All,
Apologies for taking so long to post, been putting out some fires here at the venue on the live streaming side. We've arranged for the quality of the HD stream to be adjusted (on the fly) and increased. The total resolution we're sending out is not that much greater, but I'm sending a much higher bitrate to you all now.
MLG has posted more info here:

Soo...have you actually fixed the weirdly horrendous ingame quality now?
Its been ten times worse than MLG Raleigh
|
Thank you for listening to the issues and going above and beyond to improve the HD stream.
|
Did they fix the sharpness issue on the HD stream? I may be willing to pay for a ticket if it is fixed since I can barely see the team colors in mirror matches.
edit: the gamma and contrast is also a problem as the next poster states.
|
i dont think the bitrate is the problem, its the contrast / gamma settings you guys have.
|
Huge props for listening to the community! But just to enforce what everyone else has been saying, it's the in game quality that is horrendous, something about the contrast or sharpness or something. Out of game the quality (in HD at least) is pretty amazing.
|
Just to reiterate: you need to look at the screen-capturing settings. Everything not ingame is fine, but the ingame video is way to sharp and thus looks bad.
|
Your HD upgrade seems to have lagged the game.. sigh
|
I can concur that the in game HD quality in DC is noticeably worse than Raleigh. The actual videos outside of the game are awesome so it's possible the observer's connection to the upstream video that's causing the issue.

Dear Lee,
Please try to increase the GAMMA for the observing computer at graphics settings. To be honest your ingame stream looks low quality with a sharpen filter applied to it + too high of a contrast but when we see the casters and the players it looks very clean and sharp.
I think the main issue is with the settings of your hd encoding settings on the computer you obs with. Increasing the bitrate did not do anything on ingame since the contrast is still way too high. Just wanted to point out that increasing the gamma could give a better result.
Good luck with this, and thanks for the live coverage. I know how much trouble and work it takes.

Thanks for the update, but the bitrate was never the problem, everything outside of the game looked fantastic. In game looks awful on both the HQ and LQ streams.
Upping the bitrate has just made the HQ stream unwatchable for me (2.2mbs connection) with no increase in picture quality in game.

Yeah I had the exact same problem when i plugged my computer to the HDMI port on my tv-set for the first time. I had to change the signal type to get rid of the "sharpened image"-effect that seems to be the problem.
I don't know what equipment you are using but make sure you set the correct signal type for the video equipment connected to Day9's computer.
Ps. The difference is clearly visible on the video overlays used, compared to the computer image.

The bitrate was never the issue. It's the contrast that needs tweaking.
|
It's definitely a sharpness problem.
It reminds me of when I first set up my HDTV and was playing around with the settings. Putting the sharpness on highest made really thick white edges around everything.

Responding to the community with a post is one thing; I wouldn't call not yet fixing the issue 'good work'.
|
nevermind im an idiot edit
|
quality is fine out of game, something is up ingame.
|
Pretty much what Mato said.. Lee I really hope you fix this for tomorrow otherwise me and everyone else who wasted 10 dollars on "HD" will be very upset and request a refund
|
Personally, I think its incredible that MLG is taking action so quickly. Even if it doesn't fix the problem right away, it definitely shows that MLG cares about their views. MLG +1
