Hey all,

While I've totally been there in terms of receiving direct coaching from my friends and family, I honestly think that your friend may just need to check out some stuff on his own. There are a million awesome resources all over the web, which can be a little overwhelming for a new player, but I actually know some folks over at an ed tech startup, Mentormob, who are working on creating a free simple to use guide that draws from a lot of the existing online materials.

It's super easy to use for beginners and has been pretty well received by even some of the more experienced players. Anyways, check them out. They are still a startup, so obviously any feedback youguys have about this guide would be super valuable. Feel free to let me know and I can shoot them some of your thoughts.

I'm trying to teach my nephew how to play. I showed him a 4 gate against the AI, told him the benchmarks, and then observed as he tried the build a few times. I told him he should be able to make it to Gold League at least if he can properly execute a 4 gate (5:40 warp in). It should help him learn basic things like chrono, making probes, making pylons, reinforcing, and microing ranged and melee units.

The way I taught an absolute beginner in RTS mechanics:

- What are workers, where do you build them and why should you not stop building them?
- What are supply depots, how do you build them and why should you build them plenty?
- What are barracks, what do they build and why do you need more than one

All I did was tell her (my girlfriend) that she should build workers, should build supply depots when her supply was about to be capped, and build plenty of barracks (which in turn create marines) to keep her money low. She has/had 0 RTS experience and she didn't even know the control basics.
