It's not his decision to leave CJ, his contract was running out and he didnt get a new one. Otherwise i guess he would have liked to stay with CJ

i dont think that is necessarily true. the way i see it is IdrA on CJ Entus>only SC2 player on CJ and has permission from the team to switch to SC2>CJ subject to KeSPA>KeSPA and blizz not doing too good and KeSPA trying stifle the growth of SC2 in korea>im guessing his team takes a large cut of his tournament winnings>contracted player so cant leave> contract running out soon> decides to leave because he doesnt want to be controlled by KeSPA and have a large part of his earnings taken away when the team isnt really helping him improve since he cant practice with any of them> no point in being on team>decides to put in his notice that he doesnt want a new contract.

its a good time to leave since GSL is starting and its got an enormous prize pool. he can earn a lot there especially if he wins since he'll get to keep it all. and he basically earned it himself since like i said no practice help from his team since none of them play.

he moved to korea to join the team cause that was just what you had to do for BW. SC2 isnt very big in korea yet and all of the big stuff is going on in the West. so i'm thinking he might not see much reason to stay in korea anymore as well since the language barrier he has said is very hard to deal with. i wouldnt be surprised to see him come home since this is where the scene is really taking off. i dont think this game is going to revolve around korea like BW did. and i believe he's said time and time again the Korea server is probably worse than NA is.

That's how i'm seeing it all from what i know. it's all guessing but i think its probably the closest thing to the truth than that he just couldnt get a new contract. im betting he didnt want one.[/QUOTE]

There's still too much stigma around pro gaming in NA for it to become popular with the mainstream, not to mention that it's very difficult to make a living as a full time gamer here as well.

Just look at the prize purse for this MLG event and compare it to the GSL. MLG has been around for years and it hasn't really been able to expand outside of its niche gaming culture.

As much as I'd love a huge e-sports scene to emerge in the west, I doubt that it will happen anytime soon, or at all.

To be fair, they are testing the waters with SC2 right now.

If you look at Halo3, the prize pool is MUCH bigger. (Although it's split between 4 people)

i havent read the thread but id like to post a bit of a clarification cuz i think some of the connotation of what i said was lost in the translation of that interview, if someone could translate this and post it on a korean site thatd be awesome too

i didnt mean it as a slight to kespa or cj and my decision had absolutely nothing to do with the political situation between kespa/blizzard. i left because after almost 2 and a half years i wasnt really enjoying the progaming lifestyle anymore, the long hours and lack of freedom, and with star2 i feel ill have opportunities to do professional gaming without living like that. i said kespa teams because they all function that way, not because i didnt want to be associated with kespa. also id like to thank cj both for my time with them and for how supportive theyve been of my decision to leave.

Very nicely said and finally nice to get the real story of what is happening. And I think all of us can sympathize with you and your decision.

Though if you were to let out what team you were looking at joining next I'm sure we'd all be very appreciative :D

That being said I'm one of Idra's biggest fans since BW and I look forward to supporting him further in his career no matter where he ends up.

As long as you are posting Idra, any words on which team you would like to play for?

Good luck with everything.

Idra I... I love you. There I said it. But honestly I think you would be best at Ogs. They are really good, And have fellow english speakers. Is there somehow you can see how it would be at each team without actually signing up with them?

do you think it's possible you might slack and/or not be as sharp as you could if you continued to live "the progaming lifestyle" ?

Thanks for the explanation, Idra. It's good that you left CJ on good terms.

About this topic - do you think the pro-gaming lifestyle is appropriate for pro SC 2, or do you think the way the more freelance teams operate is better? Obviously you think the latter fits you better, but what about the long-term development of the scene?

imo.. idra should move back to the states... easier comp.. could easily clean up 2500$ a pop at mlgs and the monthly tourneys.. and blizz is going to do big things soon i think.

As HuK said, "I mean, this is a nice event and all, but 85k is 85k."

$2500 four times a year is nothing compared to $85,000 for the winner each month from GSL. Blizzard is standing behind the GSL/GomTV.
