All the best Kelly. I enjoyed the change, and hope to see you back. I'm sure Tastosis appreciate being able to take breaks to give others a shot, I commend GOM for the "beta casting" idea.
I read a post earlier in this thread that people have sent death threats to her? I hope this is just a bad joke, if not those people are complete wastes of oxygen.
Opinions are awesome, they can be negative as long as they're constructive but haven't seen much of that in regards to this situation with Code A casting changes. Not surprised if she never reads this thread or any other on TL.net with her name in it again.
Personally I didn't know if I enjoyed it at first because it was new and different, but after a while familiarity kicked in and I decided it was fine. Not a big deal, Code A and Code S have been awesome this year. The only thing I'm upset about to be honest is that incredible players like MvP and Nestea were knocked out so early, and that's no one else's fault but MvP and Nestea's
This is all IMHO with the best intentions. If you find that you're one of these angry people I mentioned earlier in my post and feel necessary to rage, please take a minute to realise you're being rediculous before you type anything.

also, you people act like youve never heard an asian speek english befor, sure it can be broken at times but its perfectly understandable, maybe she wasnt the most educated in the nuances of sc2 but i had absolutly no problem understanding her. sure she pronounces words funny but you can totally tell what word she is trying to pronounce, no need for the hate mongering.
Why should we be ashamed? Her accent is extremely thick and really hard to comprehend. I love how she is passionate about starcraft and all, but I personally don't think casting is best for her. I don't think the majority of people that are critiquing her are hating. We're just stating our opinions. A lot of us pay $10 a month for GSL and if we (the customers) aren't satisfied with something, we're going to make our voices heard.
Anyways I hope they bring in Moletrap, he was awesome in bw. I'm happy that they aren't sticking with Kelly, but you never know.

I'm 100% American and I could understand Kelly better than TLO at least. I agree with this. However I think that people are more willing to give TLO a chance and not say anything rude about his casting since he is really good at the game and he's a guy. I'm going to miss having Kelly casting. Wrong, TLO actually said VERY insightful things that made sense to whats actually happening in the game. Kelly on the other hand just has no clue its like she's trying to milk money from sc2 and a lot of people DO NOT LIKE THAT.
TLO's accent is a lot easier to understand than Kelly's, to be perfectly frank. He doesn't clip his words and talks in a slow, clear cadence.

I kind of feel sad. I think having Kelly casting was nice in several ways. She was an inspiration for all female gamers. It takes guts to enter a realm with such male predominance. She also showed us that following your dreams/hobbies is not impossible as long as you try hard.
Unfortunately, she is not fit (yet) for the job. Her unfortunate heavy accent really gets in the way. However, that is not a barrier she can't get passed. I know a lot of people who improved their pronunciation a lot after some practice.
Hope to see her back and improved. Good luck, Milkies.

Just looking at the comments on the day9 broadcast with Soe (on the blip.tv page), I'm convinced that a large chunk, if not majority, of SC2 viewers are interested in the sex appeal of female casters more than any other attribute.
TLO is a huge fan favorite and will have a favorable bias. After watching the recently made tribute to WCG 2005 featuring Artosis, Day9, Tasteless, and others, and seeing them talk about the game analytically five years ago, it's clear that long time SC players have an advantage when talking about the game. It's a man(child)'s world. If you aren't dripping in those qualities most men seek (Soe) and a little more different (Asian, somewhat difficult to understand at first), suddenly you are the worst thing to happen to casting.
And yes Artosis and company have a huge advantage when they begin casting something like GSL, as they are so used to talking about the game anyways. This does make them better casters, for the most part, but it doesn't justify much of the ranting about Kelly. No one expected her to be as good as Tasteosis, but a little civility from the community should be expected. I don't need to hear that you have the right to complain about a service you pay for. That's a given. If you want to be heard as more than an angry mob, act like it.

There are alot of better casters than her in my opinion, hope we can hear from them soon. She talks alot about irrelevant things than the game itself.

Hi guys.
Saying things like 'she can't help how she talks' is very insulting to other Singaporeans. English is the first language of this country, and you can bet any form of public speech here does not involve brueframe herrions. People can, and do, learn to articulate normally. Actors, debators, politicians, radio hosts etc here all use international-standard English and pronounce words clearly.
If someone has a job involving public speech and cannot articulate, that's not a cultural issue. It's their issue. Don't try to make this seem like Singapore is a country where English is a bizarre talent and any quality = good quality when it's the national language.
That said, I found a lot of other issues with her casting. Good job to her for getting out there and putting in the effort, but I'm not distraught at the change.

I wonder who the next co-caster will be?
Best of luck to you, Kelly

Hopefully GOM knows when and when not to listen to the haters. In this case she did great, was clearly understandable by anyone with halfway decent listening comprehension skills (lots of Americans fail hard at this), and had solid game knowledge/passion. Above all that she's got a good personality for the job which is the most important quality of any entertainer.

Ashamed because she is hard to understand? We should reward people who have complete disregard for the entertainment of others to suit their own interests? Are you encouraging sexism? (ie. treating a caster differently by giving her more leeway on the account that the caster is a female).
I'm really sick of all the extreme BS from people who are defending her casting for whatever white knight reasons they have. This many people can't be wrong on an issue as simple as this one - let it go.

I doubt she would get fired because of the accent. Accents if anything are just funny and you eventually get used to them and enjoy them.
She was okay with Tasteless because I feel each other them had some role though the lack of Artosisencyclopedia made it not as great. I think it's good to tryout more people though because there are so many talented casters.
Good luck to her and everyone, I somewhat enjoyed her casting after some time but then again this hasn't been the best GSL and I didn't watch a whole lot of games.

I'm pretty happy to hear this. I'm sure she is a nice girl and is enthusiastic about starcraft. But she simply is far too hard to understand and it really takes away from the production value of gom.
honestly i've had to watch every code A on mute.... I wish her luck but i'm hoping she commentates in her native language or on a game I dont observe.
P.s I dont know why people get warned/temp banned for saying things similar to this. It's not really ill will. Some people just don't have the skill set to do certain things. You honestly cant tell me that she is the best fit for a gomtv caster position. Her accent should preclude her being eligible for this. If she can learn to make it and beat out hte competition, I'm all for it. But currently she really does take away from teh quality of the broadcasts, and I think that is most people's beef.
I'm from Pittsburgh and when I was interviewing for jobs, people made sure I didn thave an accent as it is perceived as unprofessional. If i did, i guarentee you I wouldn't be hired. Thats life

I hadn't been following Code A beyond just looking at the results. Yesterday I watched the first code A game I saw this season (Huk vs LosirA) and I thought she was pretty good. Not great, but I would only describe Day[9], Tasteless and Artosis as great (as far as SC2 commentary goes). I didn't find her accent to be any more difficult to understand than TLO's (that is, not difficult to understand at all). The other Code A games I've seen seemed fine to me as well. But whatever, if people didn't like her they didn't like her. I wish her best of luck in the future, I would like to see her come back but that probably won't happen.
If GOM is still trying out casters I hope Moletrap gets it though. I always will have a softspot for the SC2GG guys who used VioleTAK's account (since they are what got me into pro Starcraft).

The whole kellymilkies debacle makes me sick and ashamed of our community.
I hadn't even heard of her before she got the job, and I didn't particularly enjoy her casting, but even so, the reaction from tl.net was just embarrassing.

I'm sure Tasteless can go and take on Artosis' role if in extreme necessity but he isn't comfortable to make the mental switch every night...

Pro: "I want to enjoy watching this game. I want to watch it with a conversational interesting caster. That Kelly is fun to watch the games with."
Bronzie: "She doesn't know anything about the game! I want someone who can give me great analysis and is just like Artosis cause if I want her to be like Artosis then I must be cool cause Artosis is what the cool guys like."
Conclusion: If you need all this "analysis" just to sound cool because you "want analysis", then you're noob enough to benifit from Kelly's "high enough for you" level of analysis.
Take your time, read slowly, you'll understand eventually.

Have you actually watched the GSL casts that Kelly has done?
The Artosis commentary helps the viewer understand what is going on, and why the players are doing it. Not everything that is going on in the game is happening on screen. Not all of the people watching the stream understand the finer aspects of certain timings in the game.
Watching the game and then having the caster say something like...
On March 10 2011 08:48 FroZen(-_-) wrote: Her accent was to thick for my liking imo... She had great thoughts just not great timings... "he took his guys off gas must be a zergling all in" ummm Tasteless " uhhh he expanded like 45 seconds ago"
It doesn't help. It makes me feel like turning off the cast and just watching some replays.
