I played a 2v2 with my friend doing the planetary fortress day9 funday monday. At the beginning of the game he said glhf and i responded "glhf pal". Apparently he doesnt take kindly to being called pal.

I've been considering for a while now whether to post some of the crazy, racist, hateful BM I encounter on NA ladder, but I never really wanted to. For some reason, the discourse at the end of the last game I just played, made me want to share it with TL because I think it demonstrates one of the fundamental arguements of Starcraft 2. If I scout a late nexus, no units (aka he's teching), and am not pressured at all as a zerg, is it cheese for me to go fucking kill him because I know I can?

(or, as I did just now, remark on the matchmaker setting me against high gold and platinum, when I'm low silver?)

The usual name calling and general BM doesn't really affect me at all but this...
A TvT, my opponent decided to move command his army into mine and lose it as you would expect. After that I just went on to kill him and win the game. After the match I got the usual "lucky noob marine only noob" which evolved into an scv debate. What ended the conversation was this...

If you are sincere and friendly, no-one can possibly take offense unless they are a real douchebag. I often ask my ladder opponents for advice on what THEY thought I should have done better (often with quite interesting responses), and occasionally some have even offered to play me again in a practice game so I can experiment!
However... I wouldn't contact my opponent to remark on how you are a silver and being faced against high gold platinum, because that means one of two things:
A) You are doing very well, and may soon be promoted.
B) Your opponent is doing badly, any may soon be demoted.
Remarking on leagues etc if it is situation B) could be seen as 'rubbing it in' or taunting, and is going to make your opponent sad
