removing your division rank is unnesscary if u dont want a rank play custom. blizzard has damaged the hardcore gamers that arent M or GM by removing loses so we are unable to see if we are plus or minus 50:50 which is a pretty important way of gauging how well we have done this season and if we improved form last season. you should be grateful they have done that for you players that care if poeple see how many loses u have.
Could ladder fear be hurting Starcraft 2? - Page 16

That being said I can relate to this fear. For me it is that you are afraid you will lose, obviously if you thought youd win every game you wouldn't be afraid to play. My little "trick" is to remind myself who I'm playing, I'm not playing MC,MVP,Nestea etc, i'm playing on NA ladder against average joes I just have to play less terrible then they do, even at 1550+ masters this works for me maybe if i started seeing GM people and getting stomped I'd be more afraid but this isn't the case for over 99.5% of people.

- remove loss display in all leagues to combat demotivation by weak players - the league-division system allows positive experience by as many players as possible - bonus pool and the subsequent points' inflation so players have the feeling that they grow constantly - achievements for extra incentive All of those are steps to combat ladder fear and I'd say that the situation is better than it was in sc:bw and wc3. However, blizzard certainly won't implent the option you suggest. They have made it pretty clear that they want as many people as possible to actually compete in the ladder (one of the reasons why they removed smurf accounts).

If the MMR is supposed to achieve 50/50 w/l, how will removing loss display combat demotivation? Since players will always hover around 40-60%? That doesnt make sense. bonus pool is a joke because someone who plays every day gets 130% gain from 50/50 win loss, while someone who plays every 4 days gets 200% gain for 50/50. the player that loses more points overall is the one who plays more consistently, so the person who plays less gets more points from the BP and keeps them. The bonus for not playing to keep up system works in WoW because you dont lose XP. In a game where you trade your points to and from other players consistently, bonus pools favor people who play less.

People like djWheat, Day9 & a lot of casters have it too, why wouldn't they at least play 2-3 games a day, no big deal ! But there's that fear of playing these 1s. That sucks !

The counter argument to this is "lol its just internet grow a spine", problem is many of us grew a spine when were in the military etc (those who went). It is not that people are offended at you calling them a fag or a retard, it is tired. The same insults for the past 10+ years of online gaming and its tired, its the same stuff, its not witty, funny or offensive. And because you cannot block all incomming chat, it makes laddering a cesspool, where you might bump into a good player who will just GG you and that will be that. But more often than not you will face the emoticon postin, meme spewing assclown. Whose main purpose in the game is to ruin it for others. If the option was there to block all incomming chat/text more people would ladder, afterall a big portion of the playerbase should not be forced to listen to you just because your self esteem is in the gutter and you have nothing else in life going other than being a douche on a livestream. Many people just want to play, its that simple, they dont want to talk to you, or listen to your stories, your flames, your opinions on last nights GSL games, your opinion on Idra, on how drunk and/or high you are, or how big of a penis you claim to have. Its not that you arent a interesting human being (you probably are in real life) but on the internet, many gamers tend to become absolute assclowns, having a option not having to deal with any of it would spike up interest for laddering. And those of you who enjoy shit slinging back and forth, you can just enable the chat and do it with likeminded people

Wheat has a "real" job (only way I had of expressing it, sorry if it offends you), Day9 has a smurf account that he plays on with friends and for practice, JP streams his ladder games every second night or so (that's when I see him online) and others play. They just usually don't stream it to the community.

Could anyone explain to me the details? It's pretty simple to work out... Just because it doesn't relate to you doesn't mean its hard to work out. Playing any game competitively is going to get you stressed out... And plus theres the constant fear of having a bad day and getting knocked down to a lower league. Most people would much prefer to play customs.

Knowing you're going to lose is just as much weight-off-your-shoulders as knowing you're going to win. One time I played Justin Wong in SF4. He steamrolled me, obviously, but I played as well as I ever have. It was a blast. Players should play for fun, education, or both. Not for ego.

Most people would much prefer to play customs. I guess... but it's not like there's any real stakes involved in laddering. Sure, points are kind of like stakes, but they aren't anything tangible. Maybe enough to get frustrated over, but afraid? That seems a little extreme to me. I guess I just don't get it.

I like the laddering thing, least it gives me a sense of accomplishment when I win and at the same time feel a sense of shame when I lost. Makes playing matches seem meaningful imo
