As far as competitive StarCraft 2 goes, this is fantastic news and I'm glad to hear it. While I can understand people being upset about the loss of Brood War, it's not a fair statement to be saying that StarCraft 2 shouldn't take its place just because it's not as good as Brood War, because Brood War has had so many more years to develop into the awesome e-sport it is today.
If we care at all about StarCraft 2 developing into a better e-sport, then this is definitely a step in the right direction.
Has anyone actually watched the video? There is no GUARANTEE that BW is dead. Hwanni even said that their may be more OSL, but eventually it will probably switch over to SC2.
NO chance for SC2 to take over SC1 so soon. In the beginning will be some fun, but will this story will end soon like Warcraft 3. There are still to many fun of SC1 in korea for OSL to end now.
Haters gonna hate I guess,I still say they'll do both BW and SC2 since we already know that most of progamers won't move to SC2 for a long time(maybe never too).
BW fans shouldn't be too depressed about this news. The Korean population are like us, fans of the sport. If ratings are low when the first SC2 league is launched (which most likely is the case considering how crap SC2 is), then the league will be scrapped. Good news imo, go ahead with SC2 and watch it fail as an eSport after the initial hype has worn down and everyone is over the flashy graphics.
