MMA –‘Advancing to the round of 8, it still hasn’t dawned on me yet.’

- Your thoughts on making the round of 8?
I am not too excited. It may be because I had to beat a teammate, so I am not too happy about it. I know GanZi prepared hard for this, so he may be a bit broken up about it.

- Did you have any pressure for this match after becoming the MLG champion?
I wasn’t under any pressure, and since I only had 1 day to really prepare for this match, I didn’t really play thinking that I would win. Since I wasn’t able to physically practice too much, I tried to use a lot of image training for today.

- Is the Siege tank/hellion combination the new go to build for mech?
The trends change so quickly that if you are not with it, then you fall behind. I have practiced mech a lot and I feel like I have found out its weaknesses.

- What is your secret to quick multitasking?
I think that terrans have to have good awareness. You have to be constantly scouting and take control of the watchtowers.

- You are being pegged as one of the front runners to win this tournament, your thoughts?
I don’t think I should be considered that yet. Making the round of 8 hasn’t even dawned on me.

- Your thoughts about the MLG Columbus event?
I have heard that there would be a lot fans in the U.S., but I never imagined that there would be that many people. Their passion for the sport was enormous. It was almost like the World Cup. I hope that we can have stages like that soon in Korea. The Hotel was nice, and MLG took care of us meticulously, even adding bodyguards. Also when I had an upset stomach after eating a hamburger really quickly, they provided me with medicine.

- Did any of your opponents leave a distinct impression?
Rather than the players, to me, the most memorable thing was the fans. There were so many fans that were so passionate. There were people who got my signature and came back to get one more.

- What did your first foreign tournament mean to you personally?
I feel like my mind has changed. Of course I always practice and play hard, but I got a lot of good advice from Moon and the media people that were there with me.

- What did you think about the newer maps like Testbug?
I did not know those maps existed. When I got there, I focused on familiarizing myself with the maps. It was hard to face zerg on that map so I played by trying to eliminate that map, but against Idra it was the first map so I couldn’t do anything about that.

- What did you think right after that first match against Idra?
I thought he was typing gg early to me as a ceremony. But after it happened, I just thought to myself, I guess he is a player who has been known to do that before and I guess it happened for me too. It felt like the heavens helped me out. It was definitely a match where I was behind.

- What did your ceremony mean after you won against Idra?
MC got such good responses from the audience after his ceremonies so I wanted to do one too. It wasn’t received that well on stage, but I think the online community enjoyed it.

- Any last comments?
I want to thank Ga-yeon, BoxeR, and coach Cella. I won at MLG Columbus, but I will make sure to not stop and become an even better player in the future. I also want to thank the TSL and fOu terran players for helping me practice.

Ryung – ‘I am feeling the pressure for my match against MMA.’

- Your thoughts on making the round of 8?
It was a lot harder to win than I thought. I never thought that I would lose, but after losing the 2nd set, I was under a lot of pressure.

- Were you under any added pressure because MMA had won his match before you?
That didn’t affect me too much, but it looked like luck was on his side, so I hoped that it would be with me too.

- How did you prepare for today?
I practiced using the same builds as before. I think I let him have the 2nd set because I was continuing to use the same build over and over again.

- What propelled you to win today?
After the 1st set, the coach came into the booth and said some words that really helped me out.

- What did he say?
He talked to me about patience. It helps me focus when my opponent uses a strategy that I do not expect.

- You will finally be facing MMA.
Since it is really happening, I can feel the pressure. It doesn’t really matter if I lose, but I am feeling it now. I also feel like if my play is bad, I will take some criticism (at the team house).

- If you were to predict who wins in the round of 8?
We both haven’t had much practice for TvT recently. But I feel like the person who gets more practice before our match will win, so I feel like once we get back to the team house the round of 8 will begin. I will make sure to practice extra hard.

- You may have to face another teammate in the round of 4.
I do not think these matches are good teamwise and personally. They say that it is a good thing when at least one person on the team advances, but it is never a good thing when it is not me advancing.

- Will you show any ceremonies if you beat MMA?
I plan to show off a ceremony that I thought of, or one that the fans recommend. I plan to send a message even greater than a loss.

- Any last comments?
In a tournament like this, more than personal skill, it really depends on who helps you practice. I really want to thank everyone who helped me practice. Also, I want to say that my coach’s advice always has a lot of effect on my wins.

TheBest – ‘I will enter the round of 8 with a relaxed mindset.’

- Your thoughts on making the round of 8?
I am happy that I was able to advance to my first round of 8. I am still shaking a bit.

- You just had a difficult comeback win.
I am of course happy because I won. But I gotta say, I practiced so much for the 1st set, and lost so easily. In the 3rd set map, I didn’t prepare anything, so I just used the same build as the 2nd set.
- Did you not know that the baneling attack was coming in the 1st set?
I have faced that same thing in practice. It is really hard to stop a fast baneling attack. I was playing without including that in my plans and he happened to use that exact thing.

- You must have been under a great deal of pressure after losing the 1st set.
I had confidence in the build for the 2nd set, so I trusted in the win rate of that build.

- You will be facing either RevivaL or Marineking.
I feel like I will be facing Marineking. So I will be going into the round of 8 with a relaxed mindset.

- Are you not greedy for a championship?
I feel like Marineking will definitely advance, and I am pretty bad in my TvT. I will make sure to start practicing starting today.

- Your personal thoughts on the solution to TvZ?
I believe it’s the same solution that MMA came up with, heavy medivac harassment play and being aggressive.

- Will the round of 8 be your toughest challenge?
I take each and every moment as the toughest challenge.

- You have achieved your highest result.
I feel like this is the result of my practice with my teammates.

- Any last comments?
I want to thank the zerg players on the fOu team. I hope that Leenock can win his match tomorrow.

MarineKing – ‘I will not any more mistakes going forward.’

- Your thoughts on making the round of 8?
I have faced players who are my close friends in both the round of 32 and 16, so in respect to them, I feel like I have to win the tournament.

- You made a critical error in the 1st set.
I had confidence in my build in the 1st set, but RevivaL came in with an unexpected roach aggression. I didn’t expect anything weird but he came in at a funky timing so the game almost ended there. I will definitely not make any more errors like that going forward.

- How did you calm yourself after the 1st set loss?
I knew that if I lost the next match, I would be out. But thankfully, the 2nd set map was crevasse, which I had the most confidence in, and the 3rd set map was also good for terrans, so I thought to myself that I would win as long as I played safe and calm.

- You were able to take the game in the 2nd set after one drop.
I feel like to stop that play, zergs will need to put zerglings right underneath the drop before the marines land. My opponent wasn’t able to do that, and I knew I had won once my marines landed.

- You used a 11/11 strategy in the 3rd set.
On certain maps, when the terran player has good control, the 11/11 strategy can be a nightmare for zerg players to hold. I feel like I can win 95% of those games. When I use them against my teammates they get mad at me, so I only use them on the ladder against random people.

- So how does a zerg player defend that?
You have to go pool first instead of hatch first. If you can get zerglings and drones to come out and fight the timing of that push, it is easily defended. I have had times when it has failed.

- Your reason for not getting stim in the 3rd set?
It was a simple mistake.

- What did the self-destruct-looking ceremony mean?
I think it is one that Maka did before, but it came to mind so I decided to do it.

- Who do you think is the toughest remaining obstacle left for you to get to the finals?
If I can get to the semifinals, I will probably have to face MMA, that will be the toughest. I have won against him once but he just won the MLG and he is a good player, so that game will be really tough.

- You are also in good position to win the LG special league.
As long as I practice hard and play well in both, I feel like my chances of making both finals is higher than 50%.

- Any last comments?
I want to thank my team’s BBoongBBoong, AnnYeong, and Check for helping me practice. fOu’s Terious told me about a lot of zerg builds against terrans but I lost to one of them in the 1st set, so I want to say I am sorry to him. I also want to thank SlayerS Sleep.
