it's crazy to see how overrated germany is. they have only 2 good players, socke and darkforce. russia has titan, brat_ok, and happy which imo is better than the german lineup.

I'd say:

1. Sweden
2. Poland
3. Ukraine
4. France
5. Russia

The US isn't in the top 5 imo. Idra and sheth are good, and you have some rising stars like gatored (who has beaten koreans lately), but their other players aren't very good.

Sweden is really good, but America has quite a few good players as well (not as prominent anymore I guess) so I'll go with Sweden.

Some of the countries are absolutely similar in quality to how they were in WC3, especially Sweden (Quite a few powerhouses, and lots of good unknown players), Germany (Insane amount of decent players, but no world beaters) and France (One very good player, the rest only half-decent (Only reflects the last period though, the ToD+FaTC+Wolf trio was pretty impressive).

I don't really see how anyone can pick Ukraine over Sweden, top 3 ukraine vs sweden is pretty equal, but Sweden's top 10 >>> Ukraine.

Are you seriously saying that HasuObs isnt good?
Holy check.

You forgot HasuObs.

HasuObs? Top-4 @ IEM, TSL; reached NASL-Grandfinal twice, won TES, UGC, Northcon. Not a ThorZain, or a Stephano but definitly a favorite against most of Russia´s players. You already mentioned socke and darkforce, but Delphi, Xlord or Goody are not that bad either. Nobody said, that germany is on the same level as Ukraine or Sweden, but they are quite good as well.

This thread is funny, bunch of kids bashing on the US and claiming it "my opinion on player skill" pretty funny.

Hasu and Socke alone are better than pretty much every US player, I dont know why people rate the US so high just because Idra is American?

The focus is on Sweden and Ukraine, when people mention US on top, that's when people start to "bash" the US. I wouldn't even call it bashing, since it's mostly true...

This ofc isn't perfect either. MorroW quite clearly seems better than Bischu and Hasu than roof etc but I guess it is still better than just guessing

Edit: Whoops dunno what happened to France they take last place anyway

Im not sure how strong the Chinese or Taiwanese scene is in general, so I cant comment on that.

But for a top 5 I would say

1. Sweden (So many good players, SaSe, NaNiwa, ThorZaIN, SjoW, Morrow. Plus a couple of decent players like LaLush, Jinro and Haypro)
2. Ukraine (Barely beats Poland with players like White-Ra, Kas, DIMAGA and Strelok)
3. Poland (Also a lot of good players like Nerchio, MaNa, Tarson and DieStar)
4. USA (Not many top tier players, only a few like IdrA and Sheth, but a lot of players with great potential like Tyler, Gatored, Minigun, Axslav and qxc)
5. Russia & Germany (Seems to be the only nations with a decent amount of top players other than the first 4 (maybe you can count Canada & France in) but they seem pretty even)

I was thinking the same thing. Sweden still seems to be in the top, and WhiteRa/Dimaga/Kas really represent Ukraine well.

On the topic of China... There are at least 3 Chinese players in the top 200 of the korean ladder that I know of, and maybe a few that I don't under smurfs. Xigua is consistently top 30 GM in Korea.

There aren't many pro players in China, but the ones that are pro are definitely capable of making Code A.

For reference, Destiny is 150th on Korean ladder, Naniwa maxed out at rank 6 and is now rank ~50 due to lag with his setup, Sen is ~40, Jinro is ~50, Stephano is ~20-30 when he plays. This is definitely not be-all end-all, as ladder really doesn't show who is going to win tournaments, but is without a doubt the best gauge of average skill and consistency that we have.

Speaking of Sen, I don't understand why no one even considers Taiwan. Taiwan has a bustling scene with, Sen Hui Slam and a few others consistenly within top masters in Korea. Even luway, an amateur female gamer, placed in NA GM in season 3 with a ladder record of 70-10 or something like that. Taiwan has 5 teams in the pro circuit, with many members fully capable of surviving in Code A.

For reference mOOnGLaDe has been GM in korea every season but last one and just before WCG finals he was top 100 master with something like a +70% winrate, and there were many other foreigners in or around the top 100. iSInsur, xGKingIaguz, SEn, Major was aswell and many more
