Way too much niggas 'n shit for StarCraft man.. It's a pretty civilized and quite highclass game, not a subject for gangsta-rap. NerdAlert and Husky are doing it the way it's supposed to be done, so that it's funny, not a hardcore nigga killing gangstarap yo!
When compared to the great songs in the SC2 community such as the good ol' Terran OP or the recent Fly like Aiur, this doesn't even come close to those.
Perhaps expectations are high because of what terrific musicians have done in the past, but one way or another, I was disappointed.

Perhaps I was a little harsh. I dont mean to hold it to the standard of the very best, but for him to claim it's a dope track is either severely misguided or a straight troll :p
i've lost all "vibe" or respect for modern raps with "nigga that, nigga this, shit, blah blah" gangsta rap. it was dope with NWA, it was crazy dope with tupac and biggie. now its just no where, at least for me.
write some clean and witty stuff, get rid of that gangsta style tone and i think you'll get some positive response
dont mind me though, 99% of hiphop i still listen to is pre-2000 so my views may be biased.
It's terrible, cringed while watching. Is this what this new generation of MTV gangsta rap has done to the lyrics, flows and samples? Was going through my head. I would take a step back, and give your stuff a new look after watching some classic hip hop that makes you cry because it's so poetic. And try to not cam acting up. It's about the music, nobody cares if you imitate TV.
It's definitely not terrible. I've got a few suggestions on things to improve, but I don't know what Lennon is about. 1. The background music is too 'background' What you need to do in my opinion is record the vocals track and mix it in post production. So you have the music, play that in your earphones as you rap and record the voice track. Then afterwards you mix both tracks together with an audio editing software (no clue what the good ones are sorry). Do this and I think your sound improves a hundredfold. 2. I'm not a fan of the unnecessary "bitches" and such. I don't mind a good one dropped in context (nuke yo mother splinging base for example). But when they're just there for free they turn me off.
The vocabulary is decent, but could have more depth, and more specifically more Starcraft references. Still, decent work. GG

And you have flow, sure, and the rhythm was consistently on-beat. But the lyrics are mundane, obscene, and don't really pertain to the game. There was a rap a week or two back about 3 ambitious units (baneling, zealot and marine?) that was a lot more clever. You could learn from that.
And stop using swear words and attitude as a front to dismiss all the criticism, you're pretty transparent.

and to kristiS: Yes but unlike most people, I think starcraft is gangster. I don't see it so much as high class and fancy and whatnot. I think its just the coolest game ever haha. I think its THE GAME. Lol... played brood war for years and starcraft II is the only game I play now. =P

no offence but the production wasn't that great and it caused your voice to sound a bit high, and painful for my ears, the lyrics are ok, but you might want to get a better mic or something
Thanks to all your responses so far. Okay okay, that was only rap #1. I've written raps with less cursing (for example in one song I say "shit" only twice, thats it)
And yeah, those other raps reference StarCraft so much better. I agree. I really did this one for fun though. It's all for enjoyment and laughter, I don't see why other people so offended by it lol. I'm a rapper and I curse so what haha. But yeah I agree it is excessive in that particular rap.
I'll update this thread with my next raps. I'll post a good old one I wrote tomorrow. It's my protoss rap ^^;

Heres my honest opinion, you do have a lot of potential to rap, but this is like gutter gutter, low life bassically "i'ma kill you and sell drugs, fuck ur bitch, and do w/e the fuck i want cuz im a badass" type of rap, I think you need to think harder about your rhymes and not just say curse words, and starcraft all the time, if you really want to take your rapping or starcraft rapping to the next level then actually use word play instead of trying to sound hard by cursing. Other than that the way you made some words rhyme was pretty good. Keep it up but seriously, work on your word play and don't just curse a lot to try to sound ' hard ' or cool.

Wanna know whats so great about rap? It's the only genre where you can just freestyle and literally write whatever the hell you want to write. It's so expressive. With other music it's more like you're writing lyrics. But with rap you can just feel free to write whatever you want. So I like to write raps about StarCraft. Haha. I have and use Fruity Loops Studio, I can make mp3's no problem. I just need a good mic really... I'll do my best to come up with the money to get this new mic.

I just love rap in general. So I'd honestly listen to any artist and still enjoy it. As long as there's good beat and the rapper is flowin I'd listen to it and like it.
Some artists that I like are: Tupac (he's so dope), Bone Thugs, Atmosphere (he raps some real shit), Vinnie Paz (if you dont know him check him out he's real good underground), Papoose (he's goes so hard, this guy is sick), Roy Jones (Some of his songs are really hard for example "Can't be touched"), Wow... I don't know man. I just dont consider my attitude to be gangster. In all honesty I just vibe and feel the music of rap. Doesn't mean I'm gangster-like. I see why other people would think that. They think rap and they think gangster. I dont got guns. I dont live in the hood. I'm not gangsta at all. I just dig rap and feel it's dopeness. However, I do agree that statement could be said about the "Nuke You" rap. The first one.
The protoss build order one is not gangsta at all. That's how all my other starcraft raps are.

Look. Confidence is VERY important for rap. If you're confident you will end up sounding right. I'm confident and I rapped fine in that video. And yes I think I'm good. Other people (that heard me in real life say i'm good all the time) which is what led me to think I'm good. So yeah. I hope you get that.

Yeah I'll work on the production quality. But for now this is all I can do. At least you can hear the rap itself so that's good.
I didn't like it, but it's probably because I never liked rap. However, anything that is done for the community has my support and if rapping is your thing, keep doing it and I'm sure lots of community members will enjoy it Keep it up!

If someone is spittin and he got a beat going I'll listen. And I'll actually listen to what he says in the rap too. The raps I wrote have good lines. It's entertaining as fuck.

Ok yeah. I hope in the near future I'll have the means of getting equipment to increase the video and audio quality. I agree it could be better. But right now its still fine. It's still listenable.

1) That slow nursery rhyme style you're currently using sounds bad to me. You need to work on the speed of your flow and give it variety so it isn't the same predictable slow rap. Rappers who use this style sound like they're trying to talk while running up a steep hill.
2) The lyrics are too "gangsta", generic and meaningless. Too many rappers use the same curse words. It's especially not going to appeal to teamliquid. Increase your vocabulary. Read a thesaurus or something.

Some of the comments on this thread that you dismiss as trolls are legit even if the peeps who posted it are not great at communicating.
First: Your rhyme structure is pretty basic. I think this is a legitimate complaint, though at time you mix it up and use some more complex structures (e.g. "I'm swearing, I'm cursin' but I really a nice person"). I think that the UVic guy has a great grasp of different rhyme structures. In my personal rap preference I think Eminem is a great example of this. Try fooling around with different types of rhyme and fall back on basic rhyme schemes less often. I think this will make your raps more dope.
Second: Some of your vocabulary is also pretty simple. I mean this in two ways. The use of nigger/bitch/shit/fuck/etc as parts of rhymes just as filler makes the rhymes seem simple and not well thought out. I'm not complaining about the swears... I like them actually... but they have to be there for a reasons... not just to fill a line or rhyme with something earlier. Also try to drop in crazier words into your raps... More complicated vocabulary makes the rap seem more sophisticated.
Third: Just keep producing and trying to improve. I can tell from your freestyle that you have the skillz to pull off some dope shit and I'd like to see more and watch you improve.

Just because it's a rap doesn't excuse it for being incendiary and hate-filled. Such speech should not be said lightly -- and *is not* within a respectable community. I agree with this post, you say you take criticism, but when infact, when most of us tell you somethign that has problems you go to the "if you can do it better" or you dont know this cuz you dont like rap. Honestly, i find your "raps" really offensive, and yeah a lot of people say things they dont think, but when you post it onto TL, and on youtube, people done know who you are, and all we know is what you put up.
The video about responding to haters/trollers, did you seriously need to get someone to say "yeah hes a good rapper" because that just seems sad to need to get someone to say you're good. The people who determine an artist is good isn't the artists themselves, but their audience, the people who listen to it. If you check your videos, you can see the ratio of likes to dislikes, i can sit here all day and argue im the best sc player in the world, when im not, and even if i think that, am i really the best? no. You can think you're the best, and be defensive all you want, but in the end, its not for you to judge how good your rapping is, its the rest of the community, because you decided to share your raps with everyone else.

This is an awful lyrically... "ram you in the butt" makes you sound like a 5th grader and you went immediately from the tanks being sieged up to moving which creates a disconnect in your lyrics
3. (This isn't a question just criticism) It is hard to express in words a criticism of flow. My attempt would be that good flow makes lines that are too long or too short for the beat of the song sound right effortlessly. When you have a line thats too long or too short you can immediately tell because when you are too short you either add filler words that are completely unnecessary in the nuke you (i.e. all the niggas and cursing) or you elongate words and pauses in protoss rap (like you betttttttter believe). This all causes me to notice your poor lyrical structure which shouldn't happen if you had good flow.
*edit: It looks like the only valid types of criticism you want to hear sound something like "yo man this is dope but i couldn't hear you well enough" or "man that rap was tight but your quality of sound is all messed up" or "you got potential but you need to put more production into your raps"
btw rapping while getting a haircut and walking around and in a cypher doesnt make you a rapper nor does it make you good... I think you need to let the people you claim love your rapping do the talking for you... you think real rappers get deals and fans by telling everyone how great they are. No they drop mixtapes and create a following so that someone big will hear them and bring them into the limelight... they may rap about how amazing they are but if they dont live up to that standard they will be disregarded

I don't think all the "hate" is directed at your music per se, but rather the way you've been conducting yourself throughout this thread - especially how you've treated the other posters in the thread.

what this thread really reminded me of is when a contestant enters american idol and he/she gets shut down with a heavy criticism from simon cowell. he/she then gets mad because he/she KNOWS he/she is good at singing and can't understand why simon would talk so much shit. then there are those who'd claim "hey, he/she wasnt so bad!"
i feel unfortunately for modern hiphop industry but at the same time, i understand this is a different time and the newer generation's taste in hiphop is changing. to that end, i have no complaints of your style however, as Thetan pointed out, dont be arrogant, instead try to be humble though it may not fit your gangster image.

Again, you're implying that anyone that *doesn't* like your music doesn't actually enjoy rap, and that's insulting to the people that *do* like rap but *don't* like your music. Music is a personal thing - tastes differ widely from person to person, even within genres. If you seriously believe that *every* rap fan out that WILL enjoy your rap, that not *one* serious rap fan will think your work is "terrible"...that's not confidence dude. That's straight up arrogance.
And trust me. The quality of your work is not good enough to live up to such arrogance. I wouldn't call it bad - I would say what you've done is good for an amateur who does this as a hobby. But it's "terrible" compared to the works of artists like Tupac - and I (as well as most other rap fans) would be appalled if you disagreed with this.

what this thread really reminded me of is when a contestant enters american idol and he/she gets shut down with a heavy criticism from simon cowell. he/she then gets mad because he/she KNOWS he/she is good at singing and can't understand why simon would talk so much shit. then there are those who'd claim "hey, he/she wasnt so bad!"
i feel unfortunately for modern hiphop industry but at the same time, i understand this is a different time and the newer generation's taste in hiphop is changing. to that end, i have no complaints of your style however, as Thetan pointed out, dont be arrogant, instead try to be humble though it may not fit your gangster image.

LoL! That "freestyle" against destiny was designated to be bad. It was a troll freestyle purposely to annoy Destiny's stream. Misconception that came up when I was beating bonnell ;p. If he can record something halfdecent I'll respond ;p.
