Wow, I didn't know that they filmed a documentary on Boxer! Thanks for providing this to us, and thank you to subbing team for bridging the worlds of Korea and the rest of the world together. I think that the switch to SC2 was a great decision by Boxer, not only because he could continue to do what he loved and continue to make his fans happy, but because he can now be more aware of the love he receives from around the world, and not only from Korea. It was really touching to watch him interact with his overseas fans, and really heartwarming to see his girlfriend supporting him so much; he would fall to pieces without her.
I hope that we'll get to see more episodes soon; this was really well filmed! Emperor of Terran fighting!
amazing video, the things he says about making his fans trust him reminds me why we call him the emperor. which is a huge contrast to foxer with his whole name changing dilemma, "i'll change my name to whatever the fans want".

You're completely right. From watching countless Korean shows myself, they usually blur & censor out main brand names. The sign at the top of the Hilton was blurred & the signs on the front of, as well as inside, the cafe that BoxeR met with "R" (Razor) were also blurred. Conspiracy theory debunked!
With that said, thank you guys so much for translations. I saw this raw but subs are <3!~ I hope BoxeR gets to win a GSL or at least get to the finals soon.

When hes in the hospital, it was really emotional for him, and even just watching it almost made me cry knowing he doesnt show pain in front of the fans, because he wants to be encouraging, very cool documentary, hope theres more in the future.

Wow, they really did an amazing job at dramatizing this a lot. This whole time I was really feeling for him, and eventually at the end, when I was like "Man he's going through so much!", I realized that I would much rather be where he is haha.

I mean, I guess it's not too far from the truth but I can't believe he is like that all the time... Boxer is a very likeable guy. There is something about him that makes him stand out from other bonjwas, perhaps because he's quite handsome, slim and charismatic, but you can't help but admire the guy. He's very polite from what I've seen, and always humble, yet he does indulge a little in being a celebrity. He's somewhat like the early MJ of starcraft - you know, before MJ started doing funny things.

I suggest you read his autobiography from his early pro gaming years. http://boxerbiography.blogspot.com/ It seems he thinks in the way you assume. It is something that works for him and was good for e-sports since it showed a professional and not a gamer.

Aside from the documentary being really cool, I can't help to think that Blizz devs are really cool people too. I don't think there are any other game developers than Blizzard ones that have so much passion for gaming and so much love for their games/fans. Blizzard is the best game developer out there (closely followed by Bioware imo) and I think we're lucky to have them.
good job overall on it, but here's some tips...(that you could use to improve the subs....if you continue with translating+subtitling...coming from a retired stylist/etc in a fansubbing group >.<)
some notes: - I'm guessing you're using Aegisub
tips: - don't use the default style, I guess it really doesn't matter, but really (stylistically) changing it is good (look below) - don't use the default (Arial) font for subtitles, it really actually doesn't look that good - take shadow down. iirc default was 2, and that's... abit too much ish, personally I don't even use the shadows cause it's kinda...meh on subtitles >.>... - change the style colors as black + white isn't too good/stylistically x-x
other - saw some spelling mistakes here and there, but didn't really get to look through the whole thing,
DISCLAIMER: don't need to do these things, it's just... how to improve your subtitles if you _want_ to ^^'
I have yet to watch the whole thing though... since I'm kinda busy with hw... (>___X) ...only watched parts of it (jumped around)

If you watched more carefully they also avoided other company names (calling Razer) the "R" Company (in translation). Its probably of korean media laws / customs to avoid covered advertising - at least thats my guess.

I first discovered Boxer's pimpest plays on youtube/sclegacy in 05 and was in awe of everything he did, I was also in awe of his vulture micro vs P and once I learned to use patrol I could do it to and he inspired me to learn how to play BW better.
I watched the whole video and Boxer's Wings really opened my eyes to all the lives of people behind the games and e-sports and how it's not glamorous at all but a sacrifice of time and health. A pro-gamers life is not some fairytale dream come true but an awkwardly unromantic hard life in front of a computer screen not even acknowledging your own girlfriend.
I haven't been that interested in following Boxer since he returned from the Air Force as I was only looking on Flash's & Jaedong's games. I definitely have a newfound respect for Lim Yo-Hwan, he puts down his own life for the fans more than the importance of money or fame it seems.
He will always remain The Emperor in the hearts of the fans...
This may just be a cultural difference between the east and west but they kind of made his girlfriend out to be very secondary to starcraft to him, which I do not believe is true. It seemed like there was some sort of depressing undertone to the whole story of the girlfriend, which made me a little uncomfortable. Anyone else get that?

i chalk it up to the sacrifices that they both have to make for his dream. its good to show people what boxer has to go through, im sure he would love to spend more time w his gf everyday, but he wants to pursue his dreams and his gf is very supportive of that, she understands how much it means to him and his fans. like boxer said, he could have taken the SKT1 coach job and be very well off, but he feels like he can do more than that.
it will be a very sad day for esports when boxer finally retires. he is what all progamers should aspire to be, not just accomplishments, but the way he carries himself.

Yes it really looks like a true love story. It looks to me that being with her is his greatest prize.
Scripting sometimes feels a bit like commie propaganda but his and her emotions come so on-top of that it's easy to ignore. Her devotion to him is so out of this world, something you can nowdays find in books or movies. It gives me chills even now when i'm writing this post. Just as someone else said, she is his greatest reward. A very touching story humanizing Boxer ("They know my ID better")

Tendinitis can actually actually get pretty bad, and once you get it it basically doesn't heal, it does get better temporarily but flares back fast once you start using the muscle again. I got it in my hand, and now I can't write more than two pages, before I lose mobility in my hand and am unable to even grip my pen. Imagine if boxer weren't able to play a game more than 5mins, it would be the end of his career.
just finished... coming from wc3 i knew of boxer but not much about him.. this is a really insightful documentary into a progamer's life.... and cant wait to see the new ones!
Being a newb to SC community, i know almost nothing about BW proscene, thus I found this documentary very interesting and enlightening. I havent really rooted for koreans in past, but boxer seems like a really cool guy and deserves all the cheering he can get!

Yohwan is the Korean version of "John," John as in John the Baptist, of the Bible. It's not a "Korean" name. Also, apparently BoxeR used to go by "WoodJohn" at one point.
I have a friend named Yohwan/John; he's named that because his dad is a pastor.
As a newcomer to the scene (only started playing with the release of Starcraft 2), I never heard of BoxeR, Nada, or any other korean bonjwa. But, since my "initiation" in the world of Starcraft, I've learned to respect all these players, because of their achievements and their importance to this game that now I love, their importance to eSports, and to the community.
And, after I saw this video, BoxeR's importance grew exponentially! He's not only an amazing player, but an amazing person, as well.

Thanks for subbing this ^^! Man, Boxer's gf is like, sooooooo good! She is so nice and I can see that she plays huge role in his life. Peanutsc letter to Boxer was also very touching.
Finally got around to seeing this. It's a very touching documentary showing the level of dedication Boxer have for his fans and for the community in general. Also it's really interesting to see the stress he has from returning as a progamer after such success in SC1.

P.S. Largely because of this I dug up the TL-translated version of Boxer's autobiography. To be brutally honest, it's not very well-written. However, as a SC/Boxer fan, I'm sure most people would enjoy it (I sure am). It's really short, too, so I'm almost all the way through it even though I just pull it out when eating lunch and stuff (I painfully made each page a PDF, combined them all and then made it into an epub file for my iPhone). It's not that he isn't wanted in any team, it is because he is so huge that he can creat his own team. Having a team means getting more sponsors and earn more money. Boxer have earned a lot of money, but I doubt it is enough to sustain a family for 20+ years. And we also have to take into consideration that SlayerS only have existed about six months, not nearly enough to establish themselves as the top tier team. But they still get people into competitions and GSL have it's share of up and comers from SlayerS.
It is true that a team with Boxer in it would do good on the sponsor aspect, but that would also require him to constantly play and add more pressure to his personal life. With his own team he can take a more passive role as a coach, and there are also coaches and mentors already established among the other teams so it would probably be easier to just make a team of your own. That is what I think any way.

Annual earnings are enough source to deduct that he is millionaire. You have the burden to proove this wrong now.

Really entertaining and informative, it's nice to see a different side of the eSports world. I think as much exposure as we get even now with the GSL,etc. a lot of us in North America are still somewhat in the dark in regards to how eSports and the stars of eSports are viewed in S.Korea. Also interesting to see how Boxer acts/carries his fame and success in comparison to successful mainstream sports celebrities in North America.

Both are different persons, I can only speculate about this, but Boxer had a far more stressful training schedul, and it take more on the body, maybe White-ra's body is more enduranced. and again, just speculating. there more factors then just age alone.

I think another factor is that I think Boxer lives with his fiance and not a pro team. So he does not have the benefit of that kind of "starcraft" lifestyle that he may of once had.

Boxer is the first active progamer to reach 30 year old. The only other active player of similar age is NesTea, and Boxer is 2 years older than him. In Brood War, if you go past 23, your career is usually at the point of rock bottom.
White-ra may be successful abroad, however I find it difficult to believe he is Code S material. Whatever the case may be, historically speaking, age has a direct effect on performance.

Hes been focusing alot on coaching and training his team, but with the better results from his team now he will be focusing more on training. Also he said he kept thinking about switching races and that it was distracting him from playing but now he has got those thoughts out of his head. I think a season in code a will be good for boxer just hope he doesnt have to face MMA in the first round >< doubtful though. I think he will be back in code s within a season or 2 but winning a Code a could be good for bringing some of his confidence back I beleive in boxer and think he will be back on top and (hopefully) win a championship before he retires, that would be so awesome. I mean in season 2 he already placed top 4 and that was really impressive.

Boxer himself I believe is well aware that he isn't doing so well already and thus, we can see that he has been focusing more on developing his disciples rather than himself.

BoxeR has been, and always will be my hero for StarCraft. He's awesome, I don't care what anyone says. This documentary was a pleasure to watch, mad props for the translation, and I am eagerly awaiting the next translation.
thanks for the link. very much enjoyed it. it's crazy how much pressure BoxoR puts on himself. always wanting to suceed, to please the fans, to meet their expectations. very intesting to hear that he is having to play at least 30 games a day (which is a whole day) just to keep up with other players now, while in his prime he played about 18-20 games a day. he wants to play more and get better, but it's unfortunate that other obligations and his injury are preventing him from practicing that much. he was very emotional about the GSL 2 quarter final win vs NaDa, his long time rival (NaDa actually had a better head-to-head record until then), and that's when i understood why MKP almost got teary eyed after beating MC. these programmers don't play these games just for fun or money; it's basically their life.
the show ends with his comments about how fans are the reason why there is an esport culture in Korea, and something along the line of "boxor will always be THE Emperor regardless of his win-loss ratio"
I have just finished watching Boxer's Wing Ep 2 in Chinese subtitles and it was as awesome as first (despite last 2 minutes of the video was corrupted...)
I'm wondering how's the English translation team doing? If progress are still far from complete, I am happy to do a transcript of Chinese to English translation. I'm no good with video manipulation so it'll just be a text file with time stamps and rough translations in English... would anyone be interested by it?? I'll do it if there's demands for it.

If you have access to the Chinese subtitles or the transcript what I've seen sub groups do is they take the Chinese subtitles in that form. I think they take Chinese because it get's translated faster there, more people active in subbing or something? Could by any language I guess, and then they run it through a software translator that will do the bulk of the translations. Think you can use an online translator if you can input the text nicely. I've never done it so I'm just speculating on the actual method.
What you get after translating it through software still has all the timings hopefully, if that didn't get messed up with the software translation and then it becomes "easy" to share it with people who can each take a part of say 5 - 10 minutes, depending on if you are able to split and combine the workload in such small fragments efficiently, and they can easily "fix" the terrible software translations like: "Micro good show very Boxer, legend he be" to "Boxer shows good micro, he is a legend."
And then the final stage of quality control has a person comfortable with the korean language watch the fixed software subtitles and can apply final adjust in context that have gotten lost in translation: "Here Boxer shows us crazy sick micro skills, he is a real legend after all." To something like that.
The method discribed above is taken from darksmurfsubs, who I think "invented" the method, and where he made an online "Web Subtitle Editor". Its main use is for allowing anyone to contribute and edit lines of the translation in a similar fashion to how the wikipedia system works. An "admin" or someone with privileges can then "lock" changes in or choose user made changes who you should see more as "suggestions" since they aren't final otherwise one could easily sabotage all the work.

I think one thing to keep in mind is that with translations, if you have 3 people translate you get 3 different translations. Some groups sub in more of a telegram style, some leave out tiny popups on screen the production put in like two people are talking and one person looks confused, they put "He looks confused" on it, others try and do it really methodical at the expense of time. What I'm trying to say with this last paragraph is that it really doesn't matter that much if the translation is perfect and I think you can come a really long way with implementing a system like discribed above, if anything it appears to be an efficient way to sub and as we all know, it takes a lot of time.
