This issue has been beaten to death with the "rape" incident... I find the topic to be quite stale at this point..

Yea same, I really hope they dont spend the whole show on it. They could just link to an old episode of SotG or the show with djwheat and chill.

i think the only reason why orb is being asked to come on is so that he gets a chance to explain himself in person and on stream, the way we are used to hearing community figure's opinions.
|
Other sports have actual rapists and that doesn't prevent them from being big time. That debacle is as inane as it gets.

Can't wait for the next SOTG! It will be on at around 3am after my exam, so i will be chilling with beer, baileys and red bull :D So happy to hear that day9 will be on along with the usual ones, but are still hoping for artosis! Will be wonderful to hear them talk soothingly, insightly and funnily about stuff :D

People can't act rationally about certain words. They just can't. They always forget that actions mean way more than words, but words are so much easier to prove on the internet.

While I agree that the Orb issue has been talked to death, I don't understand why having Orb on SotG now and not asking him anything about that issue while he was available before and nobody ever mentionned him or invited him before.
It's kinda incomprehensible to me.

Please don't spend too much of the upcoming episode debating the Orb situation. As others have stated, the topic has been beaten to death, and only deserves 10mins tops imo.
|
Just to repeat what JP said:
We're going to discuss it, then bring him on ask him 2-3 questions, he'll say his part, and then we'll say thanks for coming on, and move on.
Sounds about right.

Hey JP or other pillars;
I heard Destiny REALLY REALLY REALLY wants to be on the show this week, especially regarding the whole orb situation. As someone who, uh, gets away with harsh language, I think he'd be a great guest.
Of course you're probably already overflowing with guests..

<eye roll>
Destiny is just going to trot out the same freshman-year argument that "people give words meaning" and "meaning is elastic" that he always does.
I like Destiny, but that argument is irrelevant. It's a semantic argument designed by offensive people to justify being offensive, and doesn't actually deal with the actual issue whether being offensive is appropriate or has any value in e-sports.
Edit: AND whether or not Orb deserved to get shit-canned.
|
JP said he only wants to cover the issue for a few minutes and Orb is only on for a few questions.
Bringing on another guest who wants to beat that dead horse debate even MORE?
|
yeah! let's get destiny! a person who is about as relevant to the starcraft 2 community as mia rose at this point!

You mention no reason as to why is opinion is irrelevant, you just dismiss it outright as if your personal opinion is gospel. People are not offended they choose to take offense, and when none is meant and no one is personally attacked it's strange to take offense if not outright idiotic. Not that I actually care that orb got fired, he made a dumb nigger mistake.

His argument is perfectly rational, much more so than any counter-arguments I've heard.
Whether it is appropriate for a so-called "industry" that lives and dies at the whim of sponsors is a different issue altogether.

would you care to provide or at least provide reference to a graduate level argument then? because If you think Alex's justification rant was evidence of sound and logical thought let me tell you, that wouldn't have even passed my highschool exam standards for formal argument and justification. I'm all ears to hear who's come up with better logic than Destiny here. I'm not saying his logic is good, I'm just saying I haven't heard anything better yet.

Sponsors care about what the people that listen think, they don't have their own set of righteous morals or opinions, they just don't want their name associated with someone that is deeply unpopular.

I guess if you get punched and it makes you angry then you chose to get angry and should just deal with it too. Let's not pretend this was some ambiguous situation, he didn't make a poorly thought out joke or quip here. Literally the only purpose of what he said was to cause offense, attacking people for then 'choosing' to be offended is incredibly dumb. And even if they did, so what? You don't have to be personally offended to object to the use of abusive, demeaning or discriminatory language.
Anyway, argument doesn't really belong in this thread so sorry about replying to this. I'll leave now.
