I have some AUS friends and it's tough to be a gamer out there, a very big continent with not enough players, so it makes sense they can also play in NA. Wasnt it something about NA servers having less lag than SEA? or just the amount of players?

During this time the Battle.net servers and any online games will be unavailable for play. SEX aka NICE!

It is actually two fold, partly the language barrier with most of the SEA players speaking some asian language making it a pretty desolate place for australians but also the fun fact that they got better pings to us servers than sea servers. Atleast that is what people said in a big thread a while back before blizzard implemented cross region play for SEA.

Their lag is quite horrible because they have strict regulations on internet speed there, it's basically a monopoly and it sucks. Internet regulation and less people per square mile than NA makes it difficult for communities to stay in tact over there. Small games or even games with a mid size community have no chance of surviving, SC2 is really the only game I could see staying alive over there which is great that blizzard allowed them to play in NA. Also keep in mind that it's basically a mini UK (large ass continent though) surrounded by asian countries, language barriers can really set back a communities growth. So it is possible to have cross region support, so when is the rest of the world going to get it?

Its not so much as regulations in Australia as there is no infrastructure to provide reliable and stable connections to singapore(where the SEA server is located) on every ISP. The pipes there are either unused because traffic gets routed via the US, or are utter crap during peak hour and have massive packet loss, making the game unplayable.
