Hwanni is back folks.

We went down to Star Tale's ProGaming house to get some footage, and do some interviews. I asked the progamers all sorts of awesome stuff, including their opinions on who the best players in the world are, why they lost certain matches, and balance.

And before you ask, yes, we will be going to every single Pro-Team house to do these types of videos.

Star Tale ProGaming house tour!

ST Bomber Interview

ST Ace Interview

ST Squirtle Interview

ST JulyZerg Interview

StarTale Clip: Bomber vs JulyZerg

Artosis, You are the man that gives us westerners a look into the korean scene.

you should compile all the house tours/interviews into one giant documentary about Korean Pro Teams once you are done.

Can some one please explain to me the bedding rooms where the players sleep on mats. Does everyone in Korea do this or is it only a progamer thing? Just seems allitle foreign to me.

Thank a lot Artosis and Hwanni. I know Hwanni have contributed a lot to Starcraft English foreigner's community. He is the unsung hero to us and doesn't get much credit that he deserved. Hwanni does the best job of translating of all the translators I've seem, he'll translating paragraphs of speeches that progamers have spoken that other translators will not fully translate or shorten to the point.

I wish him well with whatever he is doing now and more success to him. I hope Artosis treat you many foods after all the translating you have done for us.

I liked Hwanni's explanation for why Bomber switched from Protoss to Terran: He was owning up the ladder as protoss, but "after [in?] three games, somebody beat the shit out of him."

But nothing can surpass your Bisu interview (unless it's another Bisu interview)

Wow, Intel is really getting into SC2 and eSports in general. I've been really impressed with them recently!

And, to be honest, even though there wasn't much doubt that I would be going Intel in my next computer, this type of thing has really helped cement my loyalty to them. Bravo, Intel!

Well July did pick MC into his group so he is just that confident. I have to wonder if he'll make it out. At least he took out Bomber in that short clip at the end :D

Did he? Interesting. Is JulyZerg on big maps the future?

Mhm, if July doesn't make it out of the group it's because he dug his own grave, but if he does make it out, his badass level will go off the charts

Great job and thanks for this!

Honestly most times when there is a translator involved I find myself being bothered because they usually do a poor job [ all things considered ] but hwanni and in the past susie do a great job with on the spot translations. People should be reassured that anything hwanni re-communicates is pretty damn accurate.

Did you notice that when Artosis said (thankyou? goodbye?) in korean and bowed, IMMEDIATLY hwanny and julyzerg started bowing too, like THAT WAS FAST!!! I`m really impressed by this because I lack so much social skill, when somebody wants to shake my hand I just stare at his hand wondering what to do with it....

Have you ever actually slept on the floor? TBH it's not that bad and it straightens out your back.

Unless you sleep on your side in the fetal position, lol. Then your side will hurt like hell in the mornings.

Really nice job as usual Artosis, thank you!

Judging from the first interview alone I already like Hwanni more then John, he's great!

It was funny how half the team was asleep at like 2pm while the other half were practicing, should have opened the doors and filmed them.

Awesome footage man. It's getting harder and harder to root for specific player when you get to know so many players from footages like these.

so great to get more and more insights on the life of korean pros and their view on balance. the "that's all the time we have" interviews from gsl always made me curious on more detailed ones.
despite having were outspoken opinions about balance they seem to be less complaining about it and apparently just take it as something they have to cope with. also July is just a boss, i can't imagine there are many starcraft players more confident than him.

This is so awesome. I loved this stuff in BW and i'm loving it now.

Can't wait to see the oGs/TL house! Also IM/TSL since they are the big boys.

I'm sad about the lack of Torch in this video though .

Thanks for the interviews & tour Artosis, much appreciated!

On a side note, that translator seems like an awesome guy :D Usually it seems to me all Koreans are like super shy and almost afraid to look someone in the eyes (no offense), but the translator is not at all like that. Cool. He should also do the translations in GSL, or maybe every other day in a rotation scheme with John.

Artosis, maybe you know this? is it a room issue or this more common in Korea to not sleep on mattresses? i didnt see even a cot in that entire house are they all just sleeping on the floor? that got to be rough and i cant imagine a very good precursor to a good nights rest before a big match.

i remember that OGS/TL house had bunks i believe but im not sure if they had enough for all players.

Thank you so much Artosis and Hwanni, great stuff.

I noticed that in all the interviews, Hwanni and the players, except Julyzerg, all keep their hands always behind their back.

Oh, and it seems that they all think that zergs have a really hard time at the moment.

Hwanni is back. Hwanni is back. This footage was awesome.

I didnt like JulyZergs games in gsl, maybe because i expected way to much,
but he is such a baller outside of games.

I just had an idea. Since John and Hwanni are the best translaters out there they
should produce a seperate show, something like mtv-made in which Hwanni teaches
John to be more confident and become a baller like him. That would be awesome.
After 4 weeks John would be wearing a gracket and would be bitchslapping every
progamer who dares to give standard answers about how hard they will train next time
and this stupid blabla :-p. Damn now i really really want to see that :/

Keep those vids coming Artosis <3 your stuff so much.

July is right, they really need balance this game alittle to zergs favour!! Seems to me that Blizzard guys are playing Toss and Terran all day long and arent caring about zerg at all. But what can you do? Haters gonna hate

Sleeping on the floor is common in Korea. Its not bad as one would think. But I think more and more beds are becoming common at least when I visited my relatives most had beds too.

They're not sleeping on the bare floor. They have relatively thick/comfortable floor pads folded up and stored away during the day. It saves them some room and many buildings in Korea are still heated from below the floor, so it works well for them.

Only 5 or 6 finals in 3 years July i am disappointed . Well for now i'll be satisfied if you make it out of your group and sent MC back to code A , but it will be tough with your first match being on Xel'Naga Cavern .

Ya I was going to go to bed last night when I saw these. I was pretty pissed that I had to watch at least one interview. I ended up finishing it today and I just wanted to say they were very good. I was actually wondering not too long ago where Hwanni had gone so it is good to see him back. Looking forward to more team interviews. Keep it up Artosis!

Awesome content as always. Just wanted to translate Ace's take on the balance question since his response was kind of long and was a bit too much for the translator.

Ace: For terran, their early/base units are too strong. Protoss late game tech is very good, but it's not like terran late game tech is bad either. The balance of the game is where it's at right now because of the strong early terran units. In terms of map balance, there's somewhat of a balance, but they really need modifications. I think zerg is the worst race currently. I was a zerg player as a BW pro gamer so I play zerg a lot and think about the race. Compared to bw, zerg fills up to 200/200 much faster, so if any of their base units receive buffs, zerg may become imbalanced. However right now, their current base units are too weak that there isn't much merit in a maxed out zerg army. I think how they deal with zerg will overall determine the balance of the game.

lap of luxury .....they sleep on the floor don't even have real beds . Except for the computers and comfy computer chairs I have been in apartments of illegal aliens that looked very similar to this here in the United States . They even have someone to cook and clean for them its called their Aunt. Buy these guys some beds and they need their own rooms or at least two to a room. Don't know why anyone from the wealthier countries would want to go sleep on the floor and live like this for any computer game.

I think thats just a curtual thing, if im not mistaken sleeping on the floor is quite common in korea, and often their living places comes with floor heating. I also think its note worthy to remember that sleeping on the floor (given that the floor is properly heated and clean) its more benefitial to your health then to sleep in a very soft bed.

For me the most depressing was the life style, i like starcraft, but man, it just looked depressing playing all day long like that. Im not trying to offend anyone, thats just how i feel.

Every time I go outside and enjoy a beautiful sunny day I think to myself there's some poor Korean kid stuck in one room with eight or so other guys playing Starcraft2 every day and I just cant help but think my life is better. How do you beat people who are willing to sacrifice eight or nine years of living like that.

Some people like being inside. Just because you can't imagine doing what they do doesn't mean that it's a bad lifestyle for them. After all, you're essentially turning your hobby into your job, you live with people who share that passion and the whole team spirit thing is definitely a nice thing too. Of course, there's downsides, but with SC2 being a lot less demanding on the mechanics side and no KeSPA, this whole thing seems a lot more relaxed.
This post is clearly not a hurr, as you can see from the graph, the durr never intersects with the derp.

with a comment like this why do you even post on this site? Just because you don't see how they do it doesn't mean your life is better or more fun. People enjoy life how they want too they enjoy theirs playing sc2/bw all day.
When I think of something else, something will go here

Thanks for the vid, very very appreciated.

I do wonder though, those progamer houses, all you see is them being silent minding their own practice. Do they even talk to eachother about BO's/TimingAttacks/Whatever besides lunch?
I feel that if they got together and sit around a table for some time everyday discussing such things it would bring so much more motivation to the players themselves.
Maybe it's happening already, correct me if I'm wrong.

Does *anybody* know what kind of chair they have? They look fairly comfortable and I'm in the market for a new chair.

Life is subjective. One persons enjoyment is another's disdainment. That said, personally, I don't know why they have a shared house when it would be better to pay them a salary and have them come in to work like any other profession. I would hate to be eight to a house -- and I would hate to not be able to bring a girl home. I personally enjoy gaming, and I would love to get paid to have fun (and 8 hour gaming sessions is short even for me).

Also, the Korean style is frankly highly inefficient. I think people highly underrate morale and motivation. You coop up ten people to a small confined area and they aren't going to be as efficient or work as hard as say a company which employs ten people, pays them a salary and gives them more freedom of choice and room to work in. If you aren't having fun, you aren't going to play as well -- just a fact in any activity you engage in.

The main reason Koreans are better than others in the game is because of the monetary factor. Once that expands more in the west expect to see as good of and if not better players than Koreans. American's aren't bred to be the best Baseball players in the world -- it is because we have the best monetary incentive to become the best, thus we are the best. Same with any sport.

PS: I am an INTJ and quite introverted (this does not mean anti-social by the way), and I enjoy being alone or with a select few people. It is just my personality type and I can't change it. It is roughly 2% of the population and we happen to be the most geared for analytical, scientific, more solo oriented activities. Of course we enjoy things say, an ENTP wouldn't. Doesn't mean the ENTP has a better life than an INTJ, just means that each person enjoys different things -- its the beauty of freedom and subjectivity.
Thank you bureaucrats for all your hard work, your commitment to public service and public good is essential to the lives of so many. Also, for Pete's sake can we please get some gun control already, no need for hand guns and assault rifles for the public
