Bomber has missed his flight to the United States. The google translation implies that this means that he will miss MLG and Milkis has confirmed that to be true.
normally if iw anst going to mlg id be super disappointed but seeing as how on the slim chance id have to play him and now i definitely dont im happy lol
But yes, how can he miss a flight when there's a fucking image of him on his way to the airport with two other people? Did he forget his passport at home, or something?
Also, any idea what will happen to the spot in the group? Will it go to the winner of the CotH? Or maybe simply the next ranking unseeded player?

wtf stop trolling idiot. take a look at nasl, sometimes shit happens and players cannot make it. it happens to everyone.
If bomber and losira went to the airport together and losira is on the plane then there must have been some sort of problem....
Either that or hes afraid of flying, i doubt it would be the latter though must have been some kind of problem like he forgot his passport or something.
djWheat just told IdrA on the EG tournament as they are casting and IdrA said something along the lines of "Oh wow, he was in my group... he was the best player in my group. I was actually looking forward to playing him after watching him against Nestea."
That really sucks though... he was probably the strongest player coming from Korea, but it's good for everyone else!
Wow, this is so depressing :-( I was really looking forward to seeing him play... Why Bomber, why? >.> He's also probably the best Korean out of the four that were seeded, so how he performed would be a big part of comparing the best foreigners at MLG to "the Koreans" in general. Really a shame :-(
Bomber vs IdrA was going to be the epic opening match for friday if i'm not mistaken too :/ it's a shame but somehow I'm not worried about match quality at MLG.
Will you guys please at least give the other 268 or 269 non-Korean players a chance to beat 3 KOREANS?????? Yes the Koreans going to MLG are really good but wow. The second they announced them going all I hear is "It's over. Koreans will wipe the face of the earth with them."

I just watched that vod last night before sleep. In fact, I watch all of his vods. It always excites me to see him listed in an upcoming event. Hope he makes it somehow.
Honestly this has happened in the past with many pro gamers, not just in SC. BUT REALLY?... people are just.. sigh -_- oh well, better chance for the foreigners.

You do realize that it's roughly a 15 hour flight (and that's without delays) right? Also, having to search for a scheduled flight in time by late thurs-friday would be near impossible.

I feel less sorry for myself as a spectator who will miss out watching a great competitor than I do for Bomber himself. Koreans are always talking about how much they would like to compete abroad. He must have really been looking forward to this ever since he got his invite. Poor guy.

I don't think MVP would have the time and resources a few hours after losing to fly to America.
Maybe, a super long shot, would be MC since he was eliminated a week ago, has learned some English, has nothing to do, and is close with Jinro-Huk.
TorcHGaming Trevor Housten by SeltzerPlease ST Bomber is going to be giving these away to his favorite fan at the end of MLG! http://yfrog.com/h8mnnbjj #ZowieGear 12 hours ago
If HuK made that comment, it is probably someone from oGs or maybe an ST replacement like Ace or Squirtle (hoping for Ace or Nada) but I will lol if it is MC since he will go right into IdrAs group after IdrA has been preparing for Bomber. It will be the ultimate troll move.
I'm surprised that MLG/Startale/GSL didn't coordinate for this event. A visa is, sometimes, tough to obtain, but I feel like they had pretty adequate time. It wasn't just some tourist - he had other interests that had...interests...in seeing him come to America: two competitive organizations and his team. It's too bad but it isn't some travesty, someone somewhere made a mistake.

I think this is quite rude. There's other koreans going. It's not like Bomber was the only korean, or guaranteed the win.
It's because of all the hype surrounding Bomber and how he's a huuuge favorite to win.
But still, I wouldn't decide not to watch MLG because of one missing player, and a top-tier player at that. There are plenty of other great players in this tourney that also deserve to win.
I don't think it can be MC because MC goes to Shanghai for the semi-finals of the Stars War tournament sometime in the next week, even though it'd be amazing if MC showed up. Since it's Huk personally tweeting the only other person I assume it will be is Jinro. I don't know why people are assuming it's going to be anyone else like MKP or Nestea who are in the GSL Super Tournament and would want to focus solely on their chance of winning that and not getting jetlagged.

I don't know specifics about their culture, and how e-sports team are generally structured, but my initial thoughts are this is a huge fail by their team manager. Looking into passports/visas should pretty much be one of the top priorities to look into, once you know your player is going overseas. Tough times for Bomber.
Very unfortunate. They even rescheduled super tournament around bombers flight to accommodate for MLG. TBH, I'd be disappointed if Jinro was the replacement(out of the tournament, tweet from huk, seems likely). No disrespect to Jinro but I believe Bomber is a much stronger player and increases the competition greatly at MLG. I hope he gets re-invited into the next MLG.
wtf? He even went there with torch and losira, yet he didnt manage to get on the plane?
Some mystery we got here
If I understand correctly, he doesnt have a biometric passport, just a normal one Korean can go to USA without visa only if they have a biometric passport otherwise they need to apply for visa on the US Embassy
So probably when he checked-in at the airport they notice that he doesnt have a biometric passport and thus cant let him board the plane

Nevermind then, thought I saw a post on gomtv's forums saying that Jinro was leaving but it might have been a troll thread. Either way, it's probably Jinro.

That is good and bad. I'm happy that it'll give all the other people a great chance but out of all the Korean invitees, Bomber was indefinitely my favorite so I'm really sad that he won't be here to compete. At least the coth winner will be there to reign hell down on all who oppose!

You're free to think that he's overrated because I can see where you're coming from, but when he has a >50% winrate in both TvP and TvT and you imply that his TvP is incompetent and say that his TvT is depressing, you're just flat-out wrong and being biased as hell.

Not to mention the final games of pool play happen on Saturday so theoretically if he gets there by then MLG can have Bomber play the people in his group while they're waiting to play the last member from the open bracket. Hopefully MLG can make this happen!
So I guess one of 4 things will happen: 1. Everyone who is scheduled to play Bomber gets a 2-0 walkover. 2. Highest seed from open bracket is bumped up into Group play, every other open bracket player jumps up one seed, top open bracket player gets a first round walkover/some random person fills last seed of open bracket. 3. Another Korean is sent to replace Bomber through MLG-GSL exchange program. 4. CSN is sending a Korean to MLG through the open bracket, perhaps that Korean can now be directly seeded.
I don't see a very high possibility for 3, I'm sure there's a lot of paperwork and preparation going into sending a person all the way across the world for 3-4 days.
4 seems like the most rational idea, but I have a feeling that MLG is going with 1.

He didn't singlehandedly do it, he never all-killed anybody now did he? He may have sniped people in a Bo1 ace match and had a couple two or three kills against relatively unknown players but that doesn't mean he's accomplished anything that puts him on Bomber's level.

They would never do 1 because its even against their own seeding procedure and would cause a shitstorm. Walkovers in group play would never happen. They must be aware of the chance of a seeded player not showing. Either they get another korean, possibly CSN, or they take the 17th in MLG points out of the open bracket before it starts.

okay in all seriousness they can't give people a walkover because it would raise hell, and they do not want hell this time around. So, imo, they would most likely let July take Bomber's place or fly another Korean out to appease the fans.
Letting July take the seed will not go down too well but better than most as he is widely known and popular among the community.
Jinro is great and all, but with his current form, he would more than likely get knocked out in the open bracket before he had a chance to make an impact.
Has to be a Code S class Korean or someone like MC for there to be a huge impact.
Kind of Ironic, after someone notable tweeting about how Korean players aren't afraid to fly and compete in foreign events and foreigners afraid of flying out to Korea to compete with Koreans.
To all the people that keep saying there's not enough time to fly someone from Korea: If they are replacing bomber's spot in the pool... it's 2 days and 14 hours until the start of pool play... that should be enough time to get over here.

It isn't ironic at all since your point makes no sense. What does bomber missing the flight have anything to do with fear?
This is dissapointing indeed.. I was very interested in seeing how a top terran player such as bomber stacks up against top tier NA/EU players.
But then again, we get to watch MMA, Moon, Losira and another korean player in this mlg. I didn't understand why some people were putting down Moon in state of the game episode 40. But then again, we get to watch MMA, Moon, Losira and another korean player in this mlg. I didn't understand why some people were putting down Moon in state of the game episode 40. His 2nd place in IEM and current record in NASL (6-2 mind you, with apparent lag issues) should speak for themselves and he should be a strong contender for mlg. Yes I am a Moon fanboy but his hype is just.
I want to agree with you but he just played soooooo bad in the super tournament recently and his previous track record in gsl is very poor. He's not bad by any means, but not a top level korean zerg.
Man...I was looking forward to seeing him play in person. Kinda surprised that something like this wasn't planned or executed better but meh, stuff happens.

That's not the point - you can't just fly over to the States for any reason, especially if you are coming for commercial reasons as Bomber is. I'm defining commercial reasons as ones that can win you money and can be classified as "work", which definitely covers playing in an MLG.
You've gotta apply for those, and 2 days is most definitely not enough to get that application through.
Unfortunate, cause Bomber would have easily been a contender to win this event. I'm still pulling for LZGamer though!!!!

Was this his first time leaving the country? I'm also just kind of curious about how this could happen, but oh well. Someone earlier posted that the ST twitter said Bomber is planning to attend MLG Anaheim, though, so at least we'll get to see him there and they'll have everything worked out for that, I hope.
epic facepalm. Bomber could have been in the RO8 or 4 for sure or even win if he had some good luck/shape, too bad such a good player can't attend the MLG

It isn't ironic at all since your point makes no sense. What does bomber missing the flight have anything to do with fear?
what he's implying is that Bomber actually feigned his inability to attend MLG with visa issues because he was chickening out. aka he thinks Bomber was afraid to fly out and play foreigners out of fear of losing.
he's just some anti-korean foreigner troll probably. nvm him.
July just got his spot to MLG. If ST sorts his visa out in time, they should be able to do the same for Bomber. Here's to hoping it works out for both of them and they share the same flight.
I bet it was because some idiot accidentally used his Starcraft username when booking the tickets, and he got held up at security because his passenger ID said Bomber on it.

The CSN CoTh games were played awhile ago so they had time to get Julys visa ready, shouldn't be a problem for July. Doubt they will get one for Bomber on time.

I don't know for sure but it is highly possible since these were replays, the winner could have been determined days to weeks ago.

MVP got pretty easily knocked down into Code A in the Up/Downs a few months back as well. DRG is an absurdly amazing player who hasn't even had a shot in Code A yet. At the highest levels in Korea so many things can happen and top players can drop games any day. Haypro advanced through the open bracket and has had nowhere near the success of Jinro, but all of a sudden Jinro cannot compete? Please stop judging players simply on the one or two matches you see of them a month (if they get knocked out early) and saying that they don't have what it takes.
Wait. You need a visa to travel to the United States for a week? I feel like that isn't right. Every time I have traveled to a foreign country I have not needed a visa, is the U.S. different?

The US is quite strict in terms of VISA requirements. Quite possibly stricter than getting a Schengen VISA (or maybe that was just my experience - didn't even have to interview for a Schengen).

I don;t get the hype about bomber tbh. I haven't seen any games, specifically ZVT games that reflect brilliance. If Idra can roll MVP I have no doubt that he could roll bomber.

Idra is going to be less than happy, as i imagine that he has been practicing his ass off for ZvT against bomber.... only now to face the one and only Minchul who happens to play Idra's favorite race haha.

To all those saying the Koreans are automatically going to win the tournament, fuck off. Remember Naniwa busting his ass through the open bracket to win the whole thing? It's a tournament and anything can happen. The Koreans are going to be extremely jet lagged and I don't think they will do quite as well as all the fanboys think they will.

Bomber is extremely good. 4-2 over MVP, beating MMA and Ryung in code A.
Top of korean ELO, crushed whitera 8-2 in a massive series and his win rates are insane. Sure he lost vs Nestea but I'd favour him over any other zerg.

I don't see a very high possibility for 3, I'm sure there's a lot of paperwork and preparation going into sending a person all the way across the world for 3-4 days.
4 seems like the most rational idea, but I have a feeling that MLG is going with 1.

Poor european teams that send their player to MLG for the first time, then - news that 4 koreans are seeded - news that July is coming too - news that MC is coming. They should just go to korea instead of USA :D

Bomber's TvZ is good but not great. It's the TvT and TvP that are scary, scary good. He's got the opposite problem from MVP (who's TvP is weak).
So, I don't think Idra was as worried for Bomber as some think, but MC is a whole different batch of unfun for Idra. I can already guess he's going to 1-base cheese him 3 games in a row, which should be good fun.

Same In fact I nearly don't care about seeing MC play. Perhaps because I only play zerg and terran so I can't appreciate good protoss play. Well, I'm still excited about MC vs Idra games xD
The thing about MMA and Bomber is that MMA does really well in GSTL which I think is more suited to a MLG event. You are facing a series of competitors with little to no practice time against that opponent.
Also, MMA (and the rest of SlayerS right now) is playing really really good. Bomber might be better in TvT, but I don't know if I would say he is a better overall player.
Bomber winning a match against MMA doesn't make him better. As someone pointed out, Polt has beaten MC, but he is not better than MC.
This is kinda funny because in BW, this would have never happened. Pros had no motivation to leave Korea. Hopefully in the future, teams will be able to travel smoother because leaving Korea will become a regular thing.
I do hate the extra hoops US laws makes everyone jump through when you want to fly over there, but it's obviously Startale's responsibility to make sure all the formalities and technicalities are in order before sending your people over.
There was no problem sending Ace to Australia and Europe, so they probably assumed the US procedures were similarly accommodating (they're not. It's a total hassle in comparison to simple EU/SEA visits). Oh well. Startale's loss! MC and oGs are going to benefit from their negligence.

I do, that's why I know everyone was talking about Bomber in ecember*. He didn't qualify until this last time, then murdered his way through it. This isn't a knock against him, but it's still true he didn't make Code A his first run at it. So we haven't seen him in a LAN setting and we have seen MC win several already. This is why oGs sending MC makes a lot of sense (and MLG would want him anyway, plus he's out of the Super Tournament). LAN, Live Team League (winner's stays) and set-map Prepped matches are different beasts. You can't judge how someone is going to do by just their GSL results. He's still awesome, but Bomber is untested in this type of competition, especially with a HUGE travel component.
(You also missed the times I ran the Live Report threads for Code A & Code S )

Ya it actually frustrates me how stacked that and group B are, while D is by far the easiest. Then again I hate the MLG format all together. It favors the top seeded players far more than it really needs to. I am fine with giving them a bit of an advantage for their consistency... but I think it is just too much... it's really not even fair, especially when getting an "easy" group can launch you to an undeserving 6th place right away? Not a fan.

I also agree with this. July worked to get his spot, but then again if they did that MC probably wouldn't come. Personally I'd be fine with that, but I'm sure many people would not want that.
Regardless, hopefully all of the foreigners get a nice welcome, especially the koreans. I always love hearing about their response to foreign events.
Sucks that he isn't going to make it to Columbus, but at least he said in his twitter that he already has plans to try and make it to Anaheim instead. That and the fact that this is allowing MC to go and I couldn't be happier, really. I'm so excited to see MC in action this weekend! This was already such a stacked event and this just makes it that much more so.
shame bomber is missing out, would of loved to see him play!!!! But what a massive error not checking or knowing about the passport tilll a few days before leaving...
Man IdrA must be pissed, he's probably prepared for a ZvT the most seeing as Bomber was his first match, and a really tough one too, now suddenly he has to prepare a ZvP against possibly the best protoss in the world. On the other hand it makes for a really epic opening game ^^

if by this you mean MLG, you need to get your fact straight before posting. Its not MLG's fault, the fault is on team ST to let something silly like this happen.

Okay, so whose fault is it, MLG or Bomber or Startale? I would say that it's MLG fault because they invited him and that means that they have a responsibility for his stay and arrival. Startale which stood in contact with MLG has also a responsibility. Bomber should blame MLG and not his team (who would blame his own team?)

As quoted from the OP
"Bomber's passport is a regular passport but he and his team mistook it as an electronic passport, and did not register for proper visa."
Fault totally lies with Bomber and ST for not finding out the difference between electronic and regular passport.

It's entirely his and Startale's fault because they didn't apply for the visa thinking they didn't need it. It's sad, but mistakes happen.
I knew it. Go to sleep, wake up and some kind of super sick news has hit. The thing that's so stupid about this that they actually twittered yesterday that they we're going to the airport.
Boom, Losira and Bomber in taxi on the way to airport. Src: http://yfrog.com/h490347222j So that really sucks. Everyone was hyping him up and after watching him play vs Nestea yesterday I must say. His mechanics are rediculously tight. Like out of control crazy good. So was really excited to see him, what arguably will be, an endurance game of sorts. Many days, many matches. He definitely would've had a high chance to do very well. Guess that makes it easy for me though. I'll just gonna be rooting for MMA now <3 saranghae
I think the title should be changed to something like ST.Bomber unable to attend MLG because of visa issues instead of saying he missed a flight because that's not the determining factor.
but seriously, I was looking toward him or losira to take the tourney, this really blows and I'm quite surprised more action wasn't taken to ensure his travel plans were set in stone...
After his game with Nestea Bomber's TvZ in the GSL Supertournament was looking extremely strong vs best Zerg in the world. Such as shame we miss out on Idra v Bomber, but now its a ZvZ v July! Not a horrible consolation ^^

There is a fundamental flaw in your statement. Him being miles ahead is superficial. The quality of the players near him have drastically decreased which make it look like he got better, but in fact his skill should have dropped a bit due to the player pool around him.

Or the US embassy worker screw-up
Yep, clearly it's America's fault when someone doesn't know the difference between a "proper visa" and an "electronic passport".
Late last night, MLG was informed that Startale Bomber, one of the Korean pro players invited as part of the GSL/MLG League Exchange, would not be able to make his flight because of emigration problems he encountered while at the airport in Seoul. We are very sorry that Bomber will not be joining us in Columbus, and we are working to resolve the issue so that he can attend future Pro Circuit Events.
To fill the spot Bomber's absence has created in the roster and the Pools, MLG reached out to a player who we believed would be a spectacular addition to MLG Columbus, and we are very happy to announce that he, and his team, have accepted the offer. Attending in Bomber's place will be none other than oGsMC.
We share your disappointment that Bomber will not be attending, and we are greatly looking forward to his participation in future Pro Circuit Events. At the same time, we could not have asked for a better participant than MC. We'd like to thank him and all of oGs for agreeing to our offer on such short notice. MC will be taking Bomber's spot in Pool C; all schedules on the site will be updated to reflect this before the start of the Tournament on Friday.
I'm super disappointed that Bomber can't make it. We spent quite a while last night working with GSL and our contacts in Korea trying to find a way to get Bomber his exit visa. As I understand the issue, Bomber has an older passport which requires a paper application (as opposed to an electronic application) for an EXIT visa from the S. Korean government (NOTE: Not the US Gov't). Unfortunately, it takes 7 days to get this processed which is just too late for the event.
We're working to make sure that Bomber can come to a future MLG event and hope to welcome him soon.
God damnit. I saw this thread and had a clever "we'll he's st.bomber, no wonder airplane security stopped him." and then I spotted the response two posts above.
That sucks tho, but I feel that my heroes will do better now; Idra, MC and so on. Destiny, ait?

i guess you didnt read OP. They dont have time to make a proper Visa to get Bomber in Colombus in time so MC (already has a proper visa) takes his place.
Can someone explain this visa stuff that keeps preventing players from going to tournaments? Do you have to go through some bureaucracy if you're intending to make money in some countries or.. what?
man, I was SO SO SO looking forward to him being there, this is devastating news! seriously, ANYONE but Bomber!!!
MLG is dead to me now. Food will be as ash upon my tongue...
I don't know why but this made me laugh too hard.
Am I an evil person for being glad this happened, I have more invested in MC as a player from watching his games than in bomber so I would rather see him play.

Seems like such a stupid thing to miss.
I went to Miami last year from Europe, you have to make an online declaration (I guess he's done this) and have a biometric passport. I guess he had an old passport, non biometric, and didn't think to verify if this was allowed. And it isn't. And USA is not taking those things lightly, it's not like he can talk his way to USA explaining he made a mistake.edt : t clarify I don't think it's a visa issue as Korea should be like Shengen's Europe (=no need of a visa if you're going for tourist purpose)
The MLG Columbus Preview is genius. =) I love the section on Idra
Imagine you're IdrA. You are playing Startale's Bomber in the first broadcast match of MLG, on stage, in front of a huge crowd. You're practicing hard for this match and you're going to show your best stuff. Bomber is really skilled, but you're confident in your ZvT and ZvZ. You just hate Protoss because they are imbalanced. But a day or so before the match, you find out Bomber missed his flight. That's not so bad, it'll be a walkover or someone from the Open Bracket, both options way better than playing against Bomber.
Then the day of the tournament you walk into the venue and sit down to play some warmups in the booth. You look over and there's already someone in the other booth. He looks Korean. Dde? SeleCT? Who is it? You walk out of your booth and over to the other one. You open the door. "Hello?"
The chair slowly turns around. You see his face, but it can't be. He's not supposed to be here. Not him. Not a Protoss. Not THAT Protoss.

I thought regular passports were fine so long as they were machine readable (pinhole code at the bottom of the passport paper)? Travelling to the USA is so confusing these days.

Not registering the proper visa was the problem i think. Not the type of his passport.
OK but if you have an electronic passport does this mean you don't need to register for a visa? Maybe there is something lost here in the translation but if the normal passport had nothing to do with the issue then why mention it.
Bomber's passport is a regular passport but he and his team mistook it as an electronic passport, and did not register for proper visa.
Sadface, i was looking forward to seeing how he could perform in this event, very good alround player which is what's required to do well at an event like MLG.
really sucks, i would have loved to see him vs idra.

So you can only get a visa/get in to the US with e-passport.
Weird, because I do know quite a number of people who goes in-out of the US regularly, and they do have biometric-passports. However, everyone seems to have a printed version i.e. you still need to go through the normal process at the embassy that takes forever. I don't know about americans coming out, but for people going 'in', it seems to always be a printed one as I see. Biometric or not, that was sloppy on the manager part counting on a gamer to know about international emigrations.
Edit: as I understand, the electronics part of the passport for most countries does not goes beyond storing identification data. Visas haven't changed at all.
Also, Bomber is quite young, which means that passports issued for someone with his age should already be an ePassport, I don't think that was the source of the problem. Did he even started the registration process at all?

Weird, because I do know quite a number of people who goes in-out of the US regularly, and they do have biometric-passports. However, everyone seems to have a printed version i.e. you still need to go through the normal process at the embassy that takes forever. I don't know about americans coming out, but for people going 'in', it seems to always be a printed one as I see. Biometric or not, that was sloppy on the manager part counting on a gamer to know about international emigrations.
Edit: as I understand, the electronics part of the passport for most countries does not goes beyond storing identification data. Visas haven't changed at all.

As I understand it, to get into the US on the visa waiver program, you need a biometric passport if your passport was issued after October 2006. I'm assuming he has a passport that was issued after that date that is machine readable but is not biometric. That means he would need a visa to enter.
