I'm not. Scoots has been completely on point - it's not just a problem in the fighting game community, it's something that is prevalent in "nerd gamer" culture sadly.
Yes, I email sponsors... to thank them. Don't post drunk, kids. My king, what has become of you?

and thats being unfair to nerds. its prevalent in all communities, big or small, mainstream or niche. outsiders are given more shit than veterans. it happens to males, females, gays, straights, whites, blacks, hell its the policy of TL to give you more shit if your new because you havent contributed yet.

i think this implied message that unfair treatment is somehow basement nerd specific is really unfair to nerds who live in their mums basement. everyones a dick, everwhere. is it good? no. is it just how things are? yes.

just because it happens, doesn't mean its right. Racism/sexism exists everywhere in the world, it happens, but that doesn't make it okay. You see this in media/sports all the time, some guy makes a sexist/racist remark, they get fired for it.

Scoots did a good job calling out lijoe. I love how the FGC keeps saying esports is all about money and that they wanna keep it real but they have no problem with Madcatz sponsoring like 50 players and Markman coming on their streams to promote the new $200 fightstick that probably costs $10 to produce.

They did a good job on the show with the FGC stuff, I think there is this ignorant stigma that acting in a more professional manner means "selling out". You can convey the same emotions without cursing or invoking sexist/racist terms, if anything Idra has been proof of this, he is still a "bad boy" in the sc2 community but he can do it without calling someone a faggot.

As someone who actually paid for MLG I was dissapointed that they basically glossed over the paywall issues. Having a paywall that is circumvented by adblock or default chrome IS A BIG DEAL, and not comparable to watching a restream where you don't get the same experience.

From what I've witnessed of the FGC, "keeping it real" is the exact opposite of what that is technically. The sponsors mentioned in the quote is one example, Aris is another...

I agree. I have zero sympathy for the argument that being professional is somehow selling out or the concept that using offensive language keeps it "real". It really just that the person making that argument wants to defend the behavior simply does not want to address the concept what they do is hurtful or unacceptable. Reasonable trash talking is fine and fun within reason, but even boxers and MMA fighters have the ability to show respect to people in the audience and women in general. Serious, people who professional beat other people into submission are better behaved that the fighting game community.

I watched as much as I could Aris's arguments, but I almost flew out of my chair when he said "Look, this isn't Starcraft". I wanted to scream, "No shit, you would never be allowed into that community. We would not tolerate you or your ignorance, because this community is run by adults"

getting shit because you are new is in no way comparable, and something you would probably experience in any job. Being "new" is something you can change, by contributing you become more veteran. You can't change your race or sex.

Probably the best part of that show show besides DJ Wheat's rant. Scoots literally silenced the guy with his argument. I listened to lijoe's stream afterwards and while he didn't concede defeat, Joe basically said he gave it his best shot arguing on behalf of the fighting community, but he couldn't dispute LO3's points. A learning experience is what he called it.

Having said that, Joe seems like a reasonable fellow.

I think that's the second LO3 I've watched and it's been highly entertaining.

I've never understood the idea that being highly offensive to a certain group is 'keeping it real' (since the 90's).

The biggest thing that most of the people that try to talk on the FGC's behalf miss is the fact that there's MULTIPLE generations of players in the community and each group/individuals have their own opinions on how things should be. There's no sucinct answer or explanation. Some of the people in the community have been playing the games for OVER 20 years.

The OG's want to try and keep it as it was when arcades were prevailant and new players literally had to prove themselves to garner any sort of respect. Others that got into the scene later want to see it remain hype without being censored to the point that popoffs and swearing are something that needs to be quelled. Others are perfectly fine with the idea of it dipping into the realm of "esports" where everything is more professional.

LIJoe seems like one of those people that is sort of in the middle. He doesn't want to see the scene censored by bigger leagues and organizations, but at the same time doesn't mind the idea of there being more money put into the scene.

With 20+ years of history, is it really a wonder that there's so many people with differing opinions and ideals?

"NO NO NO NO NO NO.... buts...
Jesus Christ"

I loved how many of the callers (and scoots/wheat to some extent) tried to talk about how people "didnt know aris" and that is how he is and bla bla how that was a bit sad and that he didn't understand how bad it was getting etc

Well, that is kind of the point, people was reaction to a guy that didn't know where the line was. Capcom or anyone else doesn't have a blaim in his way of acting, only how they let him build up the image of what they represent. For an outsider it speaks a bit about the community that he is allowed to become a somewhat featured personality, with this kind of mindset. Perhaps he has hidden it or that people gave a silent ok for this to happen and thus giving in on the way the scene is getting formed.

I don't need to know him to understand that this Aris guy need some real social skill training and should perhaps chill his ego or get a doctor to testify to his tourrette.
I am not young enough to know everything.
