Seriously. This community would be nothing if it weren't for all the pro players who were willing to share their thoughts on the game, give feedback after a tournament, or offer suggestions on balance. I notice almost all of the Liquid/Root/EG/MouZ guys like Tyler, Idra, Incontrol, Morrow, Jinro, Drewbie, QXC, Ret, TLO, and many many more from other respective teams take the time to offer their perspective.
Also a shoutout to people who give and give to the community, and still find time to post with us, like Day[9], Zlasher, Artosis, DjWheat, and of course many more. You all make Team Liquid what it is. And if it wasn't for you there'd be very little reason to read the forums. Thank you, Famous people who've been increasing their activity on the boards. You make Starcraft II great, and make us feel like we're part of the group.
So from me personally, and the community as a whole, Thank you for posting!
|
Well I didn't see that much feedback from pros tbh.

This thread is going to be a great illustration of how things'd be otherwise methinks.
But yes, definately /signed. It's one of the main reasons I drop by daily. Makes the whole thing feel much more like a community instead of two separated systems ("the pros" and "the fans"). Though some days that doesn't sound too bad either :o)
Well. For them.
|
Yep, we are not all trolls! Even touhg it sometimes might seam like it.
|
Yeah, thank you. I have to say that SC2 community is a lot better than other gaming communities, in the sense that pro-players actually contribute to it, instead of running away from it.
|
I know I don't make or enforce rules or anything. But I don't think that SeedLing guy deserved a ban for saying he'd "like-button" the original post.
|
Weird post. People think 'pros' are doing us a favor by posting here...? Seems like something pros should be doing, along with many other things, to try to grow the game IMO.

But I gotta agree with the OP, without the famous pros this community wouldn't by far be as big as it is now. I hope we can get some of them pros to post here
|
I second this OP. Whenever I see a guy like IdrA post, I know it's actually someone who knows what he is talking about. Reading the pros opinions on the game benefits the rest of us a lot.
Thank you, dear sc2 pros.
|
I'd like to thank the pros for giving us a chance to explain to them why queueing units is a good idea, mutalisks are great in ZvZ, vikings are the best counter to mutas, 11pool is the best zerg opener in every situation, and many other important SC2 concepts that they can take to Korea and show those noobs the REAL way to play Starcraft!
Seriously though, I know the flood of bad players arguing with solid advice and discussion gets frustrating, but you should post anyway because lots of people recognize the names of people who know their shit and can filter out the people who argue against experience with unsupported theorycraft or opinions based on lower level games.
|
This is about the same in all communities. Actually, if pros and fans interact and contribute, it's a community. If pros put on shows and fans applaud, it's a fanbase and profiteers.
I really hope pros continue to post and the community doesn't give up on being one.
|
Can't really say I agree that much, I think most of the credit here should go to the staff and the writers that keep the forum moderated and filled with great articles.

yeah, this exactly. seeing random people post about balance who refuse to tell you their rank just really annoys me.
when someone like ret, idra, or nony posts (the only people ive seen recently), I know they know what they're talking about

I approve. I just wish people would stop sticking up against people who knows FAAAAAR more than they just because they have trouble in ladder. People need to respect the pros more.

There are a lot of reasons people post on our site, and I'd say the pros visit here often because of the community created here, not because of some duty of service. It's a reciprocal relationship between fans/community and the top players / SC2 personalities.
I am not for assigning percentages or deciding who deserves the "majority" of the credit for why people visit TL, but as your thread is created in a spirit of appreciation and cooperation, it's probably better to not be so reactive to posts that are critical. Let moderation do its job, and let the community defend your position if you believe in it.
|
You're right. I misread his post completely.

ditto on the thanks. Thanks to pros who post, thanks to non-pros who dedicate their personal time to streaming/posting things that are worthwhile even when tons of people basically crap on them virtually. Super extra thanks to TL/Mods for just having this place available. Yeah theres alot of crap on this site but has anyone seen battle.net? Or ever just googled "how to play starcraft help."
cause I DID!! (I'm a noob)
there's shittons of crap online... and then TL (and a couple of other good sites don't get me wrong.) this place taught me how to play <3

The forum itself is "great" in that they punish unsubstantiated whining and pointless dickwaving, which puts it well ahead of most forums about online video games, but the pros and people with similar levels of understanding are the ones that make the site actually useful for players to improve and expand their play without having to figure out absolutely everything for themselves.
|
you know we should make a giant appreciation card for all the pros with all our names signed on it, seriously how cool would that be?
|
I absolutely love it when dudes like Ret stop by to clarify on what exactly does or doesn't work well in specific situations in our LR threads.
And then I absolutely hate it when people ignore them and are still 100% sure they know how to defend specific timing pushes better than our local pros =P
Much respect!

i think the mods are a little bit trigger happy in here. i hate to see inconsistency in their work, and i can assure you i've seen far worse and far less useful information being posted as a thread or a response without consequence. i feel like some mod is going to read this, scan through my post history and ban/warn me for some stupid shit as retaliation.

No actually to be honest it was just asinine and annoying. Some guy comes on here and writes a heartfelt and more importantly needed thank you to pros, and some troll comes along with a BS statement like that. Ban is very much in order. Of course as was pointed out above by several people the pros post here for the same reason we all do - its a great SC focused community that has a wide area of other discussion as well. The pros are not posting here (or at least most of them aren't) out of a 'duty' to the fans, but more out of the desire to discuss the game with people other than their practice partners. Nonetheless a thank you is in order, and its really disturbing to me to see the kind of response some people put in. Really a lack of appreciation for everything not just the pros provide for us in entertainment, but TL.net does on a whole if you ask me.
|
Ooooo this thread has all the promise of the "who invented APM" thread.....
Surprised the OP didn't mention replays. It's actually a bit of a liability for pros like White-Ra to post their replays given that it may give their tournament opponents a bit of an advantage. Yet many of them still do it and it has at least helped me greatly in refining my play and learning cool trick I didn't know.
And double kudos to Day9 and Wheat for being friggin awesome.
|
Lol any time ;o
But I think you're talking about Slasher, the quake guy, not myself Zlasher. That being said I love progaming and am around it and dedicated to it, but I am not a pro myself, just a huge fan who helps out whenever I can.
|
i was pretty surprised at the rather negative start this thread had, since this site would be nothing without the patronage, moderation, etc that the big names bring here. i personally haven't seen much activity in the general forum, where i browse most of the time, but i'm well aware that they're vital to team liquids success, as a forum and as a team. thanks for the hard work, mods. thanks for the prestige you bring our boards, pro people.
|
I second the OP. Having them post is really nice. Even when it's just like, someone's blog and Huk or Jinro responds to it, it's like, really cool.
|
oh yeah and just thought of this cause I was watching the MrBitter Coaching vids... HUGE thanks to pros who allow their lessons to be streamed, specifically InControl and Machine cause their the ones I watch. I'm sure there are other awesome ones too but yeah... thanks lol if I wasn't a poor college student I would totally donate something luckily a forum post is free :-)
|
(read slowly in a calm and collected way) I actually find this site a bit hostile to pro posts. Unless your in ROOT, EG, Fnatic, or of course Liquid, the odds of getting a temp ban for posting your opinion along with a factual basis for that opinion in Sc2 Strategy forum is quite high. There are alot of people on TL that respect your level of play even though they might not entirely understand what your doing and why you do it as well as those who disagree with your statements in a friendly way.
I personally have contributed a few OP's with valuable information contained in them for those who look for it, except my last contribution was a calculation on why bringing 2 scvs with your bio pushouts is so powerful which was closed because I like to be entertaining as well and used the term "invisible marauder" so it might have been taken by a mod to be a troll post etc, even though in reality my intention was to say the marauder is invisible because of the amount of dps that the scv's absorb and attack rates calculate that way.
Maybe the phenomenon will dissipate somewhat when most people have a reliable rank system of whose top, whose semi-top, and whose opinion doesn't matter that much etc.
|
I actually think that pros could post even more, when I watch pro's streams, most of them often visit TL between games, but don't post
|

User was temp banned for this post. Isn't this a positive post towards the OP?
But I agree, I like having the pros here. Even when it's a cute small post from HuK, something like that raises the spirits. Ret's story about Jinro's sleeptalking echoed across TeamLiquid and showed why TeamLiquid is so great.
I just wish they'd provide more strategic insight, but considering that a lot of theorcrafters always disagree with them with no sensible details I don't blame them for staying away from the strategy forum and threads.
|
Not to mention a big thanks to all the streamers. Whenever i get depressed after a nice loosing streak i love to see that i can come watch some amazing players on the streams. Thanks!

|
Uh oh, remind me to stay on kennigit's good side!
Now, back on topic.
It feels like I am inadequate and to post in the same forum as them, and I suppose this is only normal. A lot of people would get star-struck if some famous actor they loved came up to them, and seeing as these people are the celebrities I actually care about, I don't feel to weird.
Still, I suppose that they're still only human, and the logical side of me realizes this, and there's probably a lot I'm better than them at, but it would be cool to be among the best.
Once Day[9] answered 1 of my questions on a daily, and I had never been so flattered in my life! Now I am straying off topic though.
In the end, Yes, I thank you pros for interacting with us common folk so much.

While I'm philosophically against it, not allowing the oi polloi to post at all (in certain forums) certainly would make scanning the forums for good info a lot easier.

Don't forget the streaming! A glimpse into the mind of the great players we all watch religiously.

<3 The OP, these guys don't really get enough recognition for all that they do, not just the pros but everyone from day9 to JP, all they do is devote all their time to making this community awesome and they deserve some appreciation! Day[9] started off getting <600 viewers, I remember watching and having 600 be HUGE, now he is aiming for 20k, that's HUGE growth. and many people started casting to be like him, and then the scene exploded and people need to follow in their footsteps and post positive things that will bolster the community, unlike many of the page 1 posters here who were warned/banned. We should all really try to raise the posting quality in their honor as a sign of respect and to help more people be like them and take the community for a walk in the right direction, not just 1 step, a journey to being the biggest gaming community in the fuckin world!!!
|
Yeah, thank you for all the QQ. It really makes the forum a better environment.
(You know which ones I'm talking about)
|
I really can't wait for the highlights on their names so I can read there things more easily, good post, thanks to them we're not all drooling on ourselves on how to play.
|
Just gotta say that it takes real balls and community dedication for top players to post in an environment where they may get trolled, dismissed, and insulted incessantly, so they deserve so much respect for toughing that noise.
Also I really enjoy reading their insights on all things Starcraft.
|
I agree, good post and thanks for posting all you pros out there.
I'm also wondering, why isn't there 1 section where pros can discuss amongst themselves? I mean yea it would take away from the whole everyone can post anywhere etc....but maybe it would encourage more high level discussions and people like me could read about what they say/do in certain situations of the game or w/e.
Just a thought that came up :o

I completely agree with this, looking at the most recent top 200 ladder posts with everyone trying to give IdrA a hard time about leaving early and he gave some good intelligent non-rage responses. Not to mention Liquid Ret coming into back him up and his position
Coming here and seeing the pro's talk about balance and map issues along with their opinions on the reduction in mechanics makes me question things a lot more, which is good for my mindset in game.
Another thing I'd like to add is how some of the pro's actually communicate back in their streams, qxc particularly comes to mind it makes the stream a lot more entertaining and gives you an insight into the thinking of the pro's.

I would like this too. There's too much noise and garbage being posted on regular strategy forums, and anytime a pro posts something insightful they get bombarded with more garbage and people trying to disagree, so most of the time they don't even bother.
i'd love a section of the forum where pros have read/write access and joes get read only.
