Tests were already done on the latency, there is ZERO difference between SEA and US (blizzard had a post on the b.net forums asking people for trace routes and whatnot).
It averaged around 250ms for both SEA and US for most people, however, in some cases, many people got 400ms+ to SEA (people on optus and ISPs that use the same international links as optus).
Latency certainly is a factor in the decision, and in almost all cases, SEA will be a worse choice than US.

Preordered the collectors edition, so have no choice =/
I heard Blizzard will fix the locked region issue in a future patch, so hopefully it will happen.

No, I get 102ms to SEA and 190ms to US, a lot of people get lower ping to SEA but everyone with optus infrastructure will be getting worse.

i preordered from gamestop.
i prefer having english as it is difficult to communicate at times.
Played on uswest from my war3 days for a number of years.
The pings i was getting connected to US west
170-200
the pings i was getting connected to kalimdor (asia)
250 +
I think useast was around 220's
It could all be different when sc2 gets released.

not too sure, we have not had an SEA server for beta, so I don't know how much ping I'll get, I may opt for the buy us version digitally.

Which is a pretty huge problem considering Optus is the 2nd largest Australian ISP, and a large number of smaller ISPs use their infrastructure.
That alone is why the SEA server is a stupid idea, and USW has been perfectly fine/playable during beta.
For anyone wanting to know their ping to SEA, just ping 202.9.67.100
IP blizzard gave out

The australian keys should just be able to switch between the servers, or even be redeemed for a US version or a SEA version.. Blizzard really screwing Oceania over here T-T

The biggest pro/con for me isn't listed in the OP. Timezones. Besides peak hours being in prime time, I enjoyed playing the server daily tournaments in War3 but didn't get to play often because the hours were so inconvenient. Sure this isn't an issue for SC2 at the moment, but I think there's a high probability that Blizzard will introduce it in the future.
And just to weigh in on the latency issue, I get better ping to Singapore than USEast (Internode, regional Victoria, using LowerPing), but I'm perfectly happy with the USEast ping so it doesn't matter to me.

Probably get a digital SEA version because I'd say the vast majority of Aussies will be buying retail which = SEA. I would much prefer if we were all on USW though.

This is actually a really good point, the timing of the automated tournaments on US West were mostly terrible for Aus/NZ players back in WC3. This is a good reason to go for SEA.

I preordered from EB games in Sydney. Does that mean its connected to the US server or the SEA server? I dont really mind both, because im currently playing in the US server and im having no problems at all. But also im Korean, so the SEA server works for me too i guess.

I get a better ping to the SEA server, so I'm going with that.

Your Sydney copy will (should) be connected to the SEA server.
Also Korea is on the Asian server not the SEA server. SEA = Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Aus, NZ etc I'm pretty sure...

SEA already pre ordered, but sigh this will split up the aussie community lol ><
|
SEA.....But are there many good players in SEA??
|
Where is the option for "not buying either because they are cunts"?
|
Going for both - a friend bought a Collectors Ed box for me for my bday, and I'll be getting a digital download of the US client
|
US copy due to Optus backbone.
I'm not buying a copy of the game for a little while in hopes of waiting out the cross-realm patch (but I'm not holding my breath).
