Have been trying to keep the Japanese Page updated on the Wiki. but it's hard as my Japanese is only of a lower intermediate level at the moment, and I play on EU.. so I can't play Japanese people on SC2 to get in with the scene (everyone is on US I believe, due to the game not being officially available over here.)
Seems a good a place as any... anyone know of any good youtube casters ? I split most of my day up between Japanese and Starcraft... if I could combine them. that'd be awesome,

btw.. isn't livedoor just the same kind of thing as Xfire?

Sorry, don't know of any youtube casters.

Never used Xfire so I don't know about that, either. o_O

Japan seems like a good fit for Starcraft2 and would be a real boon to the e-sports community, being the the techy society it is. Perhaps Team Liquid could petition Microsoft, Sony or Nintendo to add a Team Liquid channel/selection/option thing?

Actually from what I've been told, people in Japan aren't very competitive with each other, the prefer single player games and such. It's just their culture, so the SC2 scene wouldn't pick up very well over there. Where as in the US where competition is more important than air it's self (and I guess Korea ^_^) SC2 is thriving.

From what I can see, one of the major reasons SC2 or even RTS aren't popular in Japan is clearly language barrier. At least a few of my friends refused to play and they mentioned they won't be enjoying games in English. Blizzard needs to release Japanese version.

The Japanese version of BW was a complete failure. I think Blizzard has learned its lesson about Japan and Starcraft.

When SC2 came out, CyaC was hosting fairly regular tournaments, I believe they had one with foreigners facing off against Japanese players in the finals. If I recall I ended up loosing in the middle rounds to mykgen (perhaps misspelled the name) and if I am somehow super sharp I believe Vibe took the whole thing before he was super well known. Anyways here is a link to the website http://cyac.jp/en , they host other e-sports related things too, but i think do to latency and/or language barriers, they are not currently accepting foreigners in their tournements unless you can participate in their offline completions should you advance that far.

Either way I thought it was neat, and I would personally participate in all the events since I am studying japanese and planning on teaching there in the future, but latency issues makes many games unplayable, save maybe sc2.

Japanese have way better RPG's and other games themselves.

Fast hand Japanese players prefer to play in Arcade fighting games. Strategical ones play Koei Strategy games and the nerds play RPG.

Japan has always been secluded into their own community in terms of agriculture (not buying imports), food (banning US beef) and entertainment (buying their own games). It's more of a cultural thing.
Legends never die... they end up working in McDonalds.

Need this community's help. There was a guy who approached the Japanese community offering to create a professional environment for Japanese players. I don't know who he is nor his legitimacy, felt kind of random. He leaves some of his info in the chat he had with a couple of Japanese players. I'll quote the chat here. If anyone knows anything, let me know!

Note: Convo was not translated, I believe they spoke in English so it is a bit broken.

[21:48:25] 真太: you should be Grand Masters for good practice
[21:48:51] enza: elite ladder?
[21:49:02] kumazo-: there is and will be no player in japan who can reach grandmaster reague
[21:49:06] kumazo-: i think
[21:49:09] 真太: yes, Grand Masters will start in next season
[21:49:19] 真太: Grand Masters is top 200 players only
[21:49:24] enza: i see
[21:50:38] 真太: my friend from Indonesia is top 200 NA
[21:50:49] 真太: also my friend from high school is top 200 NA
[21:50:57] enza: oo
[21:51:06] 真太: if you say no player in Japan can reach this level, then the level in Japan is too low
[21:51:13] enza: yea
[21:51:15] enza: but now
[21:51:24] kumazo-: i know japanese level is too low
[21:52:13] 真太: hmm

[21:54:18] 真太: everything is possible
[21:54:22] kumazo-: yes
[21:54:37] 真太: but for gaming, it's very serious
[21:54:48] 真太: you should make a decision to be PRO or only for fun
[21:55:28] 真太: every player has life outside gaming, but gaming is like a job
[21:55:51] 真太: you need to study, and dedicate time every day
[21:56:25] 真太: do you think any player in Japan has the heart to be gaming PROs?
[21:57:05] enza: low player
[21:57:13] enza: hope progamers
[21:57:42] kumazo-: i think a few japanese go into professional gameing seane
[21:57:55] kumazo-: want to go
[21:58:07] kumazo-: into professional gaming seane
[21:58:25] 真太: if you want to find me players with that dream
[21:58:28] kumazo-: but its like a kind of dream
[21:58:42] 真太: I will dedicate my time to join them in scheduled practice times
[21:59:00] 真太: and I will be their coach for some time
[21:59:09] enza: oo
[21:59:16] enza: who
[21:59:29] 真太: any Japanese who want to be PRO
[21:59:50] 真太: I will do training for anyone who wants to join the PRO gaming scene
[22:00:51] enza: i hope ;;
[22:01:28] kumazo-: i can understand what you say
[22:01:46] kumazo-: i introduce you to japanese community site
[22:03:21] 真太: I cannot speak Japanese now, so I need someone to help me
[22:04:07] kumazo-: if you write comments in english , i will transkate it in japanese
[22:04:18] 真太: kk
[22:04:43] 真太: first, I wish to ask all Japanese to support my organization
[22:05:08] 真太: I will move to Japan later after I finish my studies and after I can speak better Japanese
[22:05:28] 真太: at that time I hope my organization is in top PRO level gaming
[22:05:37] enza: only japanese?
[22:05:53] 真太: then I hope I can make some training center for Japanese gamers
[22:06:02] 真太: in Tokyo or Kyoto
[22:06:28] 真太: my organization is Global, but I want to ask for Japanese to support us
[22:06:52] 真太: we need more fans so we can attract more sponsors
[22:07:59] 真太: can you understand that?
[22:08:08] kumazo-: ya
[22:08:21] kumazo-: and plz tell me your website and contact
[22:08:39] 真太: our website is still making
[22:09:25] 真太: it will be finished 2nd week of April or so
[22:09:53] 真太: everyone in our organization is working hard, we are all very serious about gaming
[22:10:53] 真太: my contact: BNET NA server Shinta
[22:11:34] 真太: facebook fan page here:http://www.facebook.com/GO.Electronic.Sports
[22:11:42] kumazo-: ok
[22:12:09] kumazo-: i will translate it and introduce japanese community
[22:12:25] 真太: okay thank you
[22:14:47] 真太: if you can find any players who want to try their best to become PRO, you can find out their schedule information so we can set up weekly practice times
[22:15:01] kumazo-: but japanese cant meet your expectation i think
[22:15:29] 真太: maybe
[22:16:02] 真太: I think if ENZA and USiGoD tried harder, they could be very big in the old WC3 pro scene
[22:16:28] 真太: at that time I was not working with any professional organization, so I could only watch
[22:16:44] 真太: so now I want to try to support any Japanese who want to be at the top level
[22:16:54] kumazo-: i see
[22:17:11] 真太: ENZA should know that I support smaller countries
[22:17:36] 真太: before my team was the top players from Malaysia Indonesia Singapore and Vietnam
[22:17:51] enza: u got revenant? :D
[22:17:53] 真太: yeah
[22:17:58] enza: ohh
[22:17:58] enza: good
[22:18:09] 真太: but at that time Revenant was already unmotivated
[22:18:36] 真太: if Revenant joined me a long time ago during the time of Army and EsM, then I could make him a professional player
[22:18:50] enza: oo
[22:18:54] 真太: same for ENZA, I could have made you a professional player
[22:19:11] 真太: but at that time nobody knows me, so nobody would follow me
[22:19:46] 真太: the important thing is to try your best together
[22:20:19] 真太: if we have some team like Kim Revenant orcbaby Freedom, and we have some serious training
[22:20:26] 真太: then all 4 can be top level
[22:20:32] enza: oo
[22:20:38] enza: kim and orcbaby play sc2?
[22:20:43] 真太: nope
[22:20:47] 真太: I just say an example from wc3
[22:20:52] enza: aa
[22:20:54] enza: isee
[22:21:17] 真太: if only 1 player from that team is trying for top level, then no player can reach top level
[22:21:59] 真太: that's why I want to search for all the top Japanese players who want to try for PRO level
[22:22:22] 真太: we can make weekly practice times, and I will be their coach so they can try to improve together
[22:22:27] enza: enoch
[22:22:30] enza: hes want pro level
[22:22:34] enza: but hes cant speak english
[22:22:50] 真太: I see
[22:22:57] enza: hes 17-18age
[22:23:05] 真太: that's a good age
[22:23:08] enza: yea
[22:23:28] 真太: so I need a Japanese assistant
[22:23:38] 真太: someone who can join with all of us in practice times
[22:23:42] 真太: and can translate for me
[22:24:07] enza: ;;
[22:24:27] 真太: it will require some work
[22:25:26] 真太: I will make weekly reports, that means I will write once a week about each players progress, each players weakness, each players strength, etc
[22:25:33] 真太: and someone can translate for me
[22:26:12] 真太: like I said before, anything is possible, but I need some help if I can be successful
[22:26:25] 真太: maybe kumazo ?
[22:26:45] kumazo-: im busy in full time work
[22:26:55] kumazo-: so i cant help you fully
[22:27:26] 真太: k
[22:27:46] 真太: I'm also busy with full time work, but I work super overtime for sc2
[22:27:53] 真太:
[22:29:31] 真太: anyways for now you can advertise my offer
[22:29:42] 真太: thanks so much for your help

I left out some of his more personal contact info. But, from the chat, his b.net name is Shinta and his facebook fanpage is apparently http://www.facebook.com/GO.Electronic.Sports .

If this is legit, it would mean a lot of hype for the Japanese SC2 scene.

There's not to much I can offer except moral support -- seeing a Japanese scene grow despite the setbecks of not having a local translation of the game and the country having a minimal e-sports presence in general would be amazing.

I wish my Japanese were better, but alas my two years in undergrad have kinda left me with only rudimentary skills. Still a lot of love for the country and will definitely be following your progress here. good luck!

That's a good point, also. Foreign games are rarely successful in Japan, no matter the genre. They have their own game industry and pretty much stick to it, so unless a Japanese RTS makes it big internationally it's hard to see them developing a huge scene for it.

If Japanese weren't into consoles this much, I think they could have amazing players like Korea. The entire country has an amazing understanding of discipline... They would par with Korean players' practice schedule
