I haven't listened to the show yet, but I would assume it's top 50 in your region (which is essentially top 50 Grandmasters, right? I haven't kept track of how the GM works =p). That sounds like the most reasonable aim to me personally at least.

This is not a uniquely terran or zerg problem. Then your blind. Even if it's not or would not be a problem, it's clear. (Hint: Colossi <---> Corruptor/Viking)

Fastest 4gate was hitting around 5.30 mark so not really. 6 stalkers is easy to kill and now he won't have the reinforcments to back them up. Strenght in 4gate was the ability to warpin units instantly to the battlefield. Doing 4 gateway rushes is not the same. It still takes longer to produce units than the warpgates and now he will have to walk them to the battlefield.

Liquid'Tyler's metrics: Play 6 hours a day, while doing your own thing (full-time job, etc). after 6 months if you're not like top 50, you should really really consider not making the jump to pro. I wonder if he meant top 50 in a master division or top 50 grandmasters? Seems pretty hard if its top 50 grandmasters, even artosis isn't even in grandmasters. Seems to fly against a lot of what Korean pros say, where they say that sheer hard work is all is needed to become a pro gamer. I think you misinterpreted what Tyler was saying. I think he was giving 6 months as a minimum, not "you have to be top 50 by 6 months". What I got from it was that if you're looking to go pro, expect it to take at least 6 months of you dedicating all of your free time into sc2, and whenever you happen to be within top 50 of your region, then going from full time job/study to full time sc2 becomes not a bad decision anymore. Oh and he certainly meant rank 50 GM or up, at that point you're playing well known/pro players, top 50 masters division means absolutely nothing.

I'll take zvp as an example simply because that's what I am personally having trouble with. I have got to a point where my mechanics are not the problem, and improving them won't stop me from losing more than I am winning. I have tried copying various builds, styles, and I have tried coming up with my own; none have worked, which is to be expected because if I could beat zvp I'd probably be rich by now. The ladder is also an environment that makes all this more frustrating, because if there is one huge hole in my game that I want to fix, I want to concentrate on that, but I have to deal with other matchups in between and even when I get queued up against a protoss I often lose to something that I would normally not have any trouble with, because I am focussing on one aspect of the matchup and losing track of other things. I get the overall impression that I am getting worse instead of making progress. In short, starcraft is not fun for me anymore am I the only one feeling this way? What can I do to fix it?Not too long ago I couldn't win a PvZ. I just felt under constant pressure due to the lack of map control and I felt terrible in every game against a zerg. And this was just after nestea won gsl 2 so the ladder was like 95% zerg with an occasional random player thrown in. So I just stopped playing 1v1. But I started playing alot of team games with my friends and I only played as zerg (the most op race ever in my mind at that point). I played enough zerg until eventually it became my strongest race in 1v1 as well as team games and ofc my best matchup by far was (and still is) zvp. I still play protoss around 65-70% of my 1v1 (the rest being zerg mostly). But my pvz improved so much from playing zerg that I currently feel in complete control of every pvz just as I do zvp and really the only difference is perspective and knowledge of the other race. Just playing as the race you think you can't beat will improve your understanding of both sides of the matchup so much that any percieved imbalance or weakness just goes away when you can see things from both sides.
