the GSL was this superior league with all the great players, with more and more foreigners being channeled in with the new code a-system, and i was already getting excited by seeing where this was heading in a few months.. now, most of the great koreans will be in korea, most great americans in NA and europeans in europe.. sure, there will be world championships and stuff like that, but there will only be a few battles and not real proof of whos the best.

I know this sounds dumb and it is "semantics" but I think it makes it sound lesser to be named for one contenent when for this to be a truely great league it will need at least European support(player wise). Geographically speaking, it'd be unreasonable to expect a high quantity of europeans playing consistently in this league (unless there's some online section), so the North America notation seems appropriate to me (and I'm very glad it's not called the USSL). Plus we can always hope to see a similar league pop up in Europe, which would just provide us with more amazing sc2 action! Now I just wonder about the details of the league... I really cant wait for the 21st!!! I'd be so trilled if they got a TV spot from G4, it'd be beyond awesome. I do feel the tournament being live is important, thats a lot of what makes for instance the GSTL better than the GCPL which would not be the case if these games had been live (yes the final was the best, but the GCPL has week in week out put out great games unlike the preliminary rounds of the GSTL.). So more than anything else I agree with you it being first live, and secondly if we are lucky on tv, are both awesome and important. That being said, and I know I'm asking a lot, of the players and the league. This can only ever be a lesser league if there are no European players in it. at assembly we had like 6 different players in interviews say NA has the weakest server. At what round would the excitement begin in this NA only tournament that you speak of? I want this to be huge, I want this to be awesome, just like you do. But if I could tell call my parents and be like hey there is this awesome game that I love to watch and it's going to be on tv tonight so you check it out, I'd want them to see something that would make them watch it again, and I don't think you can get that without NA+EU players.

Sure, I understand this sentiment but think about the rivalry and debate it can cause. People who are a fan of one league over another, debates over the talent level in Korea versus NA or EU pros and that sort of thing. You may not understand this reference in your country, but think of it how the USFL was competing with the NFL when it was still around. There was plenty of talent in the USFL and people found time to watch both leagues. Or better yet, think of it like the AFL and NFL before the Super Bowl. Perhaps there can be some sort of GSL versus NASL "Super Bowl" once a year at some point.

Watching NHL doesn't deter you from watching Olympic hockey or World Championship or World Juniors right? NHL vs international hockey is a good analogy for GSL vs the potential league. Maybe they will be GSL players maybe there won't. But this new league is definitely gonna be huge, and has great potentials. And before EPS goes global, this is gonna be THE international starleague.

"Tournament A is crap because x, y & z are the best and they are playing in Tournament B". I too will have time to watch both leagues, but there is a certain prestige associated with the GSL for me, one that won't be displaced by a potential NASL setup.

Terrible analogy actually, because in all of those hockey scenarios the best players in the world are playing. Clubs from the best leagues in the world send their teams to represent their countries in the highest profile international tournaments in the world, barring injury or personal reasons all the best players are playing at any given time in each of these examples. Where-as you're probably not going to see IdrA/HuK/Nestea/MC compete in all the GSL's and all the MLG's and all the (potential) NASL's (whatever it turns out to be). They will be heavily segregated and one will not be "the" place for players to gravitate to like SKorea was for BW.
