Fuck easily conjures up images of sexual acts, while shit could really refer to so many strange and offensive things. Okay, let me try to explain this as clearly as possible - we are mammals. We defecate and procreate. There is nothing harmful or evil about either. If your mind goes from hearing "shit" to the writings of Marquis de Sade, then that's your own problem. There is no harmless side to the word "rape". It means sexual assault, and when used by gamers, refers metaphorically to sexual assault. If anything, "kill," or "nuke" connote so much more violence, and refer to the very most evil thing in society, which is taking another life. Murder victims aren't generally mentally traumatized by what happened to them, on account of being dead. Also, murder doesn't target a specific group of people. Rape victims are overwhelmingly female, and the prevalence of the crime is insanely high. The point is that it's useless to endlessly bisect definitions of what is appropriate and inappropriate language. That's utterly ridiculous, especially considering you do the exact thing you call useless in the following paragraph. Of course we can discuss what is appropriate and inappropriate. I've explained in detail why "rape" is inappropriate as a casual term. In my view, racial slurs are not appropriate because they relate to inherent aspects of a person that cannot be changed, and in that sense are offensive at the most fundamental level of person-hood. Whereas pejorative terms which highlight events, instances, or qualities that can very much be overcome; in fact, walking on eggshells around victims is in many ways an insult to their attempts to achieve a sense of normalcy. It's not a matter of walking on eggshells around victims, it's about not glorifying a serious crime by casually using it as a metaphor for beating someone in a video game. It's not about rape victims breaking down in tears at the mere mention of the word, it's about perpetuating the notion that rape victims are dominated and dehumanized. Do not use it as a synonym for "schooled", "owned" and "humiliated". I'm not quite sure what you mean by "qualities that can very much be overcome", but let's look at "events and instances". Would you be comfortable with using the word "lynch" in a metaphorical sense, instead of "kill" or "murder"? It almost exactly mirrors the word "rape", in that there is no positive interpretation of the term, and it overwhelmingly targets a specific demographic group. It's not a racial slur, but using it casually is pretty goddamn offensive, wouldn't you say?

If there is no intent to offend involved in the use of a word or phrase, then you are a fucking retard if you take offense to it. So if I just happen to call every stingy person a "fucking jew", and don't actually hold antisemitic ideas, people should just chill the fuck out and let me express myself the way I want to? Because that's exactly equivalent to calling anyone you hate a "fucking faggot", even if you don't actually think there's anything wrong with being homosexual. When you call someone a "piece of shit", you don't literally mean they're fecal matter, but you're equating them with something you consider completely worthless and disgusting. How should Jews and gays feel about being used in the exact same sense?

Good luck in future endeavours and know that you turned me in to a permanent fan (even though I'm a zerg). Also I would like to say you fucking rock JP / Tyler / Day[9] (and IdrA). Keep bringing the show.

I think what both InControl and Tyler were getting at -- while trying to be diplomatic as possible -- is that there is a difference between "being yourself" and "doing whatever you want/feel". InControl touched on it in his final thoughts on the topic. While there is some validity to Destiny's argument, it's still an immature stance to take -- that somehow, you are selling out by exercising restraint and discipline. Actually, it's a sign of maturation and decency, this willingness to accommodate others. Day 9 was too polite to say it bluntly, but an intelligent person can be engaging and funny and express themselves honestly without having pandering to the lowest common denominator, or using language that is offensive unnecessarily. Destiny may think he is being true to himself. But it's more a reflection of his own lack of imagination, or cleverness, that he has to cling to 'subversive' or inflammatory language in order to sustain an audience or articulate his emotions. I can't help but think Anna's prediction will be right. Eventually the personalities that can grow beyond the cruder customs of game culture, and can engage a broader audience, are going to rise to the top. And as SC2 and these personalities become more popular, derogatory language and nerd speak will likely weed itself out. It's no different from slang like 'chintz' and 'jew' and 'gyp' gradually disappearing from everyday conversation. As the scene evolves, players and personalities that hold on to 'controversial'' figures- of-speech -- like 'faggot' or 'rape' or 'retarded' -- are going to seem less and less relevant. They'll become the Juggalos and Fred Dursts of the world -- disposal caricatures in the scene, clinging desperately to their own fringe customs.

It's a large part of why consistently friendly-and-nice-and-not-saying-faggot-for-no-particular-reason people like HD and Husky are roughly 1,000x more successful with broader audiences, no hyperbole, than people like Destiny and iNcontrol.

Don't forget Day9. What a gentleman. I'm surprised Blizzard hasn't offered him a job yet.

A man is about 4 times as likely to fall victim to homicide in the united states, and 1/8 or so of rape victims are male.

Like how MLG and the other esports leagues employ the casters you listed. SC2 does not employ Destiny. He uses SC2 as a means to make a living. So you're saying that during the 90's when people thought "basketball" they didn't think Michael Jordan almost immediately? That's foolish. I know for a fact that I did.

Any truth to that? I know that there are a lot of rumors about why incontrol is leaving the show, but this convo seemed pretty credible.
