doing anything spectacular for ST, who already has a pretty good lineup.
|
StarTale has such a sick lineup concerning the names, lets hope they can follow it up with some performance.
|
Hmmmmm, this fresh start should be a breathe of fresh air for FD, look forward to seeing him back owning it up. Also he has a better variety of practice partners overall.
|
StarTale has more name power but I still feel TSL has the stronger players overall with potential left untapped. I feel Trickster and FruitDealer has hit their peak. Hopefully they can prove me wrong. The one player on StarTale that still has much room to grow is Bomber from what I've seen.
I think overtime TSL will become stronger than StarTale.
|
Congrats to both StarTale and FruitDealer and Tester! Glad to see those two back on a team (though everyone's known about Tester since the NASL thing), and I hope they regain their old form.
Though I have to say, the first thing I thought was: "Oh wow, awkward much?" Tester took out July, Virus took out FD ... but yessss, July, Bomber, Rainbow, Tester, and FD on the same team!
|
They caught the StarTale Virus. Told you guys.

Really? FD didnt have any rusults since GSL 1. Tester didn't really do anything either. So I think that TSL made PERFECT choices.
PuMa, Clide, Killer and New faces can do a better job. And TSL won't waste $80k a year on these 2 players.

TSL doesn't care anymore. They have there new golden boy puma :D
about the actual news Big move for StarTale. Really strengthens there roster and since FD and Tester have a history with the head coach maybe they will practice more and listen more.
|
Isn't FruitDealer taking time off for the military? I can't imagine he's going to produce much by way of results, but it can't hurt to have him around
|
I wonder how much money they will receive from StarTale since their TSL salary was pretty good during the early SC2 days. StarTale has some sick players now: FD, Tester, July, Bomber, Rainbow, etc.
|
Hopefully they become more focused on practice, they were great players back in the early days of SC2.

that's what i was hoping, and thought it to be very likely since FD and tester have pretty much left and joined teams together xD
now, hopefully maybe they will remember their days of ownage and get super good again xD
|
So will July finally get better at ZvZ?
On topic, I'm looking forward to Tester and FruitDealer making their comeback. I believe Rainbow is leaving for the military in the near future. Hopefully he'll make a comeback as well, after he returns.
|
It's actually weird that they follow each other around so much. Any who congrats to all parties.
|
these 2 have been left behind by the game and I don't see them regaining their former glory, they will probably yoyo between code S and code A. ALso somehow I get the feeling that this wont be the last team switch for Fruitdealer and Trickster lol.
|
Does this article mention if they are going to be living in the team house or still with each other?
I see this as a great move for TSL, though. This allows for their younger players to improve faster and develop leadership within the team. (looking at you PuMa, aLive and Smart! )
|
TSL should be fine. They clearly have some good young players as we all witnessed today

beta monsters might be making a comeback. as is with more varied practice partners i do see them getting better, if they train more.
also, ST.Tester sounds better than ST.Trickster, just sayin.

Startale is a great choice. So far Startale is the most active Korean team in both Korean and Foreign scene.
|
Its okay TSL are just cutting the bad players out of their lineup, they'll soon be a lean mean GSTL stomping machine.
Half assed trolling aside, congrats to ST for picking up two very well respected players.
|
Love the news, though TSL has some good players, ST just has a SICK lineup, Squirtle, July, Bomber, Ace and the others this is going to be an awesome addition.
|
Great pickup by ST. I hope to see them at international events.
|
GOGO ST!
Yay for Fruitdealer! I still love him despite some tumbles ):
|
Good for ST imo, they're pretty strong atm
|
Well, that is cool, although it seems like it took awhile for them to find a new team. I was thinking they had another team in mind when they had left.
|
I don't get why so many people write them off as has beens - if they practice as little as people claim they do, it just shows they are clearly very talented players as they have been in code S forever, even if FD drops out this season. Trickster still sometimes show very impressive games (though it comes with a lot of bad ones as well) here and there, that to me signals inconsistency resulting from the lack of practice. But with the right environment, coaches and teammates, if their fire can be lit once again, I don't see why they can't be at least tier 1.5 players.

Talent alone is useless, they moved out of their team because they didn't want a stricter practice schedule. You just can't be the best, or near the best, at anything if you don't give your fullest. Maybe they care about other things more, which is fine, but with that low motivation I don't see them becoming their team's aces anytime soon.

I've been looking and all I can get is the usual, "Well, they're lazy and don't practice much, therefore they must have left because TSL must have decided to increase the practice hours, and obviously they didn't want to practice that much," but I was under the impression that ST practices more than TSL anyways, so that explanation doesn't make much sense to me. (Phew, that was a long sentence.)

True, but motivation isn't something that can't ever be regained once lost - thats why I think with the right environment, their motivation might return, and so will their abilities.

That is a lot of ifs, especially if we're talking about players who haven't proven to be very reliable (even with a solid guaranteed salary they had in TSL).
I think TSL made a much better move to let them go than ST did to pick them up.

Tbh, I'm not sure if this was good acquisition by ST. FruitDealer and Tester are known to dislike the intense training regimen they were subjected to. Unfortunately, this practice is what is needed to succeed at the highest level. If they have poor attitude, this could affect the morale of the ST team.

Damn was wanting FD to get picked up by a foreigner team. However ST just got that much better!

Fruitdealer and July in the same team ... consider the possibilities ... *head explodes*
I think that both TSL and ST are quite happy now. TSL lost some star power, but proved that even a lesser known player of their team can win the NASL – taking off 4 games of Min Chul. I kept myeelf awake (in Europe) to see Puma win and he did it.
StarTale now got additional experienced players in their roster which can bring a lot to the team but hopefully also get the practice conditions they like.

lol, isn't rainbow the same? He was apart of oGs until he left (along w/ FD and Tester) because he didn't want to practice as much. Now look where he's at...

Gratz to ST, I hope ST can give FD and tester the training conditions they need. I am a little concerned for FD still, it seems he isn't very motivated as of recent. Of course, I've only seen him in Code S and Group selections, so I have to base my impressions off of that. Either way, hoping for FD to make a comeback. Even if he just placed high in another GSL it would be better than how he's doing now.
Sorry TT;;, this isn't the "say your opinion on the current state of FruitDealer's career" thread.

Tbh, with all the young talent in a lot of the new teams, I personally wouldn't consider there to be any real 'big' teams anymore. Notable, maybe, but I think in terms of skill, teams like MVP and Slayers have a lot of potential.

I really hope this move gets Fruitdealer back in shape. He is immortalized in my heart as the first champion, and being able to stay in Code S, considering how strong some Code A and B players are, is still quite a feat.

Yeah but he came up later than Rainbow and he didnt really have any results like Rainbow and then he quickly had military service after that so its all a matter of opinion

For anybody touting that these 2 are still in Code S and are therefor the top 32 in Korea, remember that up until this season, you could go 3:5 overall and still be in Code S. Once you're in Code S, you only have to prep for 2 or 3 matches over an entire month to stay in Code S. The fact that FD has been to u/d matches 3 times is enough to convince me he's just abusing a system that has favored him traditionally. Wouldn't be surprised if he's knocked into Code A this time around though.
This seems like a really poorly thought out decision by ST. They should have used those resources to scout new talent.

FD and July training together. Let the banelings roll fellas.
|
Ha! Now the people who thought they had smooth sailing with them on the anti-team may be in for a treat
Good news for those two, was kinda wondering what their plans were leaving TSL.
|
Yea Fruitdealer hwaiting!!! he will revive soon
|
nice for ST
not too nice for TSL hope they wont do to horrible in GSTL now that some of their best players are gone
|
FRUITDEALER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

At best, they were middle of the pack players for TSL by the time they left. They are still decent pick ups for ST, nice to have them back with Rainbow - but those three still kind of represent the fading era of their respective 3 races.
|
Yeah it was preety obvious that they'd stick together, I posted about Tester joining startale, and I was preety sure then FD would join him.
|
Me like. July + Fruitdealer on the same team, Fruitdealer now on a team I like, and ST gets another toss

Would it hurt to tag a spoiler as a spoiler? I realize im on TL right now and spoilers happen, but in a completely unrelated thread? C'mon, not everyone can follow the big events live, I was just about to watch the NASL finals tonite. Im
EDIT: Oh yah, and congrats to FD, Tester and ST.

TSL players join TSL... Cool!
At least this means we will see Fruitdealer again. It would've made a million zerg players cry if one of their heroes just 'disappeared'. Life in the GSL is hard enough when half the players are terran.

Whut? TSL is not ST.
Among Koreans, FD is like BoxeR now.
Loved by everyone but performs poorly in recent times.
;_;

They will help strengthen the team when they aren't too busy snowboarding.

What is wrong with you? In absolutely no universe is FD is anything like BoxeR.

You have no idea what BoxeR is considered among the Koreans, huh?

He just meant they shared one characteristic.
The "Loved by everyone but performs poorly in recent times." part.
He doesn't mean in terms of accomplishments/stature... (duh)

Well, FD was good in GSL season 1 and Tester was good in beta but since then they didnt accomplish very much. I think they are the two most overrated players (not that they are bad). They are neither youngsters/newcomers with potential nor top of the top players. So i wouldnt be too excited about this transfer if i was a ST fan. But gl to them and ST anyways.

But he's not loved by everybody and he hasn't performed since the new year turned.

if only tester would stop dying to banshee's or cloaked units all the time.
|
Well....hopefully the new team can help the players improve at their own pace.

a great team gets some more great players, and should hopefully get even better in the future glhf to Tester and Fruitdealer

Clearly its a generalization -- FD is well liked by the korean community (generally speaking) for his cinderella story run to the title. And yes you are correct, FD has been underachieving for over 7 months, which is more than just "recently."

Pretty sure I've read a number of times that Tester and FD were more interested in entering non-Korean tournaments, but TSL players don't really do that. Puma is really the exception that proves the rule, I think -- can you name another TSL player sent abroad?
Anyway, I don't think Tester and FD will change at all -- neither is going to win a GSL any time soon. But we will probably see them in more MLGs, Dreamhacks, etc (less competitive events with good prize pools).
|
Sounds nice (: More big names to ST : D
|
I miss the times when these guys were the best their races had to offer.
|
HUGE news. Congrats to both FD and Tester for joining such a wonderful team, and congrats to ST for acquiring two amazing players (: I have yet to lose faith of FD since the early GSLs, and I hope he climbs back to the top!
|
Huge pickup for ST. Looking forward to July and FD sharing ideas with eachother, both such dynamic playstyles.
Crazy!!

TSL Alive he went to NASL?
|
SSKS and FD used to be my favorite players for their races, but seriously? They have disappointed way too much. I can't believe some of you think this is a good thing for StarTale... If anything it's good for TSL since Puma RevivaL and aLive are goin to get more opportunities AND higher salaries. FD and SSKS aren't goin to be leeching like half of TSL's payroll lol. It's kinda bad for RevivaL though since FD and SSKS were rolemodels and supporters of him. If this was just after the BETA, I would say July Rainbow Cool SSKS dreamteam, but this is kinda dumb. TSL fighting!

They will move to a new team within 6 months, don't worry. So, it doesn't matter whether they will be successful or not in ST.

I can only imagine the more experienced players will serve more as player coaches than players, don't expect them to do much in the GSTL for example.
One day, FD, Tester, Rainbow will rise again, sc2 scene isn't stack, heart of the swarm will bring them on the top!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I applaud the players for leaving if they strongly disagreed with the team, but I question ST's decision to sign a has-been and someone who hasn't done anything since the beta, neither of whom want to practice hard.
|
These two guys used to be my favorite Zerg/Toss respectively, so gl to them with their new team. I actually dreamed that Tester would win this season of GSL, so maybe that will come true. Doubtful, imo, but a possibility given that he's still in the running.
|
Tester did make it to Round of 8 this season... maybe even further if he does beat Losira.
That's pretty good.
