NOTE: New announcement by Blizzard that people who purchase SEA version will also have access to the NA server: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=137947
Poll: Aussies and NZders: buying US or SEA version?SEA (100) 60% US (44) 26% Both (21) 13% Other (2) 1% 167 total votes Your vote: Aussies and NZders: buying US or SEA version? (Vote): US (Vote): SEA (Vote): Both (Vote): Other
Just curious to see whether us Australasians are interested in buying the US or SEA version of the game (or other). The way I see it:
US version:
Pros: Access to more / higher level tournaments More competitive ladder Will be predominantly english speaking (pro for english speakers like most Aus / Nzders) Cheaper (US version looks like aroun $60 USD while SEA version is around $80 USD) Latency (seems people on the Optus network have better ping on US than SEA)
Cons: Latency - possibly lag issues More competitive (could be pro or con for different people) Harder to obtain boxed version (have to import, wait for shipping etc) Timezone differences (peak AUS / NZ time may be low peak US times = less players / tournaments)
I'm still on the fence... I like the idea of access to more tournaments in the US region and the larger player base. But I would also like a boxed version of the game which could make obtaining a US version more difficult... Also I like the idea of playing with other Aus / NZders as well as the latency will be better... The result of this poll could also sway me

You need a 'Both' option bro
I'll be buying SEA boxed version and US digital download version.

SEA unfortunately because I pre-ordered the collector's edition a long time ago. I'm holding out a small hope that things change though and you can cross region.

Yes - good idea, added this option

I think blizz said they are going to allow cross region in the future. I thought they said it in a recent interview or Q&A.

Yeah I'm holding out hope for this too... Just worried that it'll be something that never ends up happening or doesn't happen for a year or more

Yeah they did say that in a blue post when they were addressing the 'big issues', I won't be holding my breath however. I've already pre-ordered a US version. A couple of extra days won't kill me.

this seams like a relevant place to ask... I dont know where you guys live.. but there is a midnight launch in Brisbane.. meant to be sponsored by acti-blizz.. expected to have a few 1000 people there... ?? any one going?
I'll just be getting my collectors edition from my local EB... but that launch party sounds epic.

I live in Korea, and I'm not buying the SEA version. I don't wanna play with Koreans, see enough of them every day
|
SEA cos I'm too misey to get both. I will miss Boes ;(

SEA because I preordered the Collectors edition ages ago.

there wont be any koreans on the SEA version. They get the Asia version

What is the difference in the lag between the two versions?
I get around 200-250ms with my US copy so far.

We're not sure yet as there's no SEA client for the beta. One can assume the latency will be better on SEA but whether it's enough to be noticeable will remain to be seen.

I considered going to the launch party in Brisbane but its just going to be a huge line and take longer to get the game then the midnight release at my local EB will take.

I've already preordered a collector's from DSE, so whatever version they give me is what I will get >_>

From what I saw on the blizzard forums, people were getting between 80ms and 200ms pings to the SEA server. Mine was about 113ms I think.
I can wait for blizzard to allow cross regional play. Not that impatient.

SEA only because of the lag and maybe a few oceanic tournies.

Will be SEA version unless there's been a stuff up

I'm getting US because I get 400 ping to SEA (optus backbone). People really should check because 1/3 of australia will get 350-400 ping to SEA which is I'd call unplayable. I also know at least 8 others who are getting US.
Also I can't see that many maps being published to SEA
Though even if this poll is like even, most likely there are going to be a lot of people who buy the game in store who won't even have looked at this site
I will be a very happy man though when they allow changing realms...
