So I've been thinking about this. The most best environment to improve your play is to play with friends or practise partners. Right?

Better still if you can sit down with some buddies in the same geographical location (say, at someone's appartment, in your mom's basement) and just hang out and play StarCraft 2 a bunch. It helps to be around StarCraft players and talk about the game, or just mess around with it, moreso then by doing this across the internet.

Unfortunately, most of my friends don't play SC2, or don't like playing it competitively. I'd like to get in touch with some guys who do, and who just want to watch a GSL finals together, or just play some games and hang out.

Is there a way to find such people? Surely the internet, and teamliquid in particular, could offer a way for people to find other StarCraft players in their area to get together with? Does it exist? Should it exist? What should something like that look like?

In the "High School Starcraft Team League" thread, I noticed quite a bit of people who lack local players(such you ,OP) and they were just questioning if anyone lived near. Quite a bit of the players found people nearby and formed a team with them. Idk if you're in high school(i'm assuming so) but check that thread out. If you're not in high school, check out the CSL. If you're not in college,.. well you're probably out of luck.

Tell me about it.... My friends want to play 2v2s or 3v3s or custom games like zealot frenzy or some shit. I hate that stupid game. But yeah, 1v1s are just out of the question. They must hate losing more than I do, its like its too much pressure to play with someone 1v1 so they'd just rather avoid it.

Time to start my starcraft 2 social networking empire, brb.

btw if you go to college there's probably tons of nerds that play at most schools, you could put up a bulletin like people do for various other clubs for people to contact you.

I read this and couldn't help thinking about the adds that show up on facebook and google. Meet hot singles in your area today! lol.

But on topic, try the community forum or blogs, posting your area and that you're looking to start a player group or whatever, good luck.

Well personally i really never had this problem due to a huge gathering of friends/clanmates who all love and play SC2.

The best thing that personally ive found was having tournaments in your area/state. I know for me in michigan, i cant tell you how many people ive met through tournaments already in about 4-5 months worth of tournaments.

32 players usually around the area come out to either Ann arbor, rochester, East lansing, and now Grand rapids next weekend, its a good time and you start meeting people around the area who all play/enjoy Starcraft 2.

I think michigan is one of the bigger states for SC2 right now to best honest, we have at least one event every other weekend and its growing rapidly.
Lol Rly?

In the Community forums I found this thread: TL User Locations

I got my name/location added at least, but I think there's still a lot of people who might not have seen this. I think it's a pretty good initiative to see where about everyone is.

Also, that TL user Google Maps thing seems to have suffered a technical limitation (a limit on the # of locations you can have) but perhaps this could be a resource implemented in TL itself? Though... the simple list of users and locations works as well.. it's just a little underused at the moment.

Maybe the TL User Location thread could be spotlighted? Just brainstorming here

i dont think there is anyone in my area who plays sc2, at least at a good level. my firends have always questioned why i play starcraft back when i was playing sc1. they would say shit like "its butt ugly" or "its as old as your mum". so i pretty much went through school playing sc1 while all my firends played other stuff like cod4 and ass's creed. they told me to play some fps so i took up quake live and got pretty good at it( 40%~ rail =) only to have the same comments thrown at me >.< now that sc2 came out they no longer go on about how the graphics suck but they have began to critisise my micro cos they all play dota... now they stuff like " its way harder to micro 1 unit" and "i got 100 apm in dota bitch" >.<

I havent met anyone who plays at least gold +, everyone here plays Dota, CS and consoles. well I play CS from time to time but these kids here are so BM ! and play only with aimbot or wh and say its just more fun with it...
also Its sad when ppl in your class think that you play SC2 because you can handle yoestick and kick ass in ass's creed brotherhood.

+ Kind of funny / sad story
+ Show Spoiler +
- Few days ago I was listening to my 2 class mates talking about their tactics in clan wars and how angry can get kids after they own em. I didnt want to interrupt em so i just kept listening. But when one of them said: I finally get promoted so when i get back home i have to start farming my points again.
So I said Congratulations man what league are you in ?
They just look at me so confused and said league ?
I said: Yea league, bronze, silver gold you know.
he said: Ou you mean prestige. its 5th now !

I'm blessed to have a close group of friends who all play at Diamond/Masters level. It's absolutely helpful to fostering a good mindset and a good playing environment.

I also have this problem. Only 1 of my friends has played SC 2 and his thoughts were that 1v1 is stupid and team games are the thing were all skills are measured (maybe cause he plays wow arenas all the time) Every other friend plays HoN CS or CoD. I dont hate CoD that much but it's still quite boring, HoN i've never understood and i find it very boring CS i suck at xD
My town is also quite small and i've never met any SC players nor heard anyone talking about it
The game is not about having fun; it is about stopping as many other people as you can from having fun. That’s the only thing that really matters. As well as being pro.

i got a buddy in my school who plays sc2 (he started about 1 week later than me), and we can talk a lot about the game, but i dont think this will help us improving a lot, hehe^^
its also quite funny to sit next to each other and watch him playing sc2, cause you can learn some little things you have never thought of doing while playing that you cant see in recs on the internet.

In my area (vancouver) starcraft is widely accepted, almost half of vancouvers population is asian so there are lots of great gamers in british columbia i know of quite a few pro gamers. There is Stalife, MasterAsia (pretty sure), Drewbie (now lives in florida) Firezerg, Antimage, Wannabe. Theres a few others im defenetly missing ugh its on the tip of my tongue someone quite notable. Vancouver is a great place for starcraft there are lots of LAN'S going on, the university of british columbia has a thriving starcraft club with regular competitions and there are quite a few different clubs that host GSL finals parties.

Vancouver is a great place to be for stracraft 2 there are so many people that play, along with alot of dota players still , I just hope vancouver gets more involved with larger esports events would be great to see a large tournament happening here, id defently say Vancouver probably has the biggest starcraft community in Canada , although im sure toronto and Montreal have fairly large scenes as well. During peak hours internet Cafe's are full of avid starcraft 2 players drinking bubble tea and playing their hearts out! XD

Edit: to answer your question, i dont know where yoou live in the Netherlands but I have visited the Netherlands 6 times for about 2 months each time and there were plenty of Net Cafe's with lots of gameres playing a good variety of games including starcraft 2, i spent alot of time in the NEt cafe's in Amsterdam and Rotterdam and I met quite a few fellow starcraft players, if you live in a smaller city it might be harder to find but assuming you live in or around amsterdam or Rotterdam you should beable to go to a Net Cafe and find like minded gamers :D

This may be way too late but it's coming up in my search so what the heck. I've got a bit of time on my hands, so I can build something to help players find others nearby. If you're interested, let me know your details here: https://meetgamers.typeform.com/to/v2K457

I guess the passion for the game and the RTS genre varies from country to country depending on a lot of factors.
As an example France has many players, when i'm in Paris i can easily find some in esports bars, cybercafé and conventions. Also a lot of people kept an interest for the game thanks to emblematic figures such as P&T, ogaming and Millenium, i believe that's why germany has quite a lot of players too ( IEM/TakeTV )

But when i'm in Bangkok its pretty much impossible to find anyone playing sc2.
First of all because there's no esport association for sc2, no tournament, no nothing. Blizzard isn't even making advertisement here.
So yeah pretty much no one plays, i guess i found a few people but i don't think they're playing anymore (even red archon is innactive )

Would be awesome to meet in real life with some people to practice... but I gave up. Here in Panama consoles conquered everything. Mobas seem to be the games played by pc owners............ I am not saying that I am the only Sc2 Player in Panama but I really gave up on looking for players >.< Bad luck hahaha
