I think that ROOT just picked him up because he is a well known player, not because he is super good or anything. He just looks like your "average" high level master player, i havent seen him beat any good players really (maybe in 1 match, but not like like a bo5+)

Good luck to Destiny though, he will definitely improve. Cant wait to see him play in MLG or something :D

Don't think until you research then

"average" high level masters = top 200 player now?

If you watch him laddering for a few hours he will run into good players, antimage, optikzero, other ROOT members, etc.

Congrats Destiny, i'm sure you make a fine addition to Root.

I always enjoyed your stream and your creative Zerg play (and Catz play as well for that matter).
Two of my favourite Zergs in one team .

First of all, we're talking about super high level players here, dont want to seem condescending or anything, as i'm comparing him to the best

Other ROOT members like Qxc/KiWiKaKi/Drewbie just seem on a whole other level than Destiny. And i could probably name like 50 other players who are as good/better than him that you havent even heard of. (just my opinion from watching his stream, not like i know his play in and out)

But obviously ROOT is way better at judging skill than most/all of us, so i am sure that he's up to the task, and he is already no doubt a very strong player who i'm sure has a lot of potential.

Well thats rather short sighted.

Maybe you should read one of the several posts CatZ has made outlining his decision. You don't become captain of a progaming team to hire mediocre players that you don't believe have any chance of improving or winning games.

If you watched the stream, CatZ has been running Destiny through the gauntlet with several ROOT players including himself, drewbie, minigun, and kiwikaki. This went on for quite awhile before they actually made the decision to pick him up.

I think Destiny was like 120th or so on the TOP 200 recently. He's good.

yes he does

he just doesn't like to bring it up, and his stream has just learned not to bring it up since he never entertains the topic when someone in chat brings it up. only thing he is willing to say is that his kid isn't going to be allowed to play terran.

this brings up a good point, though. i hope that Steven can manage both SC2 and a kid. i know that he's making enough money to support himself off of his streaming right now, but i don't know if that's enough to support a kid. i'd hate to see him have to go back to carpet cleaning.

anyway, hoping that the child doesn't keep him from getting to his full potential, i think that he has enormous potential in sc2, the only thing that holds him back is his reluctance to break away from a strategy he has gotten used to. i've been watching him literally since his first day streaming in beta, and his major reason for losing is his attempt to make a strategy work through brute force. he's damn good at it, he powered his way through the ladder in beta with nothing but roaches, even taking down LZgamer at a time when terran mech was considered unbeatable. but when he finally realizes that he can no longer win through sheer brute force and actually tries to adapt, he tends to go on massive winning streaks. i think that if he becomes more willing to adapt his play than just trying to force an ineffective strategy to work, he'll really start to take off as a top american zerg player.

I think majority of hate towards this guy is that he got onto a big team more so due to stream fame than making a name for himself via skill/winning the game. All the showmatches/etc hes been involved in are because hes an entertaining streamer and people want to watch him play, but clearly hes not at the top level, simply from watching his stream you can tell this when he practices against root players, its 1 sided domination.

Realistically however, if you take any ~3500-3700 masters level player right now, and pair him against top players all day long they will obviously progress quickly. I would wager that there are far fewer 3500-3700 masters players that would not become top players given this training regiment than there are those who would stagnate. What separates Destiny from the other 3500-3700 masters players is that hes already got a large following.

As much as I wanna hate, doesn't really matter since its not like ROOT is paying him (as far as I known) and its not like hes taking the spot of a more deserving zerg who would otherwise have been invited. But if the stories of him having a kid soon are true then its pretty selfish of him to take up a spot in a top level team. How can you focus on playing sc2 12 hours a day when you have a kid to raise. I don't know if anyone "come up" in the sc2 scene while raising a newborn baby. good luck with that one.

Not your place to speculate. Either support or don't support. Personally I give him the benefit of the doubt he realizes the challenges at hand and has prepared accordingly. He's not dumb.

Good Luck Destiny! One of the few "top" players who bring some flavor into a very grey set of players!

Modern society its very normal for both parents to work full time with a child.

this is also a little personal for a TL thread where 99% of the posters have no idea what goes on behind the scenes.

Try discussing things you have some evidence/first hand experience wit.. this is like theory crafting taken to a whole new level

100% Agreed.

In fact my original post was a bit more scathing of those who are doing this, but I edited it.

The only selfish thing that is going on here is to pretend that anyone here has any authority to question Destiny's fitness as a parent or how his commitment to Starcraft affects it. Quite simply, it's none of our fucking business.

Our job is to either support him, or don't support him. Leave the personal shit out please, and don't assume that this hasn't already been taken into account by those who are actually involved. It's insulting.
