Good to hear your rehab is going well Focault, its good that you can start doing some weights. I guess I am about to go through the same thing - how did you deal mentally with having to start with little weights again? I am really dreading it

Well I may be wrong but I think pita's are made with white flour and so , not the healthiest choice of "breads". Still , its better than a hamburger, just try to pick the brown ones if there are.

You are? I haven't read up much lately on this thread.

Yeah it's a bitch to lift small weights but I noticed that as long as I keep my diet strict I don't really mind. The worst for me is if I would loose form and become fat you know, but while my training atm is lighter than usual I'm at the same time becoming more ripped than ever because I have a good diet.

But every workout I have to fight against myself in order to only to 90 pound bench presses instead of 160 pounds or something. 40/70 kg. But I do understand that it's not a joke because unless you want to make the back pain a constant one, you better do rehab.

Basically I need some sort of competition and normally it's lifting more weight. So now I figured the competition will be diet instead and keeping it strict, which kind of works for me in a way. If you've been anorectic, don't take my advice =)

Also, you can actually do some pretty intense workouts while in back rehab; HIIT on cross-trainer, stairmaster etc.

Yeah pitas would probably be quite unhealthy tbh, but they're good :D

Oh and a hamburger can be very healthy depending on what bread you use and toppings. Let's say you go with some darker bread without glucose syrup, sugar etc in it and have some good quality meat with tomato and onions.

On another note, my back rehab is going quite well. Deadlifts and squats (low weights) has really helped me and I hope my back is well soon so I can start training hardcore again!

Eshlow, what do you think of supplementing with single amino acids and are there any ones that are "better" than others?

If you're going to supplement protein just get whey. Whey has a large portion of BCAAs and leucine.

If anything it's been shown that BCAAs are the ones you need.. specifically leucine for the anabolic respose. But whey provides a lot of protein + BCAAS leucine. Just look at the labels and you'll see.

Alright, back from the physio with my back adjusted. I have clearance to lift weights again! I need to do some relaxation exercises to stop my back and shoulders from tensing up, but no major problems at all! YAY!

His diet advice to me:
+ Show Spoiler +
As far as amino acid pills, I don't recommend them. If you eat a diverse diet with a variety of protein sources (eggs, meat, fish, soy, etc.) then you shouldn't need supplements. For continuous (no build/cut/taper phases) maximum return on training you need to stick as close to a ratio of 9 grams carbohydrates to 7 grams of protein to 3-5 grams of fat (nuts, olive oil and fish oil are best) as possible. To be on the safe side, ask your doctor about whether or not amino acid pills are appropriate for you.

What do you think of that?

btw... i just got back from one of those outdoor adventure trips. 3 days in nagano filled with whitewater rafting, canyoning, mountain climbing, caving, and mountain biking. it was really really fun.

EDIT: random (scientific) fitness fact time!

About the whole low carb diet stuff... Low carb diets promote weight loss best during the first 6 months of dieting but high carb diets are best for long term weight control. A study of nearly 5000 healthy adults from Canada, led by Anwar Merchant from University of Southern California, showed that people who ate more carbs were less likely to be obese over overweight. (journal of american dietetic association)

Investigators from Furman University found that crunches activate your abs and obliques 20% more than planks. (medicine science sports exercise)

The University of Colorado Denver School of Medicine has found that exercise does not increase 24-hour fat use. (exercise science sports reviews)

Baking Soda Increases sprint performance in events lasting less than 2 minutes. Polish researchers led by Adam Zajak found that sodium bicarbonte (17g mixed in water) improved swim speeds in teenage swimmers (like me!) improved the swim speed in teenage swimmers during the first 50m sprint of an interval training workout (4x50m sprint) and decreased the overall time of the workout by 2 seconds. Don't try this in a competition before trying it during practice because 50% of athletes have unpleasant gastrointestinal side effects (journal of sports science and medicine)

thats a heckuvalotta training just to be able to do the 90 degree pushup. what is the use of being able to do it?

werent you into break dancing? You tell me.

Man I still binge a lot, it's so fun :3

wtf are my posts getting deleted? i swear i posted on this last night.

I had my first swim meet of the season yesterday. i did terrible but thats to be expected as it's the first week of the season, its a 50m pool (im used to 25m pools), and i didn't swim any of my normal events. what kind of a coach would hold swim team tryouts monday and tuesday, have a hard workout wednesday-friday, and send sends their swimmers to some US naval base for a swim meet? i know that i shouldn't expect myself to swim well so early in the season but swimming slowly sucks.

xjacky-how much do you weight now?
