'Blizzard Entertainment also announced today that both the standard edition and Collector's Edition of StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty will give players from Australia and New Zealand access to play on servers based in Southeast Asia, alongside gamers from Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand. This local datacenter will offer players in the region improved latency for a high-quality gameplay and connectivity experience.'
It looks like the WoW realm the WoW players have been crying about for 4 years to get decent pings, might finally be built. This may mean that us Aussies do not get to play the Americans in the beta anymore after all.
Would love more information on this, anyone heard more? I may decide not to purchase if so.

Just to ease your mind, I thought I would let you know ow that even if we do get an oceanic server, you can call blizzard and have your region changed.

Did they say new realm or just adding another data center to NA?

this, :/
Blizzard, this works for an MMO, but NOT for an (apparently) competitive RTS. When will you listen to us?

It's probably a non-issue. Even if they get the servers up and running, it seems like something that would be at the tail end of beta, if not after release.

I don't even know if there's a blizzard support number in this country.

ESPORTS ¬ ¬
Seriously, are they going to keep this up forever or will they centralize everything in the near future?

Every Australian out there should petition on how they'd much rather have the ability to play with more than 10 other competitive players than play with a small reduction in latency.

I might be being pretty thick here, but I dont see how that answers my question? Unless you were talking about the post i quoted

Pretty much, I hope we can get an official answer on this.

So everybody can request playing on the server of their own choice? Would be interesting if everybody requested access to a specific server. I don't know how that will impact the lag but atleast it would give a clear message to Blizzard that we want to play with everybody from the world and not just our own region.

How does a third party like ChaosLauncher/Iccup manage to get near global LAN latency while Blizzard can't even bother to try?
|
I'm generally quite fussy when it comes to latency, but seriously, we can play with Americans on iccup just fine...
Its going to be a lonely ladder, see you all in our server's proleague
|
What kind of authentication is there for this? I mean will Starcraft 2 have region specific product keys binding us to a realm?
I don't think it can have anything to do with our Battle.net account as there isn't any information for Blizzard to tell where we are actually from.

I think they already mentioned in another thread that SC2 is not peer-to-peer but client-server. I'm pretty positive this is the reason for segregation.
|
I'm generally happy to play on the North American servers for SC2, but if this means they're also planning to extend a data center for WoW I'd be way more ecstatic.
Not a fan of segregation for SC2, however. Guess we'll wait and see how it plays out
