GSL Super Tournament Champion Interview
[image loading]

Translated From PlayXP
Winner between (T)MMA vs. (T)Polt
+ Show Spoiler +

(T)PoltPrime or rather now… OptimusPrime
‘I have gotten here through constant effort.’
[image loading]
- Your thoughts on becoming the champion?
I am so astounded that I was able to win with an unbelievable score like 4:0.

- Most people picked MMA to win. What was the secret behind beating him so soundly 4:0?
I was able to pick apart MMA’s weakness. His style usually begins by taking a quick expand while sitting back on defense. I decided to not take the expansion and macroed up on one base, so when my opponent ends up expanding, I can do one strong push which he cannot stop.

- How did Marineking help you out for the preparation for this match?
Marineking taught me all about MMA’s builds and tendencies.

- How did you feel after winning the 1st set?
My condition was around 95% before the match started. But after I won the macro-oriented 2nd set, I was able to play like I would at my home.

- How did you deal with your nerves? You said during the media day that you would take some Korean folk medication.
I ate half of it before the match. I think after that my anticipation level was just about right.

- In the 4th set you dealt with the ghosts perfectly.
I didn’t think he would use it because it was a strategy he has previously shown. And especially because the 4th set was the deciding set, I didn’t think he would throw in anything tricky, so I was panicked. The ghosts didn’t get that far into my base so I was able to eventually block the attack.

- You shot up to 4th on the money rankings in one shot.
All the winners (except Fruitdealer) have gotten 2 wins. I hope to win again in the next season so I can continue that trend of two wins.

- For a while, you have been judged as one of the weaker players. But today, we were able to see perfect play from you, are you confident that you can show this form continually through the future?
I didn’t show particularly good play in my semifinal match. I wasn’t able to show my true skills because of my nerves. But in a situation like today when I was not nervous, I was able to really show my skills. Since I have experienced the finals, I believe I can continue to show great form in the future.

- The team league is starting soon. What do you want to tell your teammates?
The most important thing is to play our best. I know that I was having a hard time showcasing my true skills in the past, but I was able to get to this spot by continuously putting in the effort. I hope that all of us can grow our skills together with effort.

- How much did the mouse setting affect your ability to showcase your skills?
I think it has a big effect. After the previous interview, Byun even asked me about how I was doing my mouse settings.

- What did Marineking say to you in the booth after the 3rd set?
He told me my opponent was totally capable of coming back and winning 4:3. He told me to never be overconfident, and as long as I did that I could win.

- Are you confident that you can keep your top conditioning?
I have beaten some of the top players at their respective matchups in winning this tournament so I believe I showed some well-roundedness. I hope to continue my efforts in the future to keep my skills honed.

- Any last comments?
I want to thank all my teammates who helped me win this tournament. I also want to thank our sponsors Sabasaba chicken. I love my family who always watches over me, and I want to thank my fans as well. I hope they can keep believing in me and so I can continue to show great form in the future.
+ Show Spoiler +

Wow
I voted Polt, because after he called Jinro out on his badness, I have been cheering for him like, biggest fan ever.
Sadly I could not watch the games, and since MMA was on tear recently, I wasnt optimistic on Polt winning.
Aaaaaaaah, Im so happy now. 4-0, god damn it! I could not wish for more! Even though everyone hypes MMA, I do not think he is as good as everyone claims him to be. Or at least he havent showed us his true skill. Whatever it is, Polt is clearly the better. I can only hope for him to do well Code S next season, and I hope he is able to take the whole thing.
Oh, and please dont change your ID. PLEASE.
Polt Fighting!
JangBi will go the finals.

Still the most satisfying finals thanks to the showmatch! Big props to gom to getting 2 matches in there so we actually have stuff to stay up for!

too bad mma played... ugh, i feel like polt is player-kryptonite, but I admit, he played well this series, especially w/ the zatic build, mma really didnt know how to deal w/ it...

ty for all the interviews this season!

So glad Polt won. MMA is ridiculously overhyped and still has a few hurdles to go before he should be considered a top top tier player. Polt won this tournament by beating some amazing TvTers, and top zerg and protosses in Losira and Alicia

He's only 17, think he's the youngest after Creator and has been in 3 finals so far. His time will come!

I'm just glad MMa didn't take it since I'm still angry at MarineKing for not 3-0ing him. Grats Polt, you deserved it after today's amazing play.

Marineking taught me all about MMA’s builds and tendencies.

Oh my god this one sentence of the interview is the most amazing.

Its like in that movie "enemy at the gates"... the commissar says, "Let me show you where the major is" and leans out the window, getting his brains blown out, to show his friend the major's position so he can kill him in return.

Or in DBZ when Goku fought Cell so Gohan could see his fighting style.

Or in Star Wars when obi-wan died when fighting vader to motivate luke.

Or pretty much ANY other epic sacrifice in something cool.

MarineKing sacrificed himself, and in his defeat brought the knowledge polt needed to avenge his master. SO COOL.

Amazing player, able to improve in just a few months from a low-undeserving Code-S to many players to a champion of the Super Tournament, and he definitely deserves that. Unlike many finalists, actually prepared according to this opponents' weaknesses instead of just builds they have in mind.

Also do not forget that he is still studying in the University of Seoul, amazes me how he is able to be champion and keep up his studies at the same time.

SO COOL.

Heh, it's not like MKP lost on purpose just so that he could prepare Polt.

Apparently Polt.

Yay Polt! Totally voted for him as revenge for MKP, though any appreciation I have for Polt seems to just be transferring directly to MKP. <3 MKP :D

<-- Shameless fanboy. But seriously, GJ Polt for playing so well and I hope to see Prime do better in the team league.

Tastosis brought the comparisons between Polt (or was that Lyn) and San up before and has concluded that Polt keeps on improving over time while San dramatically turned into a whole different beast in one go. I'm not sure which is exactly better but I suppose Polt would get the most improved player award since his improvements has been more sustainable (San got dropped down to Code A, so did Polt but he won the Code S wildcard) and he has won a championship. Though San did fairly well for being in the semis twice.

Lyn and Moon are a little ways behind those two in terms of improvement in my opinion. And they'll continue to grow when they get to practice with both Naniwa and Thorzain. Win-win for everyone.

Also I was unaware that Polt was capable of spreading his marines like a boss when he engaged siege tanks in siege mode. I always knew he had some decent micro and manoeuvres, nothing flashy, but that spread made me think that it was MKP playing for a bit. This also happened when he was playing Maka in deciding game 3 when he would just waltz in and demolish Maka's army/economy.

Thanks for the translation, interesting results, glad MKP helped Polt though I'm disappointed in his lose.

My hunch was right. I don't even know why I had this gut feeling Polt was going to beat MMA and that's what actually happened. Congratulations to Polt. Don't spend that 100 million won all in one place.

I guess you didn't watch the LG Special Tournament right before this one. That was an amazing series.

10K USD + a 55 inch HDTV isn't too shabby either.

Yea and a 4-0 from something supposed to start at midnight still kept me up til 4 a.m.--plus the sleep I lost at how painful those games were for me (obv an MMA fan). Congrats to Polt, who made way better decisions designed against his enemy. I still don't understand how MMA didn't see this coming, with people like Boxer to prep him.

Also, @ Skullhoof, people weren't predicting MMA to win 4-0 because they are haters, that's just a silly leap. Yeah, maybe the haters make a lot of noise, but don't take away from the perfectly logical people that looked at %'s and MMA's TvT dominance. I was afraid of Polt's 2 rax all week and as a poster recently said, had that gut feeling, and unfortunately it proved to be true.

To reiterate, I'm happy for Polt and will watch him more in the future, but I'm even more unhappy for MMA being so unprepared for players to expose his weakness. People on TL were pointing it out, you'd think team SlayerS could have figured it out. Oh well, another one-sided finals. In that sense, i was glad because it would have kept me up even later.

On a slightly related note, Rainbow is the first kpop performance I really enjoyed although I can't pin why.

It was one-sided final but not a bad one. I enjoyed it. There was a lot of fast exchanges between both players. Not your typical TvT.

I am really surprised that MKP and Polt were able to prepare for this better than all of team SlayerS. That in itself is quite astounding. Especially when marineking anounced he had found MMA's weakness, and clearly made it present in their series.

Anyways, GJ Polt and thanks for the interview.

Slayers and MMA dont know his weakness at that time
MMA- Marineking claimed that he had found your weakness.
I have thought about my weakness, but I can’t figure it out. I don’t think he was able to exploit it that much today. I hope he can help me find my weakness next time.

from what i saw on their games on replay and on their ladder prime is good aggresive at early game 1base or 2base and micro.thats why they can found weakness on their opponent better because they are used to it and good making early game builds. MMA is exposed because all his games in super tournaments is TvT he almost lose to MKP on crevasse lucky boxer told him to watch the tower always and concentrate and MKP used that build before on some terran i forgot his name,
any player on that map fast expand so MKP push with just marine with combat shield and stim before his opponent finish siege mode, we all shock and even the commentator say its bad but when he enter his base he completely destroy his opponent tank and rines before the bunker finish. but MMA counter that by building 2 bunker and parking lots SCV on the bunker to repair and scout alot but MKP saw that and back out and got completely behind on tanks and got contain.MMA played that well, MKP is good at breaking contain and turn it to base trade.

Phosgene, translator beast of the GSL Super Tournament. You deserve a cookie.

Nice to see Polt winning... and to everyone saying he's going to take the OptimusPrime.WE ID, I don't think he is. Polt is too nice a player to do that to MarineKingPrime.WE without MKP's permission.
I wasted my nights, you turned out the lights, now I'm paralysed, still stuck in that time...

Amazing play by Polt, well deserved! I originally cheered for MMA since he seems like such a good guy, but Polt won me over by the second set. In two GSL's I believe we will be getting something sick (with the good players we don't see much of in code S and the more mediocre ones in code A)
really?
