Sounds like Garfield is just mad that some of his thunder got stolen because his organization sucks at keeping a lid on inside info.

If he was reaching some audience that otherwise wouldn't be seeing it, then it would not matter in the least if he waits until EG posts their announcement. He's not. He gets views from Reddit and TL who go to his Gamespot, people who would have gone to the team website instead. The more successful his articles are, the more Gamespot is pleased with their investment, the more likely they will be to expand their eSports coverage, to further invest in it, to potentially to spread it to many who are unfamiliar with it. Slasher getting hugely successful eSports articles on huge gaming sites like Gamespot is fantastic for everyone involved in the industry. Even if Alex is too short sighted to see it.

Does anyone think for a second that he would be getting this worked up about it if it weren't HIS information being leaked? And justifying it by resorting to the old "killing esports" as if that and his own interests are one and the same. That's exactly what I was thinking. EGAlex is only concerned about the bottom line, just like anyone else who's making a living. It seems that in spite of the preface by DJWheat, Slasher was set up pretty hardcore, though he's probably had many chances to prepare counterarguments. Everyone on EG is operating on the basis that something needs to change, and Slasher isn't. All EGAlex can do is say why things would work better his way, but it ultimately puts Slasher on a leash. Alex's jabs at Slasher's work is lower than I expected. Lol the "bridge is burnt". Another EG bullying--this time by the big boss.

Well if Alex actually offered an exclusive interview with JD and Slasher never got back to him, and instead leaked the news, then Slasher really fucked up imo.

One thing that wasn't said, the value that a journalist does bring,is somewhat more unbiased reporting than press releases from the direct sources. Slasher may be rough around the edges but his reporting is much less biased than most official information released by teams such as EG..

What is there even to discuss? You can't have a real discussion when 4/5 people there are blatantly in favor of one position because of their jobs.. it was 99% 1 on 1 discussion as alex said for his players to keep there mouths shut....

A lot of Slasher's leaks/news releases are in the form of quick snippets or single line tweets with absolutely no context, no relevant information, no history, no back-story, or even anything that shows the slightest amount of research or care about the information he's been given. In many ways, he's like that guy posting "First" on every single article, who cares more about what order he's in than writing/speaking about engaging, interesting content...and frankly, that's unacceptable for anyone in any kind of writing job.

You can go on and leak everything you hear, you get attention this way, but when nobody else profits from this you lose your sources and your fucked earlier or later

I would agree with this. Slasher's answer was "I didn't need it, only wanted the news", so it sounds like that's what happened to me. Journalists can get a lot of publicity by doing interviews, opinion pieces, and by doing actual work. Simply leaking news is the lowest thing a journalist can do.
