But I have a magical train of thought to follow. In traditional sports, this isn't as much of an issue because information is more tightly restricted and more legally protected. This implies that teams like EG should do a better job controlling this information and contractually prevent it from being disclosed. However, the Esports industry is not big enough for that to happen. Teams do not have the finances to have a legal team monitoring and prosecuting people that break NDAs. EG cannot afford to legally protect this information (and other teams certainly can't either). If Starcraft was enormous like the NHL or NFL, people like Slasher wouldn't be able to break the news like he does. He can because Esports is small, and I think that is telling. I think Journalists shouldn't be leaking things that are already BEING ANNOUNCED down the road. They are supposed to be providing information that the viewers can't access. In sports or international politics or in any other field. Sometimes it feels like he is directly cutting in line to steal viewers from teams. He is generating views by jumping the gun on announcing something that is already going to be announced. The viewer is still going to get the same information, but the views are going to slasher that would normally all go to the team. The content is paid for by organizations like the team, and slasher gets views for it a few days before the team would've. However, if Slasher isn't doing it, someone else will. Slasher is not the real enemy here, and that should be kept in mind.

A team union against Slasher? So teams say you will play by our rules or else we won't have our players, staff, etc talk with you? So we're heading toward news from the teams/companies only, no press. Because the press isn't allowed to do anything without the consent of the teams. Journalism (sports especially) needs to walk a fine line between working with teams because both sides need a healthy relationship, but also need to be able to report on things that the team might not like, for example a team with poor conditions/not paying their players.

And that's the basis for Alex's annoyance, that he isn't getting the biggest slice of the pie. That doesn't support your "he's getting views for ESPORTS on Gamespot!" argument, though. If he was reaching some audience that otherwise wouldn't be seeing it, then it would not matter in the least if he waits until EG posts their announcement. He's not. He gets views from Reddit and TL who go to his Gamespot, people who would have gone to the team website instead.

It didn't help EG. That's what he means. He is being completely self-centered here but calling Slasher the selfish one. Now threatening to ban his players from doing interviews with Slasher? Holy shit I can't believe what I'm hearing. "Get Gamespot to pay for you to go to Korea and get the sloppy seconds". Yeah that would go down well.

But Slasher is being a little bitch about it. He has the nerve to bring in the Sports vs Esports journalism argument.. Nothing in actual sports gets leaked the teams give out the general information out AFTER teams announce things. Its something he doesn't understand. YES your suppose to report stuff but do it AFTER like every other journalist does. Team Liquid reports stuff from other teams AFTER said team has announced something. Then writers go about writing about it. NOT this stupid bullshit of "oh I'm going to steal the fame BEFORE the team/player makes the announcement public". Slasher stop being a fucking selfish child. Your excuses about being a journalist is a fucking joke and is making yourself and every journalist look bad. REPORT SHIT AFTER ITS BEEN ANNOUNCED BY SAID TEAM OR PLAYER LIKE EVERY OTHER GOD DAMN JOURNALIST IN REAL SPORTS IF YOU BRING UP THIS COMPARISON YOU FUCKING CHILD User was warned for this post
