I'm sorry, was anyone from France you mentioned other than Stephano supposed to be good? I have never been impressed with Adel's play, ToD seems really hit or miss to me, and Sarens/MoMaN, while good GM ladder players, are nowhere near the elite of this game.
It's funny, in this quest to find the best players of each country (and improve our national ePeen) we forgot the most important aspect; choosing players who are actually good.
Naming players with essentially zero legitimate tournament results is a waste of time. Every country has dozens of them. Shit, Canada has me. I haven't won anything yet, but I'm great, trust me. I just need to get over my stage game fright.
I'm shocked this thread is still open. Sweden wins. Canada , USA, and maybe Ukraine bring up the rear. I value being in Code-S pretty much higher than the other results. Jinro, HuK, and IdrA earned their way there, and have all at one point or another succeeded. Then add Naniwa, Sase, Thorzain, and Morrow. Then add all the good players that aren't code-s level (thinking HayprO).
Why do we bother with this?

This thread is doomed to fail. Everyone knows the top tier players, but when we get into the second tier, we tend to know the players from our region better than those of the rest of the world. I think the France vs Canada debate is a pretty good example of this.

What did you expect? This topic will never disappear.
The funny thing is a lot of the nations that have done well for themselves in the past are still amongst the top nations now. It will always be redundant.
There are very few top players out there. The divide is there even with all the volatility of the game and it will continue to change.

Stephano is overrated for what he has achieved I guess? He basically won 2 tourneys and is by some considered better than the likes of HuK and such, although they have constantly show that they are Top Tier for over a year now.
Slush is underrated, because what he achieved during his MLG runs was way more impressive than most of us actually can comprehend.
I'm really not saying that either one of them is "rated" wrong, but that's just how people see it.
Let Slush win a tourney in the future, let Stephano show his awesome play for some more months and both statements will be proven wrong.
I think there should be 2 Top 5s.
One that consideres only the Best Player of each nation and one that consideres more than just 2 or 3 ppl, because there are vast differences.
I personally would say that Stephano is better than any of the current German players, but the German team is well balanced and I'd consider them better than a team of French players. But in all honesty... It would depend on the form of the day.
Only thing that can be said with 100% is that as a team Sweden would be nearly unbeatable, though any other country could all-kill them with their ace-player at his best.
Also, why is there even a dispute between France and Canada now? Aren't they the same? j/k.

I'd put US above Germany. To me Canada and the US are a wash. Aside from an elite player or two, the rest of their rosters are filled out with solid, but not great players.
