If they were targeting the East coast they would start the show 3 hours earlier and it would be at a reasonable time in North America.
Pretty sure even at 7pm on the east coast there will be viewers who will still be getting off of work or have dinner time commitments on a Thursday night.
ITG starts at 4pm/7pm on Tuesdays, and it has IdrA on it. Has that show ever come remotely close to breaking 7k, 10k, 20k viewers? I doubt it.
Can anyone name anything that has broken those numbers at 4/7pm? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prime_time I'm sorry can you please point to the place in this wikipedia article that says Primetime starts at 4/7pm because you seem to be confused about when it is lol. On another note, changing the time of the day will also potentially change the tone of the show. People loosen up towards the end of the day. Now Geoff, Tyler and JP will be doing the show before they even eat dinner... First line man.. I know it's an hour off, but let's try not to be too anal.
LOL its 2/3/4 hours off in all the other time zones buddy.

I know I'll definitely be eating dinner in the middle of SotG now as opposed to staying up late not getting any work done, so viewers might actually decrease, but the value of the prime time slot could just as well be worth it. I'm pretty much fine with the time slot, though it will sort of decrease the mystique of SotG (what will they talk about if I go to sleep right now?).

Okay listen guys because obviously none of you understand what prime time is. It starts at 8pm because thats when everyone is done with dinner and ready to start watching TV.
An hour to four hours earlier MAKES A HUGE DIFFERENCE.
You are right that TV executives have this figured out. Thats why they don't start primetime at 4 in the afternoon on the west coast, 7pm on the east coast, and 1 am in Europe. lol

Aww, looks like i wont be watching anymore because i dont get home from college until 8 30 - 9ish PM, i thought MLG and SOTG was geared towards americans.

I want to reiterate this as well:
Changing the time of the day will also potentially change the tone of the show. People loosen up towards the end of the day. Now Geoff, Tyler, Day9 and JP will be doing the show before they even eat dinner...
In fact SotG will no preempt the Daily no?

LOL its 2/3/4 hours off in all the other time zones buddy.
Like I said in my last post, 3 times as many people live on EST than PST. If you add up the other time zones, you get just about as many people as live in EST. It makes sense to cater to EST because most of us live on EST. I don't know how I can be more clear.

I'm sad that the show will be on when I'm at work, but if the VODs get put up fast I will be happy.

Dude 7pm on the East Coast is not primetime, you can pretend it is all you want and make excuses how 1 hours is not a big deal.
It is and you are wrong.
The start time of a show is what determines whether or not a view is going to tune it at all.
FURTHERMORE, this move was clearly for European viewers. If it was for the east coast it would start at 8 or 9.

So... starting an hour before primetime (or what is primetime for most people), and having the show run through most of it, makes less sense than waiting until after primetime to start.
Got it.
Look, I know the new time sucks for you, but you shouldn't let your personal opinion on the timechange carry over to an impersonal discussion of which time is actually going to be better for the show. Can you provide any evidence as to why the original time would net more viewers than the new one? Can you provide anything other than a negative argument?
If not, shut up.

Nope, its geared towards SC2 players. If they actually tried to tailor the content to Americans the show would look VERY different .

I don't need to provide evidence, we will just wait and see what the view counts are for the next few episodes and then we can see who's right/wrong.
Anyways, I don't think I'm the one taking this personally. In some threads telling me to "shut up" would be considered an offense.

Ya, Tyler won't even have time to take his suit off, no doubt he'll be soooo pissy as well. We all know how cranky these guys get before the sun sets, I guess it'll just end up killing the show and also esports. If only they could sit around on webcam with friends and discuss something they were passionate about....... oh wait.
You are reading wayyyyyyy too far into this really small change. No time slot will be perfect with a show viewed globally. They'll just have to have fun with it, and get the VODs up in a timely and accessible manner which is sounds like they are going to try to do.
I say just sit back, see how the show goes and if it still irks you, then stop watching the show, feeling satisfied that it's not for you.

You all are reading too much into this discussion. This has nothing to do with my views personally, and everything to do with how it will effect the viewership and content of the show.
I would still at least watch the VOD even if they all moved to Korea and aired at 6am. I was up until 5am all week watching Code S.
This isn't about me, it's about what the show will be like now that its airing 5-6 hours earlier.
Are you denying that ITG and SotG are pretty different in tone?
To some extent I would attribute this to the time of day it airs at.

No question to that, I never heard of primetime start any earlier or later than that. Wikipedia says this as well x.x I can't say much for the other timezones, but I don't think we should all assume and see how this pans out. Another point I want to make is that even if people miss it, there are mp3s and vods so if a viewer is late, so be it, they can choose to watch part way into the stream or just wait the next day.
I think the time could be changed if too many people start switching to vods, but that requires a testrun...

7pm is not primetime on the east coast, 8pm is, has been and always will be.
I don't know what it is in Canada where you live, but thats not what we were discussing O.O

Who cares what time the show airs? It is a podcast, the vods are readily available, and it's not like you need to tune in live to get any kind of different experience. Watch it whenever you want.

ITG is different because it's about learning/explaining the game, SotG is a news/variety show. The only similarity is that they have a panel and Geoff is on both, the content, tone, and purpose of the show are entirely different. djWHEAT even said when they were starting out with ITG that he didn't want it to be like SotG because JP and co. were already filling that role.

If that was the case why did they move the time to begin with? Can't explain that.
Answer: they moved it because the Europeans care.

Because more people will be able to watch. This is obvious to everyone but you, apparently.
