Those three were casting giants for real. Everyone else commentating sounds like annoying nerds to me after following them on Violetak back in the day. Well I shouldn't say that, gretorp is funny to listen to sometimes. We should be hearing more Diggity on NASAL so that's cool to hear. but I miss that Cholera and Rise duo. Moletrap is just another Chill or Artosis to me, so I don't really care what happens with him, but good luck to him in code A.

I've got no idea but I hardly think He'd pass up on fully paid job doing what he already does on youtube all week. I think that quality != popularity. Perhaps GOM feels, as I do, that Moletrap is more deserving than some other casters with more subscribers because of his deeper knowledge of RTS that can only come from year of experience. Wrong. Years of experience mean jack. The game is not as complicated as you'd like to think it is. You want to make the e-sport massive and profitable, not a niche, overcomplicated thing for people who take it a little bit too seriously. Essentially, you want to reach out to the average guy, not pander to your trekkies. You pick the fun guy that makes the game fun to watch, not the brainiac that crunches numbers and looks at you like he's reading the global economy forecast even though he's just casting a computer game. Don't you guys know anything about marketing? I agree with this post completely. This is kinda how I feel about this situation, not that I enjoy or not enjoy the casting of HD or Husky or others but this principle should be the biggest considered for eSports to grow. The "grow eSports huge and make even non-gamers love it" is one theory. The other one is that eSports is and will in all likelyhood ALWAYS be a niche market, and content should be aimed at gamers. eSports cannot expect to CREATE fans by stealing from baseball and football markets.....the average joe isn't interested in video games as a spectator sport. HD and Huskies subscribers? You think they're not gamers? It should be capitalizing on what is a growing niche market.....GAMERS!
From The Economist:
Perhaps the biggest obstacle to exporting e-sports to the West is a lingering belief that playing computer games is not a proper job—an idea that would no doubt sound familiar to pioneers of professional sports from tennis to snooker.
What the analysts at The Economist are saying is that baseball and fooball WERE niche activities with little social acceptance at the turn of the century (Grown men throwing leather balls around? Who'd watch that, right?), but the were turned into mass-spectator cultural phenomena by clever promotion.
The average Joe is what the times tell him to be, and had baseball promoters back in the day had the same visionary attitude of "will in all likelyhood ALWAYS be a niche market" then Baseball would be a half-forgotten page in a history book by now.
The argument that goes "my hobby is so fricken special that most people won't ever understand it" is self-deception at best, and this community needs to stop doing it.

awesome! moletrap is a great caster from the bw days, would love to see him casting the gsl
|
that's such great news! whereas i got into sc-progaming with the huge klazart vod-package from the TL-tracker, moletrap was the one who really consolidated my addiction to sc:bw progaming.
it would be so nice to see him casting code a, he's been speaking of going to korea for so long now... good luck!

So for me, fun cast is what I want to see in Code A match. Or they can find another ex-BW pro to cast.
I know a lot of people don't like HD-Husky. But when they co-cast in MLG, that is the most professional cast that can compare to NFL or other popular sport cast. It will be fun if they can have HDH to cast the code A. But I know it's impossible cause there are too much heat from TL for those 2 and there is "rumor" that they are despite each other. Oh, and they already have decent living doing cast on youtube. I think Day9 and DjWheat are the most professional MLG casters, unless I'm missing something huge. I mean, c'mon, would HDH have been able to handle the shitstorm that was the MLG finals? I don't think so.
By professional I didn't mean the context, but how they sound. I like Day9 and wheat. But when they cast it sound more casual. HDH has more straight voice. Which one is better is depend on personal preference. But ESPN caster sounds more like HDH style.

Couldn't happen to a more deserving guy.

MOLETRAP!!
A favourite of mine from BW

They introduced esports to me. Moletrap was always the least favourite caster for me from that group, but I'm still so happy for this announcement. I hope he gets the job.
Think a few years back. Could you have ever imagined moletrap casting starcraft in Korea? Amazing.

Before I drifted away from his youtube channel in favour of Starcraft 2 (and then never came back even though he made a Starcraft 2 channel) I remember he would often regale his viewers with tales of how poor he was and how frustrating it was to find a job.
I'm guessing Moletrap's on more solid financial ground now then?

Great , Gom taking the right decision and replacing kelly next season. GL.

Your answer just really shows your two digit post count.
On topic: Really hope some old school BW casters get their chance in Korea. Fantastic opportunity.

Good luck Moletrap! If you replace Kellymilkies, consider my subscription to GSL saved.

anyone that jumped right in to sc2 without having played sc1 for an extensive amount of time wont know him..i had actually forgotten about him until seeing this post

Sadly I didn't follow much of the BW pro scene, as I was a busy little teenager who loved UMS maps LOL. So, I don't really know him. Would he be more of a color commentator or a play-by-play analysis guy? I'm assuming the latter.
Based on the OP video alone, I can already tell he will be a great addition to GSL broadcasts.
|
Fuck yeah Moletrap! I didn't even know he was still around.
|
Moletrap!!!! I wish you the best. It will be so much better than the new kellymilkies chick.
I always enjoyed your BW casting.
|
Moletrap, Klazart, Diggity, these guys were the reason I started watching pro BW and realized just how awful I really was at the game
Good luck Moletrap! I don't get all the hate toward female casters though, Kelly can once in a while be a little hard to understand but usually it's just fine, plus she calls hellions race cars. Either way it isn't indicative of female casters in general. Of course nobody is Artosis except for Artosis. I really think Moletrap will do great though, and he sure deserves it.
|
Awesome, moletrap was one of the commentators who got me into professional bw years ago. Good to see him being considered. Hope he gets it.
|
Nice! Show the world what good casting means.
Good luck Moletrap
|
meh.. he's ok, not my favorite but better than a lot of joke casters out there. I wish him luck! but I kinda want artosis or tasteless to be in the Code A matches like they've done already with an alternate caster. I don't mind Kelly, she isn't an eye sore and she has some decent knowledge, sure her english is sometimes atrocious but I don't mind too much. Plus look at it this way, having a female cast Starcraft is a bit more eye opening to someone who doesn't follow SC than just having males all the time. Having a female caster makes it seem like e-sports is actually something that could be more publicly acceptable.
