God this is depressing... I can't get my stupid Starcraft 2 beta to work (freezes when I put my blizzard account password in)
I'm kind of glad my SC2 isn't working... I play Terran in SC1 and if Terran is as bad as I hear I'd rather not even play the damn game. I don't want to be like IdrA and jump ship to Zerg just because Terran sucks ass.
I shouldn't have to be twice as good as my opponent to have a fighting chance as T. Reminds me of some of the 1a2a3a games I played against some Toss on Broodwar. lol =D

Well you better hand over your key to someone else who would play the damn game.

rofl you can be half as good as your opponents and win most of your games as terran. I played terran for shits and giggles last patch, and was 1800 platinum, beating the top protoss/zergs on US server solely going one unit. Im sure you can guess which unit that was, the best ground unit in the game.
Terran is going to be the strongest race in SC2 by far once people realize how to use them properly. Right now its all based on reaper rushes, and banshees and stupid shit, but once we see people actually using ghosts for more than EMP, and using ravens for more than detection, its going to be insane.
Terrans need to stop whining, they have the best ground unit in the game. 4 stimmed marauders take out 2 immortals straight up no micro, so stop bitching.

4 Marauders > 2 Immortals? Allright, lets see (Thanks to the mapeditor its not that hard to proof things)
Result: Four 3/3 teched stimmed and focus firing marauders die to two 0/0 teched Immortals which do not even focus fire and take out one of them plus 50% shield on the second one.
I do not know what guys you met and why you call them top but just marauders no skill leads to getting owned as soon as you get out of silver league in europe. Say hi to Hydra, Zealot/Sentry, Voidray.
Sure the unit is great, but it does not win allone (if it would, the game would be even more boring then now) and other units often get countered easily in a way that they cannot live up to their costs.

Dont waste our time bringing your bias into this discussion.
qxc brings it home when he explains the disparity between the macro of the races.
Honestly, if terrans had 0 harass potential, but were the best macro race, I would like them a lot more.
Sadly, this is not how blizzard intends it to be, so =(

Seriously, call the whaaambulance. Not even SC1 had perfect distribution of titles among races. Just play the damn game, get better and stop speculating that, let's say, at 300 APM, zerg have slightly bigger advantage in build x and Blizzard should fix that. If, instead of crying on the forums you would get it together and try out some new builds, the situation may be different.
Edit: Okay, after reading the last few pages, I can actually agree with a lot of things people are saying. I'm just not convinced there isn't "some" other way to play it out, even though the current metagame seems to be pretty hard on Ts.

its beta, we are here to discuss imbalances, theres something wrong where world best terrans who succed in sc1 with Terran which arguably was one of the hardest race in sc:bw (yet nobody was complaining) cant beat even mediocore toss users in sc2 dont you think ?

marauder is such a typical "awesome a-move unit". yes it seems imbalanced and totally awesome in every way until u reach top level where stuff like that stops being so good. i wouldnt mind more nerfing on the marauder tho, its quite ridiculous unit but i think its safe to say by now that marauders r beatable
id like less hp on mara/roach/voidray but probably not gonna happen :d

No disrespect, but are you a better Terran player than Morrow, QXC, DeMuslim, etc? I sure am not and that's why I've been careful to not to voice my opinion on balance in this thread. Rather, I will let the top Terran players speak for themselves.
And if you think you are better than them, please prove it at the tourneys.
BTW, we're not denying that you can't get to #1 platinum in your league as Terran. All the top Terran players at the tourneys are either #1 or #2 in their platinum division. It's when the top Terran players get matched up with top Protoss and top Zerg players - there is a consistent trend where they have issues winning the tourneys. This is something that us second tier, third tier, and lower players can't understand. The only players that understand this issue in depth are Terran players at the top tier.
Finally, unless you are as good as a Terran player as DeMuslim, then I take DeMuslim's viewpoint over yours. It is quite troubling that a Terran player of DeMuslim's caliber has to switch to Protoss in tourneys to win.

Morrow, you should show Skyze how to "properly" play Terran

i am 1600 points plat and play zerg as mainrace...in the beginning of beta i played toss because i thought (and still thing) that toss is the easiest race...
well after i played those 2 races for a huge amount i started playing terran and i rly have to say its the hardest race to play...even though i am quite good with zerg and decent with toss(who isnt oO?) i get stomped so hard at plat level...
imo toss is as hard as playing terran pure marauder/medivacs every unit u build more then that is harder then anything protoss can build
just what i have experienced the last few days where i played quite a bit terran and will play even more the last weeks/months of beta...

I think another reason there are so few terrans winning anything is a lot of players switched off terran to easier races because for a long time TvP was impossibly hard if you didn't cheese (watch tourney games still - it's a lot of cheese from T in TvP) and TvZ is growing increasingly difficult because zerg discovered that banelings > bio without any reasonable micro required and T can't do a damn thing about it.
The maps are what are keeping terran IN the game at all tbh. Larger macro oriented maps make TvZ insanely difficult because you can't get away with things like mara/hellion allin pushes (Idra vs Joseki - Steppes of war Idra lost cause there's no rush distance. Sands he won pretty easily because it's like 2x the rush distance). TvP I think actually just changes entirely in flavor on larger maps - ghostmech becomes very viable and a lot of fun. Protoss allins are much weaker so they're forced to play a more macro oriented game and finally we start to see a real game evolve. I like TvP on big maps now, although it's still skill-wise insanely hard for T.

As we now are starting to get into the mid-late game, due to comfort of play and builds that work. We're starting too see what a monster the Z spawn larva mechanic is. It's already starting too show in the top pro games, as Z just never seems to run out of units and just steamroll the opponent (C-luck Vs Slush and Louder Vs Slush TLI games). The abillity to save up 19 larva at each hatch without penalty is soooo inbalanced for late game play. Just sack your 200ish food army, killing most off the T/P forces and then in like a minute have a new 200ish food army steamrolling the enemy base. Now P "might" be able to deal with this as they can chrono their warp gates and get out some sort of def (read; mass, and I mean mass canon). But a T player just have to gg as we have a snowballs chance in hell to mount that many units in that short time span. I just can't see how this is fair or balanced, and so this have to be a miss at Blizzards part.
A larva limit of sorts should be a good start, then loads of balance tests to tweak it. While we wait for this there is only one way too stop this: Denie expos, it's critical that zerg is not allowed to expand freely. This limits the resource income and larva and is the way too stop Z's massing of units, just starve the Z to death. This should work as Zergs tend to make shit loads of drones and mine out pretty fast. Now I'm no top player (by far) but a top T/P might make this work in some way.

*EDIT* <<Fixed max number of Larva, thx to Tareth for info♠ >>

Even when I watch the top players play in tourneys, I can usually pick out major mistakes by the top players when they lose.
I saw all the Cauthon matches against Slush in the finals. I really thought Cauthon played a solid game. I'm not sure what else Cauthon could have done.
Anyways, I'll let Cauthon speak for himself. Does he use TL? If he does, I hope he posts a response for this thread.

Honestly, if terrans had 0 harass potential, but were the best macro race, I would like them a lot more. Sadly, this is not how blizzard intends it to be, so =( That's really my biggest issue with Terran right now. It seems that Terran has really strong harass but very weak macro potential. This is a complete reverse trend from Brood War, where Terran could macro sufficiently off less bases than the other races, and Terrans could opt for a defensive turtle + timing attack strategy.
It's not really an issue of balance, at least in my case. It's more that, I'd rather see Terran have stronger macro capabilities instead of really efficient harass units that MUST be produced in order for Terran to gain an advantage.
I am really curious if the macro of the three races is balanced. By that I mean, when all three races go for pure economy (T makes MULES and SCVs, Z pure drone, P Chrono Boost probes) do they end up on even footing after x minutes?
I do not feel that I have efficient skill to pull of this experiment, but I think it's something someone should look into.
If there is a huge disparity in resource collection among the 3 races in a pure macro race, then I would be very much concerned about that, more so than specific units or abilities...

Larva gets capped out at 19 per hatchery, which, still, is almost the equivalent to having 6 hatcheries with 3 larva each. 4 hatcheries with max larva is like having 24 hatcheries available... I think there's something wrong with that picture (and I play Zerg!).
