Nevertheless, it's great to see this cooperative program between MLG and GSL. I was excited to hear what all the rumblings and rumors would amount to, and I'm pleasantly pleased to see this system in place. It's always awesome to get Koreans competing in foreign leagues and foreigners competing in Korean leagues, thus bridging the entire scene together one game at a time.

But , in practice, I'm a bit dubious about how this will all work out. What if the foreign players selected for code S/A don't want to spend their time in Korea playing the GSL ? Several foreign players have already stated on numerous occasions that they are not really interested in playing the GSL (cause playing in it means you're basically forced to stay in Korea and have little time for other tournaments). What about the Korean (players and viewers) reactions about this ? Iirc, they were not really happy when some foreign players where automatically seeded into code A and I'm not sure they'll like it either (I can understand them). The fact that the MLG tournament structure is flawed and gives an unfair advantage to seeded players won't really help convincing people that selected players really deserve to play in the GSL either. I'm also wondering about how the up/down matches will work with the fact code S can be given to a player not in the GSL formerly. It should be answered soon though. Yeah, there's a lot of negativity in this post but well, someone had to do this ![]() I don't think foreign players will deny Code S spots if their expenses are paid (remember you're guaranteed 1.5k USD at least). And I'm assuming that GSL/MLG will pass the Code A spot to the next person in rank should the player above him decline. Either that or GSL will just add another qualification spot for Code A (there are 16 spots to be filled). The only problem here is how they run the Up/Down matches. Korean netizens will definitely disapprove if a foreigner is seeded directly into Code S. And I feel this might disadvantage Koreans a little bit, particularly the fringe Code A/B players. I think that the partnership is looking very bright though and we shouldn't really be worried bout the technicalities till problems actually occur.

The list of Koreans that will go to Columbus is a bit disappointing though.

The difference is that the requirements for code A invites before were basically A. Be a foreigner B. Be physically present at the qualifiers. There weren't enough foreigners playing to be really selective. Now you have to do well in a really hard tournament with some top Koreans in it. It's comparable to the Code A qualifiers, now

I can't see that being too much of a problem really, I doubt there are many players who would turn down an all expenses paid to Korea for a month to play in GSL. The financial hit and extended stay is probably what would have been putting people off before, but neither of those are issues if it's paid for and starts at just 1 month. They could choose to leave at any time, just like idra did. What about the Korean (players and viewers) reactions about this ? Yeah this I would wonder more about, but the GSL world tournament we've already had seems to have been received pretty well. I guess we'd just have to wait and see how people react to them, a lot will depend on how well they do ![]()
