Big TV
I am proud to announce the start of my very own, brand new, never seen before, super amazing SC2 show, Big TV! This show will be hosted by myself as well as my co-host Bongmicro. It will be airing on Wednesday and Sunday nights from 8pm-10pm EST. Of course since we don't have a broadcast network cutting us off, I will be more than happy extending beyond 10pm. Who we are
Some of you may recognize me from sc1. Most recently I played on the iccup server under the id SAF.Jesus. Now I am playing sc2 under the id BigT.bigt. I have been playing sc1 for 10 years and have now started picking up sc2. Before the reset I was ranked #1 in my platinum division, around 1950, playing protoss. I wouldn't say I'm the best player, but I am definitely on the highest level of competitive play in sc2. As well as a player and TV host, I am also working no developing the sc2 pro scene in the US!
My cohost, Bongmicro also has a background in sc2. He most recently played on iccup as well under the alias SAF.Foiegras. Although not as high on the ladder as myself, bongmicro is a strong protoss player with a lot of knowledge. He will be a great resource for myself and all of you.
Last but not least, I want to give a brief introduction to Fallen (you'll see why further down). Yet again he is a fellow sc1 player, who played on iccup, in SAF, who plays protoss (yeah I know we need to get some diversity). Fallen, who has no more of a life than I, has been playing the beta non-stop and also has a very in depth understanding of protoss and the game.
Features
I plan on making my show different than any other show out there! I plan on including a plethora of segments that are creative and unique as well as informational and helpful. The best part about Big TV, is that I want to get the majority of content from you, my loyal viewers! You will constantly be hearing me ask for your input as well as forum threads asking for new ideas for the show. So this show will contain both traditional show ideas, as well as many new and exciting segments that are sure to get your adrenal glands pumping! Some features to expect include:
- Top Level Showmatches: Pretty straightforward and standard. These will be top level BO5 showmatches shoutcasted by Bongmicro and I. On our first episode we had LzGaMeR, the idra killer and arguably the best sc2 player in USA, play so you definitely want to check these out! More great players will be on the way! Right now these will be held on every Sunday's show.
- Up and Coming Showmatches: We came up with this idea because we realize that the top level gamers can sometimes be elitists who are very, very political. And for that reason, unless you know these people, it is very hard to get recognized. So this showmatch will be for top level players who are fairly unknown. This match will be shoutcasted in a BO3 format, and hopefully will give someawesome sc2 players a chance at stardom! This will be held on every Wednesday's show.
- Gold and Below Showmatches: Exactly as the name states, we also want to give a chance for gold and below players to get their feet wet in a competitive gaming environment. The great thing about this idea, is that not only will it be a BO3 shoutcasted match, but after each game, we will give advice and feedback to the players, as well as tips they can do in order to improve their game! This will be a great tool for anyone who is dead serious about taking their game to the next level. This will be held on every Wednesday's show as well.
- First Person Gaming: This will be the same old first person gaming with a new twist! Get to watch top gamers play in first person view so you can see their exact actions while we shoutcast from his perspective! Here our thoughts about what the player is thinking, why hes doing what hes doing, and how he might react!
- Replay Analysis: Similar to the gold and below showmatch, we are offering to shoutcast any viewers replay live on the show! This is going to be for a learning purpose not showing off. So we will be taking any losing replays from the viewers to shoutcast and then give feedback on afterwards!
- Interviews: I plan on trying to get some big name players on the show and having some sweet interviews. I'm not going to make any promises on this one, but I will do everything I can to get some big names!
- Q&A: This is going to be a staple of BigTV. At the end of every episode, we will field any questions that you may have. They can be questions about sc2, balance, strategy, upcoming events, what my future plans are for the pro scene in USA, etc. We will be watching the livestream chat and directly taking questions from there!
- Myth Busters: This is one of my favorite segment ideas and I have to give props to bongmicro to coming up with it. In this segment we are going to put our lab coats on and test different components about sc2 that everyone is wondering about. How many miners is most efficient per mineral gas? What about per gas geyser? What map has the shortest rush distance? The longest? Why are stalkers able to blink up highground without vision? Do warping buildings take more damage than already completed ones? How many sentries would it take to create the "everlasting forcefield"?
- Game show: I think this segment has the biggest potential! I want to do some kind of a games show and perhaps multiple types in the future. Right now I am thinking of doing a jeopardy style show where 3 viewers will get the chance to come on the show live and answer sc2 trivia questions! Then the person who wins the game show will win some sort of cool prize!
- Fallen In Love: Ok, this is why I mentioned Fallen earlier in the thread. Fallen is going to be presenting his own segment on every episode of BigTV. He will be basing his segment solely on the viewers participation, so make sure to check the forum and post your ideas! This guy will do anything from Q&A to first person gaming to juggling (really suggest you guys request the juggling). His segment will air at different times so make sure you catch the entire show!
Please send me any other ideas that you have for show segments! Like I said, we are going to rely on you guys giving us great ideas!
Our Goal
First let me state who I think the audience for Big TV will be... Personally, I see the majority of viewers being new or mid level gamers trying to bring their skill to the next level. I don't see a lot of top level players watching the stream because they are too good to be watching the show (not true for everyone though). So with that in mind, my main goal for Big TV is to help you guys anyway I can. Thats why I'm doing the up and coming showmatches, the replay analysis, and the gold and below showmatches. I want to teach gamers who are passionate about the game and completely determined to become the best. There's not I enjoy hearing more than, "Hey Big T, since I have started watching your stream I moved up 30 ladder ranks!" That just makes my day, and I hope to help everyone single one of you in some way.
FAQ
Q: How can I become a part of the showmatches?
A: For the top level showmatches, we will be contacting people. For the up and coming and gold and below, keep checking the forums. I will be creating contests or just randomly picking top viewers or contributors.
Q: How can I get my replay analyzed?

I like this show a lot, gave me a chance to play on a stream and get some feedback. Im pretty outgoing, so Im not that embarrassed to get stomped in front of people, but BigT's attitude should encourage some people who are more shy to get on stream and deal with the nervousness that comes with it the first few times you do it.
Also, I got to obs some good players in game, which was good for streamlining my build order.

The up and coming showmatch will consist of top level platinum players only.
So you would be eligible to play in our gold and below showmatch if you want! Let me know!

For the top level showmatch, yes you must already have some kind of notoriaty.
If you are platinum and are pretty much unknown, then you can play in our up and coming showmatch!

I was moved to plat recently, but still suck.. so I'd like to play in a gold/under or against another terrible platinum player o_O. I didn't play SC1 online at all, and have only had the SC2 beta for about a month, so I'm still pretty clueless. I can only beat terran and protoss; platinum zergs own me HARD.
I would love some tips.. was a semi-pro gamer in FPS stuff when I was younger, but I'm new to RTS.. and suck.

I've been watching a lot of people playing Protoss but I haven't notice much use of Carriers and my question is What role do they play in SC2 or has the value of them been lowered to the point in which it is a waste of Minerals/Gas compared to Voidrays?

BigT, as a Protoss player, do you think EMP can be countered? MM&M ball + 1-2 ghosts with EMP seems to roll any ground force Protoss can possibly field short of Colossi. How do you deal with this?

I have a 'myth busters' request (or if someone knows i'd like to hear the answer xD).
Immortal harden shields with both guardian sentry and shield upgrades, how does it work.
For example, a roach attacking an immortal with 100 shield, it will take 16 dmg, reduced to 10. If there's guardian shield on will it take
a) 16-2 = 14, reduced to 10 overall dmg to shields.
or
b)16, reduced to 10, -2, 8 overall dmg to shields.
Similar question with 3 shield upgrades, will it take:
a)16-3 = 13, reduced to 10 overall dmg to shields
or
b)16, reduced to 10, -3 = 7 overall dmg to shields.
And do the guardian shield + shield upgrades, stack, as in, is it possible to make your immortals take maximum 5 dmg to all their shields if you upgrade shields and have guardian sentry on?

The guardian shield DOES reduce shield damage taken by the immortal down to 8, but shield upgrades do not.

I am typically a zerg player, but BigT you have been inspired by your Protoss stuff. Will you ever make some videos or streams on basic Protoss builds/strategies? I don't really know where to find builds for them to help me get a leg up while learning the race.

I'd love for you to provide some feedback for this replay. It is a 40+ minute game PvT on Lost Temple in the high end Platinum bracket (opponent was ranked 6th at the time). I couldn't break a siege tank, mass marine, mass turret static D. He cut the map in half and we both expo'd out.
I'd much appreciate where you see faults or suggestions on how to break the D he put up. I couldn't stop his expos or macro because of it. Thanks you very much!!

Well there are two showmatches, the gold and below and the up and coming. The up and coming is for top level platinum players who have the skill to go pro just don't have any recognition. Unfortunately we don't have a tournament geared towards regular platinum players really

Looking forward to your show . It will be fun to watch some of the gold players playing...really interesting idea! As long as the players are equally matched, we could probably see some pretty alright games :D
I would recommend you start off your stream on UStream though. Livestream/Procaster has been giving a lot of issues lately and a lot of big names out there are making the switch (Day9, Husky/HD, etc.). I think it would be a lot more hassle-free if you started off with UStream instead of switching in the middle of your casts if Livestream does end up crashing. I've also heard/seen the quality of the video is a lot crisper and they might have an extensive sign up process, but its worth it ^_^

hey first post here, but I want to get involved. SC2 is kind of my first RTS that I've been playing a lot and I want to get competitive. I played WoW for the past 5 years (ugh). Just thought I'd throw a replay up here:

its PvT he goes MMM into Thors. I had a bigger army than him but I think my micro was just bad and probably a lot of other things. I think it was mainly my collosi micro but any advice in general would be great. I'm top 5 in silver atm so dont expect anything great...Maybe one day.

Starting tomorrow, I will actually save my games so that I can find them and create a replay pack consisting of only good games that I play (win and lose). I will release one replay pack every week for you guys!

Thanks a ton for the advice and commentary during your cast today BigT, it was extremely helpful. I was feeling completely overwhelmed after losing my first four placement matches, and I'm already leagues better after implementing some simple scouting/harassing and using choke-points. Now to go through these replays!

There was some confusion around this Colossus DPS during tonights stream. I enjoy the stream very much and loved watching it, so it's really painful to see you angry and wrong at the same time. Just please, read this through.
Here's a table from the opening post of the colossi thread, and the table is right - you can count it yourself and you never argued ith the thread so i hope you'll trust it (you can still check it out at the thread):
Post Patch 11
-------------------
1.65 seconds - 15 damage
3.3 seconds - 30 damage
4.95 seconds - 45 damage
6.6 seconds - 60 damage
Pre Patch 11
-----------------
2.2 seconds - 20 damage
4.4 seconds - 40 damage
6.6 seconds - 60 damage
You were talking about a colossus that lasts indefinitely, so the part with survivability probabilities does not concern you and does not prove anything in this argument. The mistake you have done during the calculations (that's about the guy who almost noticed that you were wrong but then messed up the calculations) was that in the new patch we do 30 damage after 3.3 and not 2.2 seconds. The DPS is the same and while the total damage will differ from time to time, every time the clock hits the next 6.6 seconds our totals will be exactly the same, i.e. at 13.2 both colossi would have done 120 damage, 19.8 both would have done 180 damage and so on. Note that this does not factor armors into the calculations, but then again neither did the opening post and nor did you.

Thank god for that graph of yours. It did make you finally get it (i think). Also if you're curious, the best interval to compare patch ten and eleven is the 6.6 seconds, as every 6.6 seconds (which is 2.2 seconds times 3, hence 3x20=60 damage or 1.65 seconds times 4, hence 4x15=60 damage) the total damage of both patches colossi is the same.
And once again, thanks for the awesome stream, watching you play has been great fun and I'm pretty sure you've gotten yourself a fan.

I agree with Vodh. I like watching your stream but some of your behavior lately has been a turn-off for myself and I'm sure other players as well. You absolutely flipped out today about the colossus dps question and acted extremely immaturely by banning anyone that disagreed with you.
Also, you frequently call anyone that does any kind of rush or non-standard build, such as banelings/zerglings or quick air, noob/bad players even though they beat you. However, you do the same thing by chronoing zealots and rushing other protoss players who build a slightly later gateway. I think this is pretty hypocritical. Not every player plays the same as you but that does not make them bad players. Not everyone plays a standard/traditional game of expanding/amassing ground army.
I'm sure you don't just stream to amuse yourself but do it for others benefit/entertainment so you should consider less raging against the audience. No hard feelings and I hope to still watch your stream in the future but hopefully you will atleast think about what I had to say.

Wow, just listened to you guys for the first time and I have to say that its some of the best and most knowledgable commentary out there right now. I'm definitely watching your streams over all the others now with the exception of day9 maybe :O
I have a suggestion though that you might want to consider turning of ambient sounds since for example rain on steppes of war seems really loud sometimes.

Yo just thought id let everyone know that I'm going to go over replays that I pick out every single night and discuss the build orders, timings, strategies, and assumptions that I deduct in the games. I have class Tues and Thurs from 6-9 so I was thinking everynight @ 10PM EST I will do this. Just to give everyone something to watch, and still keep sc2 strategy fresh in your mind (as well as give me something to do)!
I will also go over any viewer submitted replays as well and shoutcast and critique them! So if you have any replays you'd like me to go over, please upload them and post them in the thread!
I think it would be fun to shoutcast some top level replays as well (what day[9] does) so if anyone wants to suggest any replays for those, post them as well!
