Hmm its hard to say. Could be one jackass with an insane amount of money to blow and literally has no life. Or since the hack went public, hundreds, possibly thousands? It could get way worse in the next couple of days or so id imagine unless blizzard does something soon.

The best thing that Blizzard can do right now is disable all guest accounts to minimize the damage. And then, they can hunt down other hackers still doing this.

One thing I noticed is that there seem to be 2 versions of drop hack.

1) Boom you're gone. (the more popular one)
2) Persistent annoying lag throughout the game, leading to pretty much every high level player quitting as it is a waste of time. (less popular but possibly more difficult to fix...)

One thing I'd like to know in the case of (2) is whether it is just the game lagging or if you had control delay as well. If there was pretty much a lack of control delay...

Then there is one relatively trivial way to do this that is completely independent of actually hacking SC2 - i.e. all state information is as it should be, and as such an anti hack program that sweeps through SC2 memory would not be able to detect it. I had an idea a couple months back and actually implemented it, didn't make it public or abuse it or shit, but tested it in customs and it indeed works.

The key "drawback" or giveaway if you will of this (somewhat limited) method is that there is no control delay - gametime can be slowed to approximately a factor of 5 or 6 safely, but it will result in heavy control delay on the part of the user, without affecting the target.

Of course, with smarter filtering I am sure you can remove the control delay element, as I am sure there is some difference in certain things which I will not name... and there are a number of other optimizations which may be possible but I did not test.

But in short, my point is, that if the symptoms are what I described above, the job of "fixing" it is quite difficult indeed as it can be done without actually hacking SC2. There is a trivial way to "fix" it, but in fixing it in this manner, there is actually a huge user problem which may arise. I won't go into any detail on any of this since it would make the method rather obvious I think.

I feel so bad for the people at Blizzard that have to put up with customers who say stupid shit like "Just change your code." or "It's been 3 days why hasn't a patch come out yet? They must not care or know what they are doing."....... Like telling a football team losing a game to "Just score a touchdown and win." No wrong in expressing anger because this is actually ruining the ladder and does need to be addressed but at the same time some people need to stop thinking they can find out all the information on this hack in 2 days and write up a quick patch during a lunch break. Blizzard's not going to let SC2 die to hackers and give up on this game after one year. Yeah it sucks but we all have to deal with it and there's nothing you can do right now except wait for Blizzard to fix it, which they will.

I would like to clarify that a private winhack has recently been leaked to some select game hacking sites. There is indeed a winhack floating around, using it will surely lead to account termination as Blizzard will look into the reports. I know this because I am a moderator of the section to where the winhack was posted.

The best thing you can do if you feel like you've been wronged is to report the match in question.
