my wall has keyboard insertion points. i tend to use my keyboard like a bat. the only good thing about all this expensive computer shit is that it gives you those moments of clarity during fits of extreme rage. but fuck desks and the like.
Holy S***, and I thought I raged hard. I had a couple of broken mice and I think one broken keyboard during the times when I played FPS games, but to break a whole desk... damn xD

I use to smash zee desk when I was a young lad. Yell really loud too... neighbours didn't appreciate it. but I didn't manage to break anything except a mouse and a headset or two...
Thank you good sir for a nice showing.
I guess tomorrow it's time to go shopping for a nice steel desk

Did you hit that with a hammer or hard object you had sitting close? Thats particle board, and its pretty hard to break with your hand unless you're Jackie Chan.

I tend to do 10 push ups and 10 crunches when I get pissed. Which isn't common anymore, since I controlled my rage just a bit. xD

With my forensic skills, based of multiple seasons of Dexter, a blood splatter specialist, and cruising past the television while my mother watches CSI, I have come to this conclusion.
My desk broke when I was in high school while playing Warcraft III, I played as Undead too ironically. Unfortunately I don't have a cool story of ladder rage or Blade Master imbalance, I jerked my knee up while turning around to answer my brother while in a game and it just kind of collapsed.
i see you have a mental problem. You should prob quit the game before you hurt someone If you take such passion towards a (what really is) practise game you should really consider other options/games. Maybe take a voluntary Anger Managment course because if this happened because of a video game you might actually hurt someone one day.
Not trolling, just a man with experiance of rage gamers like you.

Listen to this guy, if you ever play SC2 on top of someone, they could die.
I mostly rage when i lose to broken shit like infestor.. (;p)
I think the most satisfying thing I have done when raging after a loss, was grabbing one of those plastic cups that have water in the side (u put it in the freezer and it all becomes ice) and throwing it against the wall so hard it all shattered and the water / plastic flew everywhere. very satisfying.

I've had that situation (picture) happen.. but it wasnt from rage, it was from a shitty chair that broke and flew me backwards, where my legs smashed thru my keyboard slider... Happened twice actually, til I drilled in an extra 10 screws in the chair.
I should probably just get a new chair =/ one of the times I had my guitar on and it smashed against the wall, no damage thankfully but scary as hell. Oh yeh, also scary as hell flying backwards head first lol (guitar is more important though)

Was it ProTech/Catalyst (NA server) / Untamed (EU server)?
I've raged and slammed my keyboard / mouse before, but never for Starcraft II. It makes too much sense and you know what you did wrong. When in Counter-Strike some faggot peeks where it doesn't even make sense and gets a randy one deag, that's when the rage boils.
Not a result of rage, but I did once put my weight on the keyboard tray while getting up and broke it (god damn thing was so flimsy). The result is not that different from yours. Although mine was entirely unintentional.
I think you got problems mate. What I think you should do is always calm yourself. Think how foolish you would look when you rage over a ladder game.
If you lose, make yourself do 10 push ups and some jumping jacks. Physical activity releases stress mate, and it will help you in long term (You would be a bit more in shape).
I thought I raged pretty hard, although I don't slam anything.
I just shut my eyes and tighten my fist up really hard until I feel like I've calmed down. Anyway, what did you break the desk with? It couldn't have been with your hands..

Oh god you have no idea how close I've come to doing this over the past 2 days. Dropped from plat to silver in the space of 2 days. Playing 8 hours of ladder on tilt per day is not a great idea if youre looking to improve your MMR...
Im not even having that much of an easy time against the goldies/silvers ive been playing.
Just hating life, quitting for a couple of days, hopefully i get my confidence back
Once had a knife at my table and stabbed the wall after thinking about it for a few seconds. Wont ever do that again. I have a punching bag in the other room though, so if it ever happens again I always can go a few rounds with it.
haha yes i did the exact same thing to my desk actually when i lost to iNcontroL with 5k minerals to continue my 0-30 streak against him (now 0-40 lol)
Only reason you would post this would be to brag, like raging this hard should be a badge of honour. I'm sure everyone gets angry from time to time at ladder, personally the most I have done is swear out loud when I'm home alone or perhaps a medium strength desk slam with my fist no where near enough to cause damage. Imagine if you beat someone and they broke their desk, I would find it hilarious.
Think about how lucky you have it having even electricity, clean drinking water, food and a safe place to shelter compared to many out there or really how unlucky some people get either dieing in a car accident or getting diagnosed with a terminal illness when they are you. When you realise just how good you have it you won't let small things like this get to you. The sad thing is most people don't reflect on how fortunate they are. IMO we should make time every day to be thankful for what we do have because often it's only in bad times we realise how much we take things for granted. P.s I'm not even religious...
Usually when I rage I just get mad and run out of my room really fast. Well one day I left my door closed...yeah. Ran into the door pretty hard and now its fucked up =/

We are in a constant battle with our own psychology and in the moment of an emotional event, like Starcraft, all reason is thrown out the door.
I envy someone who is able to go through life appreciating everything they have day in, day out. I think most people inevitably take things for granted though and perpetually desire more.
It looks like it was a long macro game too =O (really close score)
sometimes i get disappointed, like when i lose to stupid things (but happy that i know they are stupid and can fix them easily), but it's hard to get over losing a long macro game, until at least the next day

Do you understand that if you're able to think clearly like that you probably are not raging and already understand how fortunate you are?
I think your solution (thinking about how fortunate we all are) is a long term solution that would probably take a couple weeks, months, or years to work on. The OP clearly wasn't in any control of his mental state at the time of this. Just my 2 cents.
Also, everyone loses it. Just because some people are more fortunate than others doesn't mean that they aren't allowed any times of rage.
I do agree with your post though. I think the difference between the OP's rage and the rage of the poor is that the OP doesn't experience it as often so naturally he goes ballistic, while the less privileged suppress it? IDK, I'm just talking out of my ass.

Wont this make him stronger and able to break stronger desks?
When i rage, I just eat a whole bunch of twinkies. Then i become angry at the fact that I'm eating a lot of twinkies. Following this, I run a few miles to make up for the angry fat I have gained, but then I become angry at how tired I have become. Following this, I take a long nap to calm my anger of being tired. When i wake up, I become angry that I have not been laddering through all the eating, running, and sleeping. Following this, I become less angry becuase of my bonus pool. Then i start raging becuase my first ladder game i play smwatkins AND HE 6 POOLS ME. IT'S A MALICIOUS CYCLE.

PEACE.
Agree, as I said I rage to a small degree I'm sure almost everyone does. Thinking of the big picture is a long term strategy, in the moment I let it put if I feel I need too but never in a destructive way like the OP. In the moment you just gotta hope you got enough self restraint I suppose, but how you deal with the ups and downs of life in general will affect your ability to restrain yourself in the heat of the moment. Sometimes you just gotta step back, if you could never play another game of SC2 would the world end?
Used to rage in WC3 a lot more than i do now in sc2. There was just so much luck involved in that game. Somehow i rarely rage in sc2. Even the worst cheese or most stupid miscontrol doesn't bother me that much. Move on and try to improve.

I haven't laughed this hard in a long time. I have no idea why this was so funny, but it was.
I've spent most of my life competing in sports or games, and was only mad enough to punch the wall once. I'm a pretty angry person in general, but I've never did anything like throw something or break something.
I'd suggest taking up boxing. It probably relieves most of my stress, whether I'm aware of it or not. Just training and hitting the bag, not necessarily fighting, makes me feel much more at ease with life.
It is hard not to get heated during those long intense games where a small error cost you the game. I run Starcraft II at max settings which is a lot of stress on my rig. It sputters sometimes and some of those times are right in the middle of a crucial mouse/keyboard input. Looking back at 10 SCVs that are sitting idle because your game skipped during the last command you gave them can be pretty damn frustrating.
Identifying exactly what is making me mad always works for me. For example, miss-microing a ball of marines into a hoard of banes, or my computer skipping during important moments. In the former case I could only be mad at myself for messing up. In the latter case it is difficult to come up with a reason for being angry because I am intentionally pushing my computer to the limit running at max settings, which is effectively causing the skipping.
If I can't identify a reason at all I know that I'm basically just mad that I lost. What mostly happens is that I can't identify a reason and then I realize that I am really mad about nothing and cool off.
I've never done anything physical out of anger after any game, mostly because I don't want to damage anything I own. If everything in my room was made of balsa wood and was instantly replaceable I would be breaking sh** all day, but it isn't, so I don't. It's good that you have a sense of humor, but I hope you don't think it's cool to rage. It's not cool to have unwarranted rage explosions, it's foolish. Not to sound preachy.
I have a cool little story from yesterday when i laddered.
So i just played a ZvZ and my enemy was going roach/infestor but i didnt scouted the infestation pit so he came to my base i had mass ling+ upgrades and he just raped me with fungals.I ALT+F4'd out of the game because i was so pissed(i was so mad on myself cause i didnt scouted it),first thing i did after the game i grabbed a crown cap, flipped it with my fingers,it bounced on the wall then on top of my monitor and it landed in my coffee cup and when i realised that it landed in my coffee cup i was laughing so hard, started SC2 again and won 3 games in a row. <3 Every Adrenalin was imediatly gone and i was even calmer then "The Dude". :D
Not during ladder but at poker, i smashed the Keyboard and lost several keys (yeah a bit like the german kid lol). I 've never retrieved them all (although my room was pretty small)
I have a cousin that used to get really angry when playing games on his PC. We'd hang out a lot so I witnessed some pretty funny stuff. I remember the day he got his brand new 800 mHz computer (that was top notch back then). He was saying he'd put a coke bottle next to his comp so when he gets angry he hits that instead (he knew he'd get angry before hand which is pretty funny by itself).
I clearly remember the first day the coke bottle got thrown to the other side of the room and the keyboard bashing commencing.
Boy did that computer eat its share of violence. He would do anything you could imagine. Kick the fuck out of the computer so hard that CDs would fall inside the computer box itself. Break keyboards in half, push his screen into the wall with his keyboard. I remember that one time specifically when I was sleeping and his rage woke me up. First thing I saw was him spinning a chair around the room to ultimately launch it at full force in the wall. His desk and wall were just completely fucked.
He did break his desk kinda like the OP one day. What he did was lift his foot over it and just crush it.
Oh yeah, another classic one. He broke a keyboard over his knee, so we had to go buy another one. We did, but it was defective and wouldn't function properly. I remember calling the shop to ask them if we could return it, while in the background he was yelling and hitting the shit out of that keyboard. I can only imagine what that employee was thinking.
I dont understand people who are angry about losing. It's just a game. I also was angry sometimes after losing when i was younger but now i just think "yep, he played better" or "yes, i was so greedy that i didnt think about opponent timing attack". Also when i feel that i become angrier i just go play team play or just exit sc. Dont try to play when u are angry, it's useless...
I have a glass desk from IKEA, quite expensive, and sometimes I have to really strain myself from slamming my fists down when I get bunker rushed at my poor hatchery
I do agree with your post though. I think the difference between the OP's rage and the rage of the poor is that the OP doesn't experience it as often so naturally he goes ballistic, while the less privileged suppress it? IDK, I'm just talking out of my ass.
well i broke a razer copperhead in 7 different pieces when for some reason it stopped working in the middle of a warcraft 3 game, 2 years ago. didnt regret it.
To all the 'anger management pl0x people' in this thread- If you've never thrown a mouse at a wall, you're probably not taking this game as seriously as the people that do.

Or we've just realized that it's not worth the energy to get angry over a loss. And it's definitely not worth the cost of replacing equipment.
This guy clearly understands the stupidity of his own behaviour and even made a thread to give his fellow TL buddies a laugh. He will think twice about it next time cause he had to buy a new desk.
I've smashed my headphones after really bad losing streaks but this guy turned into the Hulk :D
Earlier, during my wc3 carrier, I used empty cd-covers for rage-purposes. The problem is, I sometimes spent hours collecting the last pieces of shards....quite annoying and rage-inducing in itself.
I've started using empty waterbottles some time ago, works ok.

as to my raging: my table is too solid, can't break it. But I do hurt my elbow again and again. I actually had to be careful for a while now so I don't seriously hurt myself while punching the table with my elbow or fist. Each and every game, take a breath, say gg, leave. sometimes it helps + Show Spoiler +
most of the time I rage before I even think of doing anything of the above :D
I used to rage quite a bit but it gets less if i play more. I reinstalled sc2 several times and also wasted some money on keyboards and headsets (no i dont have money to waste but you know it happens anyway sometimes). I feel the most anger if i loose because i didnt scout properly or if i completly mess up my micro in the deciding battle. The more i play the less mistakes i make and thus i dont rage that much anymore. Baneling drops in my mineral lines still make me angry tho because i feel helpless (P) - best way to deal with that is to sing huskys song tho ^^ Btw i play best if i am either very happy and comfortable with myself or if i lost some games and just think screw my rank im gonna loose anyway let me just enjoy the game i dont give a sh*t :D
I rage like fuck, mostly just yelling "what the fuck are you doing you retarded piece of shit, this is piss easy to beat.. HuK wouldn't have lost this game.. stop sucking dick and learn to play" to myself and occasionally bashing my fist on the side of my desk and BMing my opponent to get the frustration out.
On the bright side, that's a pretty sick computer screen.
I do rage on ladder too, and I'm sure that's something that happens to a lot of people, even those that don't play Sc2 competitively. Most of the time the best remedy is just to step away from the game for 20 minutes or so and then come back with a clear mind. Also try to adopt the incontrol line of thinking which is basically "I'm happy to lose because Sc2 is fun and I get to learn from my mistakes".
Day9 gave a pretty good explanation of ladder rage that involved adrenaline creating a chemical imbalance in your body, or something to that nature. The best thing to take away from that is the fact that it's natural, to an extent, to get angry at the game.
I've never gone as far as breaking my desk but I have knocked a key off my keyboard once and broken those 2 little plastic things on the back of a keyboard that elevate it slightly. That was during an 11 game losing streak lol.
I used to rage HARDCORE when I played FPSs, but I have majorly calmed down when I started playing SC2/HoN, and I never rage any more. I am the epitome of calmness. I do, however, bm people that start crap with me. But it definitely isn't a raging bm.....I just like getting the last word in.
I have never broken anything though....that crap is expensive and i am a cheap bastard.
i have hulk slamed my desk a few times, fortunatly it seems to be indestructible, I refuse to do damage to my gear because all of the money that went into it, how ever i did hit the wall with a broom i had lying around. I have punching bags right outside my room cause i live in the basement and i have a little gym area set up but they don't help!!! some how i feel the urge to have to break things to keep the pot from boiling over. sigh
edit: certain days are better then others its only when i got on losing streak T.T
Only time I rage is when I get cheesed, but it's something that I should have scouted. I used to play Day of Defeat at the CAL-I level back in college (so long ago already), and the things that I would scream over vent would probably make CombatEX look like Mr. Rogers. I can't count the number of headphones I went through over a 2-3 year period.
I decided I would bookmark this thread; It is such a rage-quencher. Usually when I rage I just curse really fucking loud. Though I'm too scared to break anything; Das Keyboard here ~_~
There is a pretty calm solution. If your raging after a loss, just play a game your better at, but the possibility of a backfire is still present when rage affects your gameplay too much. If i lose because of some ridiculously stupid nub mistakes and feel the rage inside, i do just play some quakelive. Winning/Raping usually hard counters rage.
Hmm, I definitely know the feeling, only thing I broke was a headset, at least it was a cheap one. But I wasn't only mad from a video game, sports in general and other stuff. People and even my best friends didn't want to get near me because of my rage and just ignored me for a huge period of time ;o And I tried hard to be as calm as possible, had no choice basically, either controlling my anger or being ignored for the rest of my youth age. Worked on that even the most annoying loss cant touch me, every time now some one 6 pools me or something else I just say "gg wp". I like how I changed quite frankly, feels great that I'm not getting pissed off easily.

This. I broke my hand into a wall while raging hard at girl friend (sc2 losses are easy to handle compared to a angry gf) After that i was "omg i'm so stupid. Why punching that wall ? now i have to do surgery and can't use my hand for months, I'll never do that again." Bought a punching bag. Now when I feel like i have to exteriorise some anger, i just punch that shit as hard as i can. Feels good.
once put a dent in my wall because i lost a won game after making several dumb "that one situation that will never come up again" mistakes, you know the ones im talking about. My wall is quite old and water damaged, so the dent was easy to make, but i bust open my knuckle and couldnt play for 2 days lesson learned, i have to calm down and stop being such an idra
I got my hands on one of these, and it's definitely satisfying to bang it sometimes. Sure a few buttons have fallen out, but when you haven't noticed 5+ overlords monitoring your base and three nydus-worms all of a sudden pop out... Well, there's only really one thing you can do.

Ive got that and a blackwidow. The cherry blacks bother when typing for assignments I prefer blue keys. They similarly put up to a lot of smashing as I can attest to.
Holy desk Batman! The last time ALMOST broke something was playing Contra 3(That was one hell of a game) at SNES, but I only throw the controller because I knew SNES controllers is almost unbreakable.
I suffer from great anger when I lose games stupidly. I never break anything, but I direct alot of anger at myself.
I give myself a really hard time and it's actually quite bad and can somtimes get to as bad as crying myself to sleep with fustration at myself cause I spend so much time trying to be decent, yet I have never made it past rank 1 diamond.

Worst thing I've done as far as starcraft goes is break a cup that was sitting beside me. As for xbox, I've thrown controllers at wall, thrown headsets, picked up the xbox and threw it on the ground.
Speaking of the 6gv2, I have that keyboard, it's durability was a selling point .

I find it helps to switch my playlist to chill rap music when I'm losing a lot. Instead of getting angry because I'm so pumped from all the dubstep, I tend to just shrug it off and get a little sad while I listen to some rapper tell me about the shit he went through as a kid.
Note: I do not recommend popular rappers like Lil Wayne, Drake, Eminem and all those guys who may have been legit at some point but are really just sellouts now. Some good real rappers are Blu, Immortal Technique, Lupe Fiasco and Kid Cudi. even Kanye's old album Graduation is really nice.
I didn't break anything but I srsly lost ~15 games in a row because I did the most stupid shit ever because I was so furious at myself xD. Luckily it was a wake-up call and now I just enjoy playing
I put an extremely large fist shaped hole in my wall after losing my first match in 14 games. I was so pumped with adrenaline and then DTs showed up.
I didn't even realize I had punched through the wall until I went to lick the blood off my hand and tasted wall. In my defense, the wall definitely had it coming.
(I since patched over the hole and drew a smiley face in the middle.)
YES you wish you could afford nice things that you don't mind breaking. I don't feel bad for you if you can't. I worked my ass off in school for 13 years and another 5 after that. I take nothing for granted and if breaking nice things makes me happy than that's how I'll always spend my money.

Love my M-50's too.
I've come close to smashing my desk since it's a glass one, but I managed to control the force enough to not cause permanent injury (although I was capable of insane rage when playing FPS on the 360).
The worst thing about dumb losses is when you're like me and play like 2 times a month, and know you have the skills to get promoted. If I'm on a losing streak, I can't just say, "well I'll take a break and win later." If I play like 8 games and lose all of them, that's it for at least 2 weeks. If I get another losing streak the next time, that's a month of losses. I kind of have to win like 80-90% percent of my games, and it just sucks to die to really dumb stuff because one loss usually leads to more.
@OP once, I raged once, threw my mouse at the glass door window next to my desk. And I banged my keyboard up etc, started pushing my monitor.
Then I realised, wtf am I doing? If I keep going like this I'm gonna break something.
I don't play sc2 any more, I still follow it and watch sometimes, but I haven't broken anything, and that's the main point.
You really need to chill, just chill.
I'm not saying quit playing sc2 of course, but maybe you should look real deep in to why you're banging stuff up, and if it is conducive to anything at all... Or maybe try day[9]'s method of just thinking that it's like a chemical, the rage isn't really there, and it's just a chemical imbalance in your head... Or at least look up to the pro gamers, they don't rage, they can't rage, for their professionalism, and what not...
Either way you need to do something, cos if this is how you rage over sc2, wtf Are you gonna do when your wife is cheating on you?

I used to go through cheap headphones on a semi-regular basis, due to rage. And also due to cheap headphones sucking. I realized though, that when I rage I make a clear decision about how mad I am. If I have a pair of $15 headphones, I can get $15 worth of mad pretty easily and decide that a trip to Radio Shack will be good to cool me off some. Eventually though, I got tired of the shitty sound quality and upgraded.
My new $70 headphones have lasted 3 months. I can only hope I never reach $70 mad.
Nice! I once got hella raged at getting ganked in Ultima Online and kicked a hole through my wall. I've smashed my keyboards to the point where some keys fell out but it always worked when I put them back in again. Haven't raged like that for a long time tho... ahh the memories.
I have broken a headset, desk, mouse, and a keyboard while raging from sc2. Doesn't happen as much anymore. However I have also raged at inconsistent wifi and broke a netbook. I have holes in walls from when I rage from Forza Motorspot 2 or NCAA Football. Oddly enough 360 controllers tend to take tons of abuse before breaking. Worst one was when I punched a wall and broke my hand. That was a real life rage though, not a video game.

Dude goes on a huge tilt, and suddenly the game is the only logical thing to blame. Everyone else sucks, only play for points, cheeses are too strong, its only based on luck - certainly seemed to get most cliches in there.

You think before 90 games he would learn how to stop banelings and how to defend 3 rax all ins. It is definitely the game though... Not his incredible progressive skill ability.
When I used to play Halo 2 competitively I broke an Xbox, numerous controllers a couple headsets....and my TV.
My Xbox I picked up and slammed onto the ground. Controllers I slammed into walls (once while playing Madden too.) Headsets I would snap...and my TV I pushed over. Kind of realized what I was doing as it happened and tried to catch it but that didn't work.

The only reason I havent smashed my headphones yet is because they were $250. I have come really, really close though! I'm glad I'm not the only one who rages like all hell when they lose a crazy game :p
I've slammed a fist on my desk but nothing worse than that. I learned many years ago (through throwing controllers) that disrespecting the gaming gear gets you nowhere. at best nothing happens and the anger is still there, at worst you can't avenge what made you angry because your gear is busted!

the things on the keyboard that lifts the top up on my old G15 broke, my last mouse started getting stuck when you clicked the buttons cause of rage and the wall behind my monitor has small holes in them cause in rage i have to punch something and the screen sits there so inviting.
i don't rage often but sometimes after a really long losing streak shit just goes down LOL
Sometimes I wish I wasn't so competitive because I think this game would be so much more fun if I just didn't care if I won or lost. But I absolutely HATE losing so I go on tilt very easily, at least in this game anyway. I was always competitive in sports growing up and now that I don't play sports anymore, this is my only competitive outlet.
Another part of my problem is I used to be a beast at College Hoops 2k5-2k8. I would be top of the ladder on xbox and xbox 360 while not using any exploits to do so (much to the frustration of those that played against me and that did use those exploits).
Now with Starcraft, I'm terrible after putting in probably 3 to 4 times more effort than I did to master college hoops and here, I'm just hoping to be a good, solid player. So yeah, it's frustrating as hell and I rage A LOT when I lose to stupid stuff that I should stop if I were a better player.
I probably broke my hand in October of last year after raging during a ladder session. I hit the computer desk I was using and the desk won. That's what I get for hitting an oak desk. Did I do it again at a later date? Yep, I'm an idiot, what can I say? I also didn't have any health insurance since I had graduated from college so yeah, never got that checked out.
I do appreciate all the photos in this thread though, it makes me feel better that the only thing I've damaged is my hand and not any actual equipment. I don't want to buy new stuff!
hmm, I don't think I've ever raged. Given, I have gotten angry at losing before but usually I can point to something I did wrong. The only time I would get angry now is if I get some lag or get DISC
>Want to switch race >demote myself from plat to bronze on purpose so I dont get destroyed playing a new race >Go on a 50 game winning streak (underestimating if anything) >Play a PvZ against a player that was in silver league >He does the roach ling all in against my fast expand >defend it badly because I was only prepared for a shitty rush like all the other silver/bronze players do >he calls me bad, goes on to say how much I suck >rage because I thought that a silver player had just beaten me then called me bad excessively >alt f4, uninstall game, remove my subscriptions to sc2 channels on youtube, un-favorite teamliquid from my internet >punch my bed frame >hurt hand
this is actually not a smart thing to do. huh. not a tyler fan? but of course i do rage as well, especially when i have the game won than throw it away. but i tend to not smash things.
I do appreciate all the photos in this thread though, it makes me feel better that the only thing I've damaged is my hand and not any actual equipment. I don't want to buy new stuff!
Not sure if serious. Break a keyboard --> buy a new one. Break a hand --> potentially never going to be the same again

I prefer to punch myself in the face when I'm angry. If I do it right it doesn't cost me anything.
Not really a fan of breaking keyboards. It could get expensive.
Some of the pictures in this thread are just surreal. When people talk about raging, I always understand it as a sort of blanket term for being unhappy about losing, not actual... rage.
I consider myself highly competitive, but I very rarely feel anger at all while playing (unless I play tired or drunk or I'm nervous about something else).
Well I ragequit :D Some friends of mine play Fifa on PS3 and some of them had to buy multiple controllers bcs they trashed some by throwing around. Some.

YES you wish you could afford nice things that you don't mind breaking. I don't feel bad for you if you can't. I worked my ass off in school for 13 years and another 5 after that. I take nothing for granted and if breaking nice things makes me happy than that's how I'll always spend my money.
THANKS for all of your grand assumptions about my personality though. I didn't know there were so many psychologists that played SC2!
buy a glass desk I DARE YOU
Yeah. The glass desk. Then post a picture when you smash it in half w/ a hammer.
could you imagine a 2000$ rig and a 500-1000$ monitor and 300$ peripherals on top of a glass desk, and then have a youtube of such an owner yell and throw the tower through the desk, as all the other stuff just crashes to the ground in a shower of glass? talk about epic.
I've broken about three keyboards, two desks and two or three headphones. Every time it's when i play games when also working alot. I guess being tired and stressed out coupled with competitive play just makes me bonkers. Never had a problem during college as it was kinda easy with alot of free time.
Raging is normal, a lot of people do it in competitive stuff like multiplayer games and sports.
I uninstalled sc2 a few times after losing streaks and i often punch myself in the hand, useful because after the rage is out of my body there is no real physical or material damage done.

Good for you? Who cares? Don't post in here, if you don't like the pics?
I've also broken a dozen of tennis racks. It's called "passion".
Edit: For a guy with 7000+ posts, you should know better than to troll a thread.
It's not called passion. There are people who are passionate who don't break things. It's called self-control. Go for a run. Do some pushups. Expend physical energy in a way that doesn't make you look like you're 5. If that is out of your scope of things, try to figure out why you're getting so angry you break thigns over (lol) a game.
Unfortunately or fortunately for me, I have a glass table and even I know it is unwise to let my rage out on a 72"x33" sheet of glass. The wall beside me is not quite so lucky though =). Raged quite hard today after losing twice in a row to early pools due to poor play on my part T.T
How the hell did you...... Did you break it over your knee? Damn, The worst I've done is violently knock my glass of iced tea off my desk and it broke on the floor. Seriously, how in thy HELL did you bend your keyboard into that shape.
my hand still hurts from me trying to put my fist through my monitor as few weeks ago. didn't realize those old flatscreens had that much weight to them compared to today's newer LCD's, not that it would have stopped me if i knew.
for the record...i only rage at myself for the way i play the game, never at someone for beating me.
I made a pretty large dent in my desk and found out it wasn't made of wood. I haven't broken anything since then but damn, certain games just hurt so bad to lose.
I lost a game to DTs that I knew were coming. I was building a turret in my main (warp prism DTs) and I was abit jittery, selected my CC saw I had queued up too many SCVs, I hit ESC 2 times to cancel them, my right hand got ahead of my left and I clicked the turret I was building before finishing the 2nd ESC. The shimmer of DTs entered my base almost immediately after and I had no energy to scan.
Slammed my desk pretty hard in stupid frustration, nothing broke, but still.
I know that stupid feeling where you just want to punch the shit out of anything that you see in sight and break stuff WHEN YOU DONT GET PROMOTED TO MASTERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! God dam im still rank 1 diamond with 1691 pts this season and still i get NO FUCKING PROMOTION?? IM ALREADY PLAYING MASTERS PPL!
anyways i remember there was one time where i broke the wrist wrest for the G110
This is why I always try to keep a plastic water bottle on or by my desk while playing, because when I get this angry I know I can hurl the thing to the floor and the worst case scenario is that the cap will come flying off and I'll have to clean up the puddle left behind.
I'm waiting for the day the water ends up making its way into the tower and shorting something out...
I know I siad earlier that I rage less than I used to, but just today, I ended up raging from a ZvZ match that I broke my mouse.
At least it was one of those cheap mouses, and I had a spare one ready anyways. I would hate to have expensive keyboards and mices because I mean, they're right in front of you. Those two would be the first thing I would hit/throw. xD

Advice: Talk to a counselor or a friend about your anger problems. It actually helps a lot.
He'll be fine, he already mentioned in his OP that the desk wasnt in perfect condition, and replied to many of posts such as yours. Rage is a perfectly natural emotion, experiencing it in controlled eviroments is perfectly healthy.
You arent a starcraft player until youve broken at least a keyboard due to rage. I still find random keys from one I broke during the beta in my bedroom.
Bro, do yourself a favor and quit playing the game if it makes you rage that hard...When I rage I just bitch and QQ about what I think is imbalance and I talk shit to my opponent, but destroying property is not a proper way of dealing with the anger that comes from a loss. Just watch the replay, learn from it and improve.
The most pitiful thing i've seen for a while is the people comming into this thread with their head raised high, their monocle and tophat in perfect shape, as they proclaim their superiority over the peasants who refuse to hold back emotions.
Honestly, let people smash their stuff, not everyone can slide into your perfect idea of a human being, some people feel much better hitting a wall than just controlling it, and besides, they probably feel much worse because they have a stronger love for the game, the loss that makes you rage is the loss where you regret playing so horribly because you really want to be good.
As the OP said earlier in the thread, he decides to use his money to buy desks he can smash, just like you use your money to buy the newest in tophat fashion, that's what makes him happy.

The canes, what about their canes?
No seriously, i like seeing people rage in multiplayer events. I always rage when i lose to my brother in any game, never in sc2 though. But i'm really enthusiastic when i manage to pull a miracle win (for my standards). Then i jump up and/or scream at the monitor.
I threw my bedside table out the window during a ladder session once.
I had to explain it to my house mates but didn't want to go into it and explain why SC2 would make me do it, or want them to think I had a problem. So I told them I had an argument with my parents.
i feel you bro. i rage as well when i loose. I didn't break anything yet, i jsut start dissing the shit out of the opponets. I dont know how to fix it any tips?
The closest I ever come to raging is building extractors everywhere when my opponent pre-emptively gg's to waste their time for being a jerk (BM doesn't bother me but I can't stand when people gg first). Currently I'm sitting in a game where a guy did a pre-emptive gg so I built extractors everywhere and he thinks he is being clever by leaving the last one alone to "waste my time". So while he does this (And thus has wasted 20 minutes so far) I'm happily enjoying some Plants vs. Zombies on my other monitor, browsing TL, watching NASL etc.
Edit: He finally gave up and killed it with mass infested Terrans. 42 minutes in.
TIP: If you break your desk a little bit....just enough so that your key board rocks back and forth and you have to play with it in your lap. DON'T. You are NOT Sheth. Playing with the keyboard in your lap will only make you rage harder.
Cheers

The farthest I have gone to "raging" is just slamming my fist on my table. This only happens if I lose a game that I should have won, but I made some stupid mistakes and actions. On average, I usually just sigh, shake my head, or cuss out loud. I don't judge people if they rage in a video game because it shows that they care and want to win. Even athletes (sometimes professional) get pissed off when the game doesn't go their way. All I'm saying is that it is human nature and I know there are cases that the person raging do need some medical help. And I love reading some of these posts showcasing how tamed or superior they are by saying they never "rage".
Since I'm only like Diamond Toss and I am usually very good at keeping my anger to a minimum, I just leave without a gg. That only happens when I get cheesed/4 gated/some type of stupid all in.

Anger is a real human emotion. Taking it out on inanimate objects isn't necessarily worse than bottling it up and pretending like nothing's wrong. In fact, some would argue otherwise. As long as the anger isn't affecting other people or your long-term health, there's nothing ethically wrong with breaking a keyboard or punching a wall (provided you own the property or fix it up afterwards).
Stop being holier than thou and pretending that anger is a nonexistent aspect of human existence.
Tip: Never smash anything other than your opponent's feelings. BM makes it all better, and it costs a lot less to replace your conscience after accidentally destroying it.

It's actually quite easy to hurt yourself punching anything. Most people dont have any training (eg holding your wrist correctly), and although you may say it's easy to form a fist it's alot more complicated than that. Punch a punching bag a few hundred times in rapid succession, you will hit it at an awkward angle atleast a couple of times. Each one of those can cause a break in your wrist, some weaker fingers, forearm. The risks of hitting a hard surface like a wall in rage only increase the risk. I once broke my pinky finger, catching a guys face at a bad angle. was just a little drunken fight with a russian over his right to take my step sister to his place after hes had 15 or 16 drinks and cant even back out of the driveway. Offtopic but apparently I was "cockblocking" him and he did not like that much. His parents picked him up in a fit and drove him home. was good lols until the next morning when my finger was quite swollen. tl;dr, it's easy to hurt your hand punching something.

Depends if you're angry with your owns skill, in which case you won't get any release from calling out your opponent.
Or you're disillusioned with thinking the opponent is imbalanced or used an imoral strategy, in which case sure your ego will feel better, but you'll have a harder time getting better at the game.

You know, there was a psychological study that studied if it's really better to punch a punching bag than do nothing about your anger. The people in the study had to write an essay and after that their essays got mocked and such. After that they were giving the option to punch a punching bag or not to do anything. And after that they were given the power to annoy someone writing an essay with electric shocks etc. The outcome of the study was that the people who were punching a punching bag became more aggressive than the people who were doing nothing (The people punching the bag gave more severe electric shocks and gave more of them than the people who did nothing). So it doesn't really help to punch something because as this study suggests, people just get more aggressive when they've encaged in an aggressive activity.

Very true. You have to be a really unstable person to get that mad about SC2. xD
Have fun or take a break. It's a game.
And it's a 1v1 game, that makes it very competitive by essence. IF you loose to someone, that means someone is better than you, or even just simply outsmarted you, I don't see any reason why it's unreasonable to get annoyed at loosing, especially to a cocky player, or a protoss.

Lose* Losing*
It's okay to get annoyed, I do a lot. Because I mainly 1v1 I know my losses are my fault, and try to improve the next time I play. To get so mad that you break something, just seems unnecessary & excessive.
One advice to every SC2 league player. Show some discipline and don't rage the world over your mistakes. Instead of throwing your energy in raging you could save your time and refine your game.

I sometimes internally boil up when someone does a 6-8 pool, or a 6 rax. But I should play safe and learn to stop myself. At most I've thrown a squishy ball at a window, but nothing like what I do on a tennis court if I get mad (which is pretty difficult to reach).

Oh shut up and quit with the judgmental superiorism ♥

those are some pretty big conclusions to jump to, i know tons of gamers who break shit they bought. self control is nice to have, but not everyone can control rage as well as you. in fact i'm going have to flat out accuse you of being a massive douchebag, what's wrong with you?

Defensive much? Maybe i'm hitting too close to home huh? If you lack the ability to control your anger, then I recommend taking a martial arts course. You will find it difficult to find employment if even the loss of a game sends you into violent destructive fits of rage.

Couple things here. First, those conclusions aren't that big to jump to. I buy my own stuff and I'll be damned if I'm about to destroy it over something dumb. On the other hand, I've watched my lil bro break shit all his life that was given to him simply because he didn't have to work for it, and he thus didn't appreciate it.
I do appreciate all the photos in this thread though, it makes me feel better that the only thing I've damaged is my hand and not any actual equipment. I don't want to buy new stuff!
Not sure if serious. Break a keyboard --> buy a new one. Break a hand --> potentially never going to be the same again
pretty hard to punch something so hard that you severely fuck your hand up. i've had some ragetimes where i haven't been able to play for a week or two cause of pain afterwards though LOL
though can't imagine i'd ever be able to break my hand way too bad
Speaking as a medical professional (I'm an x-ray tech), I see 1 or more of these each friday night or weekend:
They happen when I guy thinks it's a better idea to punch a wall than it is to punch something else, hence "boxer's fracture."
Word from the wise: don't punch walls.
but can something like that be so severe that you can't play anymore?
Best case scenario: if put in a cast or half cast, you won't be laddering 1 handed until it comes off. If the bone heals well, you may not notice it for the rest of your life. Or it could just give you pain before rainstorms.
Worst case scenario: it heals poorly (either due to you not seeking medical attention at all, or just waiting too long) and your play is compromised due to tendon/ligament/nerve damage. I'm not saying your pinky finger will NEVER work properly again, but is it worth the risk?

I just had a theory biscuit. It tasted like intelligence!
Don't go rage crazy, kids. Life's too short. And it's stupid.
Usually i just rage really hard and punch my pillow and bed. Then i proceed to watch the replay and become extremely mad at myself for losing to such a bad player.

This.
When you realize that you are at fault for every single loss you've ever had, you will react this way all the time. You just sigh and either watch the replay or go on to the next game.
But when your zerg opponent is able to baneling bust you with 14+ Blings and win even though you have a 3 rax wall, it can be quite frustrating....
I can't believe how angry this game makes people. You realize you actually paid sixty bucks to do this, right?
If I'm playing badly, it upsets me, but usually I just go to bed and play some more in the morning. My loss streaks are almost always because I'm not getting enough sleep.

You are a douchebag. Read the thread at least. There's just so much wrong written I'm not even going to try.
On the topic: I live a stressful life in a house with more people I'd like. College is so hard for me right now. I play a lot of other online games, like DotA, CS and Guild Wars. I am very calm and serene through all my activities, and I kinda preach that style of life to my friends and family. The only thing that makes me rage is that lovely game, still I the only thing I do is facepalm until I'm calm(to do this instead of screaming and hitting the computer required lots of training.)

Lol.
You can assume this if you want, but I'll make an assumption that I make a minimum of twice as much money as you per year. Given average salaries and average ages of most gamers, I'd say my assumption is at least 90% more accurate than yours, since I already know yours is incorrect.

Nobody asked for your recommendation. Post a rage picture instead

Lol I'll admit I have broken stuff in the past, but I bought every bit of it. I rarely rage lately, almost never with starcraft, usually it was CS or some FPS. Martial arts doesn't really help, as i was and am pretty into them. As people have said they can be calm in all situations EXEPT gaming lol. To be fair I think you've just seen one too many of the rage kid videos where they are just spoiled brats that rampage without regard for anything.
I sometimes closed fist smash my desk (pylon on ledge warp in dt's) but it has enough give to take it without destroying my pinky or cracking. Lucky me ^___^

I never rage. I even gg and leave games I'm about to win to make sure it's impossible for even you to rage. There will only be happiness in all the games I play. Failure to do so will result in your termination. I also ride pony unicorns. And not literal ride, metaphoric ride. As in I have sex with it.
If you really care about starcraft, i'm sure you'll get pissed when you lose, i want to be good at this game, so when i do something incredibly stupid and lose because of it, i get frustrated, all my hard work and i do something like this, i go and punch something because it makes me feel better.
This is a dangerous thread, you'll attract people who see this and thinks to themself "Hah, i'm above such things, i'm way superior to these people", just like i don't understand how you can be so close-minded as to think your way is the only correct one, so can you not understand how someone passionate feels about losing.
I've decided that i like to punch things when i get frustrated, i don't see why i shouldn't do it when it makes me feel better, if i break anything i'll buy a new one, i pay for the pleasure of destroying objects like you pay for the pleasure of expensive food, that's all there is to it.
When I rage, because of SC2, I don't destroy things. I do something else: Usually I swear/curse in English, when I am raging I do it in my mother tongue - Polish. Trust me, that is probably the best language to curse. There are so many "bad" words in Polish
