I don't think allowing multiple accounts per CD key would hurt sales, because BW and War3 both allowed it.

THis doesnt mean that blizzard is going to give you 2 for 1, thats stupid. Its just evidence of future implementation of the option to merge multiple accounts, or buy a second copy of starcraft under the same id. I agree with you but i think the OP is misleading people and raising their hopes by concluding that bli$$ard will give them another account

i don't even care that 90% of the alt. accounts will be people doing all-ins on random because they're bad / want icons

This way people can't smurf, or at least can't smurf with their main race, but can still offrace in ladder ranked matches without having to try to compete with people who are too good for their off-race skill level.

The only people I can see wanting smurf accounts are pro players, who want to keep their build orders hidden... and these people already have access to smurfs... so who else needs them?

I've always thought that blizzard should just let people make their profiles private if they want so people have the option to choose who gets to see it.

I mean, sure it's awesome to be able to practice different races and strats without fear of getting booted to a lower level, but also, isn't it also just as simple to go into Custom games? Custom games provide you a random opponent. If you could have alternate ladder rankings for each race, you would face equally skilled opponents on all races instead of a random person who will likely either stomp you or be stomped. I would love a second ladder account to play as Terran or Protoss since I don't play all that often anymore and would like to spend some time getting better at another race. But I would also like to be able to jump back into diamond to play as zerg.

Smurphing to the max, welcome back. About 50% of your games were against people who weren't at their "real" level, because they were constantly making new accounts once their win-% dropped below 75% or something like that. Really annoying, multiple accounts destroys ladder play. I love the way it is right now. Pros have sponsored multiple accounts anyways and can help themselves with account-sharing (say, Jinro could try some new strats with the accounts of HuK, Ret, etc.)

There are enough people with good talent that are better than you or I when they played 4 games of it. Or just people who did a tonne of customs to prepare themselves before they start laddering. I also think a reason it goes like this is because MMR doesn't take into account how you won or loss, epitomizing Blizzard's idea of that a win, no matter how cheesily achieved, is still a win. But in the end it does ruin some part of ladder play. I really wouldn't mind if the MMR gave you a different MMR on different strategies, and if it saw you took a lot of wins with excellent 4gates, it would put you against people who were excellent at holding 4gates off to keep things interesting. Likewise, if you were bad at dealing with 3rax, you would be put against people who aren't good 3raxers. Really annoying, multiple accounts destroys ladder play. I love the way it is right now. Pros have sponsored multiple accounts anyways and can help themselves with account-sharing (say, Jinro could try some new strats with the accounts of HuK, Ret, etc.) This is, I believe, actually technically in violation of the EULA.
