No need to undercut JP and MLG. They deserve any and all revenue they can get from a show they have invested in.

Anyone know if they talked about the new unit pic on SOTG at all?

maybe having an mp3 does not benefit mlg at all either.

Or you could just wait like 2 days and not be such a whiner, it's quite pathetic how spoiled most of the people in this thread are. If you can't wait for a VOD then watch it live, if you cant watch it live then dont watch at all if you dont have the patience to wait 2 days for something because people in this world got other things to do than upload a video to the internet when they have jobs which require them to do other stuff, and also JP said he wouldn't upload instantly because he needed SLEEP yet you can sit there and whine about not watching live because you need sleep yourself?

I don't mean anything bad with that, I love the jokes they make with Europe and I hope they continue to do so. For Choboo, I really don't think saying it like that has any real meaning other than to take a tiny stab to show how much he cares while doing it in a bit of a playful manner so it isn't that bad. I'd be lying if I said I am more bothered by his comment than the stream of irrelevant clutter that follows. -- On the State of the Game blog I noticed there is a new news post. http://sotg-sc2.blogspot.com/You will have to read it for yourself but I need to comment on that. Because I dislike it a lot. I can understand that you want to move the distribution platform to mlg.tv. I really don't care as long as releases stay timely and the player isn't garbage. What I do mind is that you would actually explain to us any technical details about what is going on. Reason being, the only purpose they serve is to create sympathy (they are written like that) for your side of the situation that has occurred. And I just don't think that's a fair thing to do. If you "plan" on changing the distribution you can actually plan it in advance before making a change. For this there has been a lot of time now and in the future where you can do them simultaneously. And when it works, that's the moment where you disable the blip.tv and the jtv and you will know how the process will go for the next week. I don't think it's unreasonable at all to expect such a method of operation and that is exactly why I don't like to hear what is happening, because you didn't plan like that, they have become "a problem". Another note to make is that when you mention a 100GB file in a lossless file, I wonder what benefit that brings. I'm guessing it will allow for 16GB 1080p VODs right? But does anyone care about that? Isn't it much more valuable to limit it to 720p, since it's practically the same, because you get so much more value in terms of efficiency, as can been seen now. The small webcam windows aren't interesting or spectacular enough to warrant such excessive quality. They have been serving emotions and interactions perfectly fine since it's inception. I was also under the impression that you encode it yourself. It will be like 3-4GB for a 3 hour show and you can have it encode and upload 247 while you sleep. Obviously I don't know if that is feasible and if it isn't you can easily dismiss it but wouldn't it be better if it was feasible? Can it then not be made feasible? I know this will come over incredibly bitchy to many of you and even though I have been listening and re-listening to JP podcasts since 2008 starting with Arenacast. It is my concern for the future that I feel the need and value to actually write this down. Things like one person having to edit and upload everything makes it limited and creates these kind of queues. Then how will they ever be avoided or sidestepped? It can give the impression it might not. As a closing, I realize some parts are in reality just unfair and misplaced from me. I hope you can see past them and pick out anything you think is tangible for improvement. Because that has been the only thing I've been trying to aim at with this text. I'll leave it to a psychologist to analyze why I've gotten in such an emotional state I would post something so seemingly misguided like this. Edit: readability
Why do you post a rant when you excuse yourself for being too harsh. I'm fine with the vod being a day or two late even though I'd be able to watch it more easily today than tomorrow. But what strikes me is how every one is expecting JP for providing you a professional service with State Of The Game.
I mean it's expected now that it's labelled as the official SC2 MLG show, but until now i was kinda forgiving about anything technically strange about SOTG. Furthermore, a technical transition from one provider to another is pretty tricky when it comes to video hosting so it can't go completely smoothly.
On the other hand, I'd like J-P to automize the mp3 exctraction so that we can listen to it in the day following the show when we're living in CEST (it takes only on command with most of the tools I know).
The nice thing about starcraft 2 is the non-professional scene, if everything would become as standard and main stream as real sports, I think i would stop watching anything but actual matches because it would be boring.
If that means watching the show 24hours to 1week later because the host is tired and don't have a 5 people team just to re-encode it until it finally works, I'm perfectly fine with it.
JP is doing a great job with the communication and the transparency about the mlg.tv thing and the delay, technical difficulties are not excuses but reason why something does not work and it's fine to state them if that don't happen every week (it's the first time in months). On the other hand, if delay because of encoding would happen every week, I would expect J-P/MLG to try other providers/tools, but it's not the case, and hopefully won't be.

talking about anything else other than mlg doesnt benefit mlg either so be prepared for State of the MLG incoming ^^ jk

It has been said, and I quote, "If JP doesnt do it, someone else will".

Wow what is going on with SOTG. It went from working flawlessly with both mp3 and video into a shitstorm when stuff now gets uploaded via mlg. Jesus fucking christ, dont "fix" stuff that isnt broken JP....

this, dunno what the point of changing things are.
I liked waking up every wednesday and listening to sotg, its like tradition.
Now it might take 2 days to upload? -.- doesn't make sense.

hum. while i dont acutally like there being no mp3 and the vod delayed by 2 days or something, i really dont like State of the Game being an MLG thing now. It always felt like something detached from companies / esport organisations. it will probably not influence the show too much but it just doesnt feel right. mayb i m a little 'romantic' but i will get over it :y

if you check his twitter, JP said he will be uploading the mp3 version of last night's SOTG this morning.
"audio portion of @StateOfTheGame will be up tomorrow when i wake up -- too tired to edit it tonight -- VOD within 24 hours" 8 hours ago

this thread is kinda disgusting.

Acquiring a community personality is not just for fun...no one spends money just for the heck of it. You do it to grow your business. Adding things like SOTG to the MLG repertoire is a business decision, and not benefiting from that investment is just bad business.
As someone that produces content online for a living, I completely understand where they are coming from. It's actually hilarious the troubles you can run into when you are capturing and editing huge video file sizes. I can't even explain how many little weird quirks I've run into over the years, it's mind boggling.
There are always several of these quirks when you are transitioning into something new...it is inevitable, thus it will take a week (maybe two) to get those little quirks worked out. They have to experience them once before they can learn what they are and adjust and fix them so that it is smooth in the future.
They provide a ton of content to us for free, and work ridiculously hard - it is more than a full time job, 40 hours a week is a joke to these guys -guaranteed- they work a LOT more, so cut them some slack, and wait a few extra days for the baller show that is State of the Game

i hope JP wakes up soon because i have to sit in a bus for 5 hours tomorrow and i want that MP3 on my i=pod asap
