Get the Razer Salmosa for starcraft, it optimizes light weight, good tracking, and reliable/fast buttons. i'm so hot and cold on razer. i've been pretty dissatisfied with the razer things i've had that seem rather cheaply made, the price tag corresponding to cutesy shit like blue leds rather than build quality. i spilled water on my only keyboard and grabbed a razer lycosa at the local store while i waited for a better keyboard to come via mail -- god what a piece of junk, i wish i had bought a noname chinese keyboard instead. that said, razer salmosa is my favorite mouse, though i've heard the "asian edition" is better. i bought one, liked it, and it quickly developed the very common for razer "squeeky button", which i took some wd40 to. i heard they weren't making them anymore so i went out and bought a new one (put my old to backup) and the new one started squeeking within ~2 days. salmosa looks very much like the new "abyssus" which has some greater dpi settings, maybe the abyssus is in better shape. i'm really hesitant to buy anything razer in the future without a strong recommendation or some RL experience, though. (ps: it's symmetrical, so using it lefthanded would be the same) steelseries looks like they make more high quality stuff (a mechanical keyboard, omgosh!~), but unfortunately they seem to be making bulky intellimouse-esque mice and not the more logitech mx300/mini style mice. kind of a shame how so much gamer oriented peripherals are more about LED lights and stickers than having quality stuff mechanically (stand up to abuse) and functionally (works better). oh and op: your state of not being able to hit past 5 isn't permanent, you can practice and it will get better. playing zerg in BW I was always only using 1-4 or 5, because i would do the two handed 0s9s8s. it only took me a few days in SC2 to start hotkeying my buildings to 765...

Bought it just 1.5 weeks ago, specifically for Starcraft 2. I don't really like Razer as a company (for reasons I'd rather not discuss here), and still not a fan of them, but I do think this mouse is a very good choice for Starcraft if you're left handed. Well I was using a lefty Logitech mx610 beforehand, so that's what I can compare it with (that's not a gaming mouse, I'm not familiar with gaming gadgets). mx610 had 14 programmable buttons, (some were only programmable through some hack, not with factory software) which I miss a little, but the lack of them is not as terrible as I expected. The Deathadder is about the same quality material I would say, but I really love the optic sensor instead of Logitech's lazer, and the fact that it's not wireless. The mx610 did "cursor jumps" sometimes, and did experience lags, its wireless communication was pretty weak. Deathadder has no such problems, it's deadly accurate (oh, I was using the mx610 without a mouse pad, but bought a Goliathus Speed with the Deathadder, that might be part of the reason). Razer has superior factory software, you can even remap the mouse scroll without any hacks and can set a many different aspects of the mouse (responsiveness, dpi, sensitivity...), which is very cool. Although I'm experiencing bugs with it ATM (causes my system to hang sometimes, in contact with their support), but it does not affect Starcraft performance. Oh, I've heard complaints from people with small hands, mine are rather big, and Deathadder fits pretty well, even the side buttons are at perfect position. If yours are smaller than usual, that may cause problems. If it's worth the price, that really depends on your aspects. For me, it was very well worth it. I think it's very nice from Razer that they sell it for the same price as the right handed version when they can manufacture a lot less of it, so it costs them more (their CEO is a lefty ![]()

I really liked the shape of some of those Cyber Snipa (worst name ever?) mice. Too bad I haven't seen any in my local gaming stores.

On my keyboard, I honestly can't hit anything east of the 5 key without looking down. I use a Nostromo n52te keypad instead of a regular keyboard (with a normal mouse). It lets me use a modifier key to change the qwert/asdfg keys into 12345/67890 (I use lhs grid layout), so I can use all 10 control groups easily without moving my hand from it's normal position.

The Feeling of the razer just is not that good for SC2, its a great mouse, but the feeling of the G9 in SC2 seems better.

Another thing to consider is their keyboard. The Razor Lycosa is a fully programmable keyboard. You can make any button do anything. As far as I know its the only keyboard that can do that. Many keyboards let you set up a few macro keys but this one will let you set any button to do a macro or key press of any kind. Honestly I don't know why this isn't standard with all gaming keyboards. If I didn't already have a decent keyboard I'd buy it immediately. I could probably think of some cool things to do with it.

How well does this work for you? Do you see it as being faster and more comfortable then a regular keyboard? I've always looked at these keypads wondering if I could make good use out of them but I have never bought one.
