I feel like as a caster, commentator, or even player, its up to you to decide how you wish to conduct yourself, just be prepared to accept whatever consequences become of it. How those consequences should be formed should be based on popular opinion.

Pretty sure SotG and Sc Center will become MLG shows and we will end up watching them on the MLG site. Really think MLG wants to have SC2 content on their site so they generate much more traffic between the actual events.

Now that JP is full time with MLG. The only problem I see them getting into is them having to cut down on the swearing, or even not talk about different events because they would be under the MLG name. I still have faith in JP that it wont happen, but there is always a chance.

Seeing how the most of us are unwilling to pay $10 a season, I draw that SC2 audiences are younger. Younger viewers are more likely to be under parental control. Thus the success of SC2 going big has a lot to do with how the parents think. Any parent would hate to see their grade school child adore Dana White for his foul mouth. They might hate hearing the words in discussion even more because it is video game related. My point is, comparing SC2 to MMA is unfair. UFC is viewed by those who can spend a large sum of money (in comparison) per show, or at least old enough to drink at a bar. SC2 is accessible to far younger audiences. I'd say the demographics for gaming and MMA is nearly identical, 18-25 year old males. Perhaps gaming goes a bit younger but the tournament scene certainingly isn't targeting 14 year olds. While gaming companies are certainly targetting tweens etc., the professional esports community most certainly isn't. I think the reluctance to pay nominal fees for any content from the SC2 community is an internet cultural phenomenon rather than an age restriction. We are the internet generation, we want everything online to be free and have a hard time paying for anything online that was once free or we feel should have a free alternative. I like to make MMA / SC2 analogies because MMA is further along on the path that esports and any other niche sport/group has to take. MMA was carried by the internet in the early transition from Pride to the acquistion by Zuffa. MMA was little more than online communities such as TL, where rabid diehard fans would stay up late to watch Japanese PRIDEFC events early in the hours just as we did here for Korean Broodwar. MMA in the US finally exploded after the first TUF season where the UFC inked a reality show. Before that Zuffa nearly liquidated the UFC and Dana White himself didn't want to do the reality show, his worst decision as president,by his own admission. Since then MMA has grown and grown mostly due to the HUGE influx of casual supporters that like to see the testosterone fly with the blood. The foul language and adult themes don't put off the target audience. I feel people in the SC community we are getting ahead of themselves. We're finally seeing some attention and think that is going to lead to SC2 or esports in general to the next big mainstream item. It's not, we have a LONG way to go. We are certainly on a great path but let's not worry ourselves with trying to cater our beckon call to a mainstream that doesn't exist yet, while in the process shunning the diehard's that are keeping this thing going at all.

Is there really anything left to say at this point that hasn't already been said 10 times over? Oo

By the time we get close to 180, MLG Anaheim should roll around, another thing that JP is heavily involved with. would you rather this thread get the most pages or would you rather have the MLG Anaheim thread to be such a success that it gets over 9000 pages

SotG has been constant Protoss discussion and Protoss problems and PvP discussions FOREVER. The only often Zerg opinions are of Gregs imbalance talk and the show is practically Anti-Terran because the very instant a Terran issue might have been brought up Geoffe would smash it down and go on about Marauders or DTs vs Banshees. Every race has it's issues and it sucked that only Protoss's and Zerg's were discussed and the only reasons Zerg's issues were discussed were to amuse Geoffe in his on going struggle to get Greg to admit Zerg isn't UP. I mean MMA was doing great for a long friggin time but they hardly ever even mentioned his success in the GSTL March or the GSTL May. That's only one example of it I mean yeah they talked about Thorzain but other than him they haven't given hardly any Terrans any credit they deserve. I just think that the other races will get their opinions heard from now on simply because Geoffe seems to have this passionate hatred for Terran in both BW and SC2 and being a good debater simply just shuts down any type of Terran discussion often saying that Terrans hover around the tops of tournaments so we have no right to complain yet for awhile there it was mostly Zerg and Protoss actually winning all those tournaments. I just like to hear discussion of something other than PvP for once in a SotG cause I'm pretty sure we all know now that it's kind of a shitty matchup. So was ZvZ in BW so that's just how it works.

This is the most annoying thing to me about the SC2 community. EVERYTHING has to be equal, 33/33/33, according to most people, the vast majority of balance whiners. Sorry, but I'm not logging the percentage of discussions centered around each race when I listen to SOTG; I listen because I want to hear intelligent commentary about the game, irrespective of race. No one's missing anything because there have been more protoss players on the show than zerg or terran. You're just creating some arbitrary rule of fairness that shouldn't -- and doesn't -- exist. It's clear that you're a terran player because you're whining about balance and I don't think you even realize it. You even threw up a strawman argument to beat it down, completely irrelevant to the topic. Furthermore, not a shred of evidence was provided for any of your arguments. Can we as a community please stop complaining about balance and fairness, especially when it's irrelevant such as with podcasts created for entertainment value? /rant /sigh Keep on keepin' on, SOTG. You have a great thing going, don't listen to the haters.
