I've been playing around lately with a new opening that Spanishiwa introduced to the world and I'm ...really having a hard time losing with the follow-up I bring to the table(yes, even against Protoss).
I start with a very, very late hatch (17) into a very, very late pool (17-18) into 4 queens/4-5 spines (depending on what they have).
I keep expanding, get 3/3 melee as fast as I can along with overlord speed/drop capabilities. Keep creep spread all across the map as much as possible (6-8 tumours).
Unit composition is entirely ultralisks, zerglings, and banelings (with a back-up hydra den in your base in case air is present).
The idea with this build is you can let him do whatever the hell he wants to.
You can play this style completely blind when it comes to your enemy's expansions and army composition.
The idea is that the majority of your army is going to be banelings. Your suicide bombers coupled with heavy ultra tanks and many upgraded lings will absolutely destroy any ground army.
Knowing your army is compromised mostly of banelings, your supply is going to drop. This instantly leaves you with as much room for as many types of units as you want to follow up in the attack.
If he has a lot of voids - no matter, your ground army will rape whatever expansions he has (usually that's where the fight takes place, because you're going to bring it to him with as best of a surround as you can get).
He will struggle and try to save his base wailing away on a million zerglings/5-6 ultras while in the mean time you're making 40 hydras at your base to stream in - game over.
If anyone has any questions/comments about the replays, I'll be watching this thread.

Melee Zerg Style Replay Pack
Enjoy - more to come.
More ZvP and ZvT Two portrayals of how to stop it (granted one was a close-by-ground reaction).
Melee Zerg Style Replay Pack 2
**Note: the Rottenpotato games are of a lot higher quality opponents.

Sounds interesting. Is this only ZvP?
|
Is this a strategy replay pack for playing against Protoss? That's the way the post makes it sound. How do you deal with early all-in play?
|
So how do you deal with any sort of midgame attacks before you have ultras out ZvP? Any halfway decent P is going to have a field day with force fields if you're going full ling baneling straight to ultras. How do you not die to 2 rax with 17 hatch 17/18 pool? He's going to have 3 marines at your nat before your pool even finishes, how are you ever supposed to stop him from getting the bunker up? How do you deal with 2 fac tank TvZ? He's going to hit you before you can get ultras out.
|
The replay pack is both ZvT and ZvP. I play the same exact style in both matchups.
Once you have both bases saturated you need to get ling speed/banes/t2(and hop to t3 as soon as you can).
There's a point at maybe ~9-10 minutes where you're going to need to get about 20 banes out/more lings to protect in case things heat up.
Other than that...it's droning all the way to 80supply or higher.
Edit: There are a couple games in there with bunker rushes, 2 rax(I think I put a 2rax in there?), a 1zealot 1stalker timing push, etc. I think one guy even went reapers into banshees (I had to sacrifice my natural (all drones included) so he wouldn't touch my hydralisk den two feet away).
You need to be scouting and you need to pull drones to deal with bunkers.

Its nice to see less QQ and more trying shit out by zerg players. Cheers!

this isnt a new strat it was popular first month of live made popular by dimaga(similar, big difference is a later hatch)...and then prot learned what ff was and stopped 4 gating

How do you deal with mass air transitions (like triple stargate off of 2 base) when you have 3+ bases to defend and you have lots of dead weight in ling/baneling? I've found that ling/baneling into ultra is really bad against VR/mass Phoenix because you are basically forced to turtle, which is not a good then when you are trying to do an aggressive move like baneling drops/ultras

I don't play aggressively at all. I defend until I'm supply capped or I see an amazing opening. When I'm capped is when I start looking to get as much of a concave/bane drop onto his army/suicide my army onto his.
I always have a hydra den on the side in case something like mass air happens. It doesn't, but it's there.
I've had 6-8 phoenixes run and harass me before and it really does next to nothing. You run around your massive 3-4 bases with 6 queens, lose a lot of drones, rebuild them in two seconds.
The time/money your opponent takes to make phoenixes is lost really, really fast.
Keep in mind you are literally flowing in minerals as well. If you aren't comfortable, throw down a few extra spines/spores. It doesn't hurt one bit.

I like it! watched all the replays. Can you upload more against Protoss. Id be interested to see how you play your ZvZ's as well but mostly i want to see more toss games.
|
This really belongs in the Strat forum since its basically showcasing a build/opening. I'd also watch assumptions but besides from that everything looks kinda nice.

I'll play some more tomorrow and upload another pack.
As for ZvZ...well, my ZvZ outright horrible.

i've been doing the same for a while but i died to many midgame timing pushes, as well as struggled vs air so i went back to my normal play, though i wanna try it again
|
I updated the OP with another replay pack (7 games I think?)
Rottenpotato games' opponents are of a lot higher caliber.

The replays are cool; I'm especially impressed with how far behind in supply you are sometimes, and the opponents' armies still melt to mass baneling. I guess it's a more efficient unit per supply than roaches. I'm definitely going to try this style out a bit.

The thing is you're only making drones for basically the first half of the game and banes are only half a supply each.
It's a wonderful thing
